$899 Swann 8Ch w/ 4 1080P IP Camera back @ costco
zikronix replied to hotneutron's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Joey, Swann says that there are hardware differences, and therefore the old (mine) cannot record at 3 MP via firmware upgrade. [Edit] - He also stated that the 3 MP is at 15 fps. Jim Just got the "revised" version in. Board and processor is identical. Ill check the cameras, and firmware later tonight. Pretty sure its just a firmware deal. -

Costco $899 Swann or $1299 Qsee 1080p system
zikronix replied to 2020's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You might have had a bad dome, I assure you it will work with other nvr. Of course swann doesn't support it and they shouldn't have to. Their blurb of may not work with out the nvr is their out clause. They can't be responsible if your connecting the camera you your own Poe and some random Network address scheme using some third party software. And hikvision won't support you either because its a swann branded camera -
Select the best NVR for my network cameras
zikronix replied to ab2reza1360's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
1- what's the best solution for this network? Put failsafe loops in the network 2-what type of switches do I use? Gig-E Enterasys POE, Cisco POE, Juniper Networks. Please don't use garbage...use enterprise class equipment! Netgear is NOT net gear if you get what Im saying. 5-for a back up sys what kind of equipments I have to buy? Depends on your methodology, you could go tape or disk. Youll wanted a supported back up solution. A lot of people don't back up nvr data. We just do a raid 10 on our NVR Servers at work 6-any idea/advice/rec? Research! and then when your ready to make a decision. Research some more. -

Warning on Firmware Updates - Hikvision/Derytech
zikronix replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I found the firware on the Hikvision Europe site. Does anybody have fool proved step by step firmware upgrade instructions? Heres the problem...Hikvison had a firmware problem, with some earlier firmwares, erasing the admin account. It happened to me on a swann nvr, flashing from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 but beyond that it has worked fine. (which is just a hikvision) and it happened to joey joey. I suspect that is exactly what happened to buellwinkle. With that being said I down graded my cameras to the new derytech firmware 13618 and upgraded to the hikvision 13805. I also took one of my new derytech 13719 and upgraded to 13805. If you have a really early firmware on your derytech camera, it could be more risky going directly to hikvision 13805, additionally it could also be risky going to a later derytech firmware from an early one for the same reasons. If the admin account disappears you could always try the tftp method or do the one time pass reset via hikvision. insttuctions are above -

Blue Iris vs Exacq Vision - questions
zikronix replied to dapopa9's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm one of those people that are using one of the swann / hikvision systems. Sure it's not the best product. But as an IT guy who deals with enterprise products and security systems at work that run on windows, I really wanted a system that just worked and the warranty support and backing of Costco. I waffle on this every day. Lol -

Costco $899 Swann or $1299 Qsee 1080p system
zikronix replied to 2020's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If I had a nickle for every time I heard that one.... Yea that's what I said to when I bought the swann 8 port....now I have 15 cameras.... Just buy the swann. Their support is great, Costco is great, the video files don't require any special player, firmware is readily available, its easy to use, and the oem is hikvision so you can actually use their apps as well! -
Costco $899 Swann or $1299 Qsee 1080p system
zikronix replied to 2020's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Swann does not work without a NVR. You cant just buy a PoE and connect the Swann seperately. I've tried and failed to conclude that it doesn't work at all. This is 100% incorrect. You can take any of the swann poe cameras with their stock firmware and connect them to a POE switch. Install the swann PC nvr or the Hikvision nvr software and see them perfectly fine. They work with many many pieces of software and third party NVR....TRUST ME They can also be flashed with the stock hikvision firmware, and connected back to the swann nvr to enable even more features....hell you can even take the swann nvr and the lorex nvr and flash them with hikvision firmware (not recommended due to potential weird issues but it can be done) Im not even going to bother with proving this either because there are many on this board that will vouch for this! With that being said, id go with the swann, your getting a better product, better support, and in my opinion better cameras -
Warning on Firmware Updates - Hikvision/Derytech
zikronix replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I don't have that info but I can confirm on swann nvr the first two firmware they released had this problem and Joey Joey had this problem when he flashed his Lorex with official hikvision firmware. When the admin account thing happens on the nvr it has to have the admin account recreated and how many ports were available. The latest hikvision software for their nvr don't exhibit the problem -
