  1. I just got a Vivotek IP7330 working with this NVR, really surprised how simple it was to install, select Vivotek and just made sure that the http port was correct. Not bad for using an old camera.
  2. I got a two pack from the Costco Lorex that they offered a few months ago. The ones I received are the same as the ones on the right. I found the domes to be pretty good in mounting situations where you don't need that third axis of movement. Where you just either have it on a ceiling or where you have it on a wall pointing directly down. Any other position, mounting becomes a pain. Even with a 3 axis, like the Swann vari-focal, its takes time.
  3. That black hood didn't fit very well if I had the lens pointed to the extreme edges of its movement range. I might try the bullet version.
  4. Can that camera run for 24 hours a day, in all weather conditions, below freezing, hot sun. A lot of what you pay for in electronics is not the cost of the hardware itself, its the cost of the software, the firmware. That takes the most time.
  5. It is clean, but the sponge doesn't go all the way to the plastic housing, leaving a gap.
  6. The dome is pretty bad really, sending it back, although I do love the local uSD storage. The IR reflecting back at night on the dome interior makes is pretty bad.
  7. Thanks I have Hikvision version V2.3.3 build 130620 on the Lorex right now. I have tried Hikvision version V2.3.3 build 130604 also. Also Hikvision version V2.2.4 build 130328, which looked very much like the original Lorex firmware. I have been looking at different versions, to see what broke what and when the network settings broke for the auto setup of cameras. It works in v2.2.4, not after that.

You can also mirror to a network NFS/iSCSI drive.

Maybe it's just from my experience, but I've had a few Greens and have had them slow down or completely die on me. That's why I stick to Black. I haven't tried the Red yet so I might give that a try. Again, I just prefer Black drives. I'll give this Green another go though since it's already in there. No problem. What you could do in your case as you're getting a new drive, is the put your new Black drive as the primary and have the green one as a secondary. Then go into the settings and set drive mirroring up, so if you have a failure of the primary the data still will accessable from the secondary drive.
  10. I know why it does it, but the camera should communicate to the NVR and say 'just switched over, delay motion detection for a few seconds' I have used a Vivotek camera that doesn't trigger a motion detection internally when switching over.

What is wrong with the WD Green drive? I have read where they might be exactly the same as the Red drives, with different firmware. The NVR is not taxing the HD at all.
  12. I have have found with the Hikvision cameras that when using motion detection in the NVR, when it switches from day to night, colour to b&w, it triggers a motion event. Kinda silly.
  13. If you go into the local UI, you can see the network utilisation when you have all cameras connected. You can see that in the iVMS application too. It will tell you how much you're using and how much you have to spare. Set your camera to Constant not variable. I use 3000 at full resolution. If you have 40Mbps available and you have 8 cameras. 40 Mbps / 8 = 5Mbps per camera. Give a small buffer, set them to 4.5Mbps each, see how that goes. Use whatever fps rate you want to.
  14. I have a Swann vari-focal dome that I got working on a Lorex LNR280 NVR. I did not change the Swann firmware. I have flashed the Hikvision firmware on the NVR. I didn't use the camera in plug and play, I set it up manually, works fine. In the newest two versions of the Hikvision NVR firmware, plug and play isn't working very well, if at all. Things changed in their network settings. I have used the base firmware, which is the equivalent to the Lorex version fine.
  15. Who knows, Qsee did exactly the same thing. Who uses VGA these days, I don't know, can't be many. I can see a lot of the reviews mention that the hdmi not working, for both the Qsee and Lorex. You'd think their (Lorex) tech support would know this too, if you can ever get to speak to them. I never have.
  16. Lorex LNR282C4B (LNR280) This is the system that I have. On their website: http://www.lorextechnology.com/Security+camera+system+Wireless+camera+system/Security+NVR+with+IP+cameras/prod360017.p?skuId=LNR282C4B I'm having a little trouble configuring motion detection correctly, as it can be configured in many locations on different applications/websites. Some settings overwrite some settings, but not all, some don't match up and some only exist in one location. When I edit the camera's sensitivity on the NVR-webpage and look at the camera-webpage, it changes sometimes on the camera, in different increments. So I know that when I change it on the NVR it does get sent to the camera. I know when I enable or disable motion detection, that setting does get sent to the camera. I know the grids to outline motion detection areas is NOT downloaded to the camera. Is this a bug, I think it is, IF the motion detection takes place in the camera. I would like to know if when motion detection is enabled, is that being detected in the NVR or in the camera? The time settings in each camera, it looks to me like there is a message from the NVR to each camera, a manual time setting and the cameras are not configured to use the NTP server. The NTP server and DST offset can be setup in each camera though. What is the NVR Device No. setting used for? It is set to 255. The NVR has three video quality stream settings, Main Stream (continuous), Sub stream, Main Stream (Motion), where as the camera only has two, a main and a sub. I don't like how when using the mobile app, that its possible to change the main stream (s?) configuration. If anyone has info or experience with this system please let me know, if I'm going wrong somwhere, thanks.
  17. http://www.lorextechnology.com/downloads/security-nvr/LNR200-Series/LNR200_SERIES_MANUAL_EN_R2_web.pdf See page 61. See the resolution option where in the manual is appears to be 1024x768. Change that to 1920x1080, if that is the max your tv supports, this is the standard HD resolution for TVs.
  18. A QNAP NAS with NFS enabled. This article might help you here: http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1729 Try using a software NFS drive on windows.
  19. It must be, I'm going to try a few more times. The IR ring glow on this camera is pretty bad.
  20. Having a hard time getting the swann camera into focus when almost zoomed in fully, focusing over a hundred feet out. Have to back the zoom out, even with that, I can't get it sharp. If it's less than 50 ft, focusing no problem.
  21. The sadp can also be used to alter the IP address of the camera device, so that you don't have to change your PC's IP address.
  22. What kind of pictures do you want? I tested it tonight, works just like all the other Hikvision cameras. I used a 4GB uSD card in the camera as internal storage. This is the largest size I have available right now. I successfully setup local motion control on the camera, stored the motion videos to the uSD card. Motion control was also setup on the Lorex LNR280, independent motion detection control. Even though it came with version 5.0 firmware, the max resolution is 1080p, maybe that's the max. I like this for data redundancy. Any questions, let me know.
  23. What you can do is spray the surrounding area with cedar oil, making sure that you cover the camera before spraying. Spray a few square foot around where it's mounted. We use this around our doorways and on our dogs too repel spiders and insects.
  24. yeah, hardly any tvs have a vga port, and I'm sure 90%+ have hdmi ports these days. That is why they don't enable it... makes too much sense.
  25. David, you need to hook up a vga cable and then use the local menus to change the resolution to the 1080p resolution to make the hdmi port work. Silly I know.
