  1. In the Hikvision manual, redundancy means it writes to both HDs. "When the HDD property is set to redundancy, the video can be recorded both onto the redundancy HDD and the R/W HDD simultaneously so as to ensure high security and reliability of video data."
  2. Hopefully they will stop using plugins and move to html5. You have other options. Install linux on the chromebook, then install VirtualBox to run windows. http://www.networkworld.com/article/2867025/opensource-subnet/3-ways-to-run-normal-linux-on-a-chromebook.html Remote desktop into a windows PC, the easiest. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-remote-desktop/gbchcmhmhahfdphkhkmpfmihenigjmpp?hl=en Run the Android app on the chromebook. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2686712/run-any-android-app-on-your-chromebook-with-this-hack.html
  3. Nope. Hikvision is obsessed with using the ActiveX plug ins.

Their android apps are rebadged Hikvision apps that don't get updated, it seems they just replace them with a different app. I have been happy with the i4500 app from Hikvision, they just released a good update the other day.

Your external ports can be different to the internal ports, as long as you perform all the correct forwarding. I feel that it slightly safer to use non-standard ports, just like you are doing. I have never had a good experience with Lorex tech support.

Correct, the DDNS will direct your connection to your home while you are connected via the internet. Your router in your home need to be able to forward the needed port to your NVR. Did you enable upnp on the NVR and in your router? This tells the router to forward ports and where to on your internal home network (LAN). You can forward manually too, but your NVR needs a static or reserved IP address on your LAN. When you're forwarding ports like this, always put very good passwords on your network devices that are exposed on the internet.

What issues are you having? Are you having connection issues on your LAN or from the internet?

    Use the Hikvision app instead.
  9. You might want to look into not forwarding any ports at all and to use an OpenVPN connection. This would make your home connection a thousand times more secure and everything will just work.
  10. I noticed that the first jump from the 2.X.X firmware to the 3.X.X requires the use of the tftp procedure. Try that.
  11. How are the cameras connected, via the single port LAN (via the switch) or via a POE capable port connected to the switch? Tried V3.0.10 Build141125 firmware?
  12. No reason why they couldn't make it a better web interface AND not require a plugin, but they didn't. The windows app is beyond awful, barely usable.
  13. If you have 16 cameras, you need to be sure to limit the bandwidth of each one, not to exceed the NVR's max total camera input bandwidth.
  14. Get rid the of the ActiveX requirement for viewing the cams/NVRs. Make the web browser work any every platform, including Linux?
  15. I've been able to change the res/fps of the sub stream, but never the main. AFAIK the app only accesses the sub streams... you are talking about SwannView Plus I assume? I was talking about the mobile phone apps, such as on Android. By selecting custom, that affects the main feed.
  16. For viewing the NVR's live feed from the cell phone app, it is important to know that you can accidentally alter the resolution/frame rate of the main feed, which will affect the recording configuration. So stop this from happening I created a user id that has no permissions to change the main recording feed configurations.
  17. Have you looked the tv's sharpness setting? There is no sharpness setting for the NVR output, but make sure that it is set to 1080p resolution.
  18. It can be recorded both ways, both to a PC's software AND to a NAS. A hikvision NVR can be configured to store the data on both its internal HD and on an external NAS, which gives you redundancy.
  19. It is also good practice to have over lapping camera views, so one camera is almost looking at another camera's area. Hikvision NVRs can detect when a camera is lost and will save the previous time period before it happened, that might catch when the person destroyed the camera.
  20. No, you can't use the NVR without it using Ethernet data from each camera. If you want to only use data when a camera is being viewed, use their PC software. Seems strange to buy the NVR.
  21. How did you configure the system, tell us your settings. Did you give each camera 1TB each on their own share? or 3TB with 3 cameras? You need to give each camera its own share with its fixed size. So when the camera configures (called format in their menus) the share it goes through and creates all the files and indexes. If you tell a camera it has 1TB, then it has 1TB, no one can borrow any of that space.
  22. You could leave them in daylight mode all the time.
  23. Did you try using the iVMS windows application to edit the camera? That sometimes works.
  24. It isn't mentioned anywhere in the NVR's firmware, so I don't see how it could ever work. Maybe their firmware will be updated one day. They added the direct camera access in the last 2.3.9 update, works great.
