vst_man, Image hosting off the forum is not available until next year. It's one of the many improvements coming.
-
The new forum will have a FAQ section. I just don't know if it should be just one big FAQ or a FAQ for each forum.

Man, let me know where you got that stuff you tokin (insert smokin smilie here; man I gotta add more smilies) Seriously though. You must know something about forums I don't. Would I like to pull into a Mercedes dealership and pay the salesman $5 to drive me to the Ferrari dealership; based off the profits from this place - you better believe I would. You think I am an idiot or something? I want to win the powerball too but I doubt that happens. As you mentioned in your post, there are people here who make far more than I do off this place. So far I have made $50 bucks off one banner; I don't even want to mention what I have spent for fear my wife will see it.

ClosedCircuitCom, Yes chat or irc is on the list of additions planned for next year. Hang in there, it's on the way.

Nothing up that I know of; just a natural occurrence of most forums. People get busy and somethings gotta give. Personally, I think everyone here who participates on this forum is a major contributor. Tomorrow (November 1st) marks the second year anniversary of CCTV Forum. By the third year there will be a ton of improvements.

We, admin and mods, are going to have to all be in agreement as to what is allowed and what is not. If you look at VST_Mans post above he has phone numbers listed there too. We need to be consistant, to be fair to all members, and keep this forum focused on helping people with their questions. I do not want to trash this thread by discussing it here so I'll create a moderators forum so we can do it there.

The forum is staying public.

Access Control integration with PeopleSoft
larry replied to griffonsystems's topic in General Access Control Discussion
Sorry, I can not comment on that system. I have only worked with Andovers Continuum -
I come in peace folks. Email addresses are private whether you register or not. No one can see your email address. Registered members can send other registered members email via the message board BUT your email address is never displayed to the sender. I will find a MOD that will restrict the viewing of the memberlist and it's related information from guests. I stated two reasons, be they assumptions or not, why I wanted to keep the forum public. I stand by those reasons. If this forum ever reaches the point where there are 200 members on at one time; then I might consider making it private. The only difference between a lurker and a registered user is a user name and I can see IP addresses of guests too. I am not trying to play dictator here. You can tell by the way this forum is run - loose moderation, minimal advertising - that I meant this place to be informational in nature. Making it private would be contrary to that goal.
-
I am very hesitant to do this. I thought about doing this when the forum was started but I decided not to for two reasons. Search engines will not sign up so the forum will never be indexed Advertisers will be reluntant to advertise on a private forum. It's all about visibility to them. If the forum went private, then there would have to be some kind of monthly charge to sign up. That's too much of a headache for me. Also, private forums do not grow at the same rate as public forums. Some people just like to browse. I can do something like restricting searching to registered members or something along those lines. Regarding email, I switched off the public viewing of emails a while ago. Let me know if you can still see them. Lastly, I am going to make this forum a priority next year - I mean it this time. I keep saying I am going to make changes here but I let other work, the stuff that pays the bills, take all of my time. Members have made some very good suggestions, like RSS (news feeds) and other methods of promoting this place, I just have to prioritize them try to slowly implement them. I want to thank everyone who contributes here. I think everyone would agree that this forum is the best source for CCTV information on the net.

Access Control integration with PeopleSoft
larry replied to griffonsystems's topic in General Access Control Discussion
Yes that would be a custom app between the two systems databases. Depending on the access control system's database and network used, it would be very simple to implement. -
Rory, That statement was unnecessary. There has been a consistant tone to your messages lately that I find troubling. If you do not like the environment you live in, or the people you live around, leave. Now, I know that may not be as easy as it sounds - I really have no clue - but if you are as unhappy as you sound; leaving would be a good solution. Yes there was an evacuation order but some people just did not have the means to leave. People of all races and income levels chose to stay put. Also, it was not the hurricane that did the most damage, it was the levies breaking that doomed the city. Yes I to found some of the events troubling, rapes etc. and the media ofcourse focuses their attention, and cameras, on these incidents but this was a natural disaster of unpresidented proportions and nobody was prepared/trained for this type of situation. It just shows that the line between civility and lawlessness is very fine. This is a tragedy. I am sending my donation to the relief efforts. It is not the time for placing blame.

DaveAve, I understand your frustration about the Dealers Forum aka "Good Ole Boy's Club" being closed. Forums are generally formed to share information and you think dirty deals are being done in that section. Well, as an end user myself, I can tell you that nothing is discuss in there that is not also discussed in the open forums; with the exception of dealer prices. The price that a distributor/manufacturer gives a dealer should not be public knowledge for many reasons. The most beneficial pieces of information on this site are in the open forums; the dealer forum is actually pretty dead. To be honest I rarely go there myself, the other forums are just more interesting. As Herminshs mentioned in another thread, I am an end user who was looking for a system to install and I could not find a site that I could go to just to ask questions. So I hired a designer and put this site up. I appreciate the professionals who take time out of their busy day to answer questions that are asked here. I got lucky and stumbled upon Geovision which has it's issues, but isn't bust either. I would have liked to have heard other options though. I hope you atleast find value in the forums that you have access to.

I'll see what I can do. I hate messing with php code because it looks like spaghetti but this may not be too bad. -
Help needed: Geovision picture not clear

DVR I just sent you a PM -
It's only Thursday but it looks like there would be interest in an Access Control forum. What could some of the main topics be within that forum?
-
That will work, I'll have to brush up on my PHP coding though.
-
I'll consider that once this forum is moved off of shared hosting. Pictures kill your bandwidth allowance much quicker than text.

Yes Happy Holidays to everyone. Thanks to ALL for making this forum a success

Yeah that was part of the upgrade I was doing here about a week ago. I think I upgraded in time but some people delayed and lost their sites. I still make daily backups of the data just in case though.
-
I think it was from hackers (scripts) trying to take avantage of an exploit with phpbb forums that has been wrecking many forums that were not upgraded. Although I think I upgraded in time, I have been making my own daily backup of this forum just in case it gets hacked.

Working on forum so you may notice problems.
larry replied to larry's topic in Questions about this site
I just noticed that too. It must have been apart of the forum MOD -
Hello everyone, I am working on forum code and you might notice a few errors. Although its a simple forum modification ( all I have to do is follow the instructions), I think I did something wrong. I have already noticed the forum moderators list has disappeared. I should have it all back together soon. Thanks
