Yes you can. -
Decent IP Cameras Under $250 each?
JoeyJoey replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Nope. haha, ok. What if there are yard signs, window stickers, a siren on the side of the house, alarm keypads armed visible from the windows ? Less likely? And all the other 9 houses have gold chains dripping from the ceilings, visible through the windows? -

A city police officer told me this after getting burgled. He said get an alarm system or a dog to warn off burglars. I have both, with dual communication paths, dual dogs and cameras. Ok, if there are 10 houses, and only one has an ADT sign. Do you not think it would less likely to be targeted at random? -

If a criminal has a choice between two exact houses in a sub division, one with an ADT sign and one without. Won't they pick the none alarmed one? Unless there is something specific they're after. -

One good camera that always works is better than half dozen ok cameras. Get an alarm system and put the yard sign up, stickers on the windows. -

Ahh, well then this thread accomplished nothing then. Here you go. For a bullet camera, this is good. http://www.hikvision.com/en/products_show.asp?id=7326 For a dome, this is good. http://www.hikvision.com/en/Products_show.asp?id=7330 Firmware updates are available, stable. Replaceable batteries. I've had $800 Toshiba Cameras with buggy network firmware and batteries soldered to the circuit board. These cameras are head and tails above those. -

Lorex NVR anybody try other cameras on it?
JoeyJoey replied to evnldr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Is this one of the cameras that you got directly from China? If so, where did you send it back to get fixed? -

Did you specify a different lens size? I was concerned about that plus, getting the camera that supports POE as there are two versions, one does, one does not. -

Decision, decision, decision... Lorex with 6 bullets for $1349 (directly from them) or Swann with 4 bullets for $1199 (Costco). If you plan on having 6 or more cameras, the Lorex is a better price, considering you'll most likely be charged sales tax for Costco. The only downside I see to Lorex for me is the lack of being able to connect a cable to the NVR to debug the root password, but 99.99% of people won't care about that. Lorex tech support is iffy, but I find most support to be that way. -
Lorex NVR crappy Email motion pic (Solved) kinda
JoeyJoey replied to evnldr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The cameras are not able to be accessed from a PC if you don't connect both the LAN and the NVR-POE network. You can do this because the NVR doesn't use a regular DHCP server to give IP addressed to the cameras, they use a Hikvision protocol. There are settings in the cameras that you can change via the PC that are not directly accessible in the NVR menus. These additional settings are WDR, BLC, noise control, additional motion detection zones, record directly to a NAS (aswell as the NVR), etc. -

Decent IP Cameras Under $250 each?
JoeyJoey replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The reason is that the camera lens can only pan/tilt, it can't rotate, so if you mount it flat on a vertical wall, you can aim the lens straight out and tilt without a problem. If you try to pan the lens left/right, it will rotate the lens. For example, if you pan the lens say 20 degrees, it may tilt the image 20 degrees. With a 3-axis camera you can rotate the lens a to compensate. But if I plan, test and mount the camera, there should be no issue right? It just makes adjusting the view after the fact, very hard. -

Here is an example of my network. Connect an nvr-poe port to your router lan or another switch. Remember to DISABLE UPNP in EACH AND EVERY CAMERA. After this I found that I can have two dhcp (even though the NVR doesn't use dhcp server) range, another way you can configure it. My lan dhcp range being 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200 <- set this in your router, so the nvr LAN single IP gets this The NVR range being 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.254 <- set this in the NVR, list under POE range. So all the cameras get these IP addresses. This can be done because the NVR uses a Hikvision protocol and not dhcp to hand out ip addresses, so they don't clash. As you are only supposed to have a single dhcp server. -

That is the problem, the cameras need to be on either both the lan and nvr-poe network, or just the lan. -

buy HIKVISION NVR and cam from china ALIEXPRESS
JoeyJoey replied to tim36's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You can flash the newer firmware on to the cameras that gives it multi language support, including English. A downside/risk is if something goes wrong, or if it doesn't work out of the box, do you ship it back to China/HK, Hikvision directly? Remember that Aliexpress is not a store, it is a collection of stores, like ebay but with fixed prices. You bought yours from "China Security Monitoring Wholesaler". Curious if anyone has one of the dome with separate lens/ir units, like this one: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/DS-2CD3332-I-3MP-Hikvision-camera-w-POE-Network-IP-camera-Mini-dome-Camera-w-3D/904067_934098971.html The DS-2CD3332-I isn't really on the Hikvision site, the DS-2CD2332-I is though. I wonder how the DS-2CD3332-I operates and if the firmware is in English? -

From reading about the SmartIR, it looks like that only works on compatible cameras.
