  1. Thanks JoeyJoey and Q2u. That worked. I turned on the WDR. Will see if it helps with the night vision. Thanks for the help.
  2. I have one of the camera's plugged directly into my router and I powered it with a 12v power supply to the camera. I can see the camera's IP address when I search for on line devices with the swann client software. I used internet explorer and typed in the IP address but I get nothing. I know I am doing something wrong, I just don't know what.
  3. Thanks JoeyJoey. I will be buying a POE switch tomorrow and trying to adjust the settings in the camera. New to this so it will take me awhile to figure it out.
  4. Thanks for the information. I will give it a try this weekend. Are you using the PC software that came with the NVR when you access the camera directly or a different software?
  5. I have another question. If I adjust the camera's without the NVR and turn on the WDR will it continue to remain on even if I plug it back into my NVR after I have made the adjustments? Has anyone attempted this yet?
  6. So far, it appears this firmware is for all the cameras based on the Hik Raptor platform - 1.3 and 3MP. I haven't seen a 2MP version yet, but it's the same firmware footprint as the faux 3MP Swann update, so that one appears to be covered too. I'm not sure the NVR has access to all the settings of the camera. Best bet is to access the cam directly via the web page and see if it has WDR enabled. Based off of the post quoted above, I used the Lorex HD program installed on my PC (vs the NVR) to access the camera settings and didn't see any reference to the existence of WDR or the ability to change it if it exists. Anyone else find anything? Not sure if the post above from MaxIcon is referencing the Lorex software that I installed on my PC (came with the NVR system on a CD) or if his reference to accessing the cams via "the web page" is something entirely different? Thx, CS I have not been able to find a WDR setting on the NVR or the computer either. I think he may be talking about hooking the camera directly to a network port instead of the NVR and accessing the camera directly. I just don't know how to do that yet. I am still learning.
  7. If you have the WDR setting on your cams, this helps improve the night mode. I set one at 50, and it really helped the night shot a lot. Brightness and contrast can help night images or day images with lots of shadow, but are almost always a trade-off. For the infra-red, you can put tape over some of the LEDs, but how effective this is will depend on the distance and angle to the lines. Since the remaining LEDs have a good bit of spread, they may still hit the lines, but it's worth a try. This is something the next generation of cameras needs, now that WDR is becoming more common - adjustable IR, or better yet, intelligent IR, where it adjusts it automatically depending on the image. ETA: Q sent me a link to the lastest Hik firmware release, and lo and behold, it includes this: Support SMART IR (only for IR featured models) So, it's too early to say if the Hik firmware is really that much more awesome than the Dahua, but for now, Hik is seriously kicking Dahua's butt. Add that you can get the software, as well as a list of changes and bugfixes, and Dahua is, like, totally last week. I just hope I can sell mine to some sucker, ummm, n00b, errrr... adventurous but ill-informed soul! Here's the rest: 1. New Features Support three new date types: (month/day/year), (year/month/day), (day/month/year). Support DDNS for No-IP; Support anonymous login; Support UPnP; Support IP filtering (totally 48 IP addresses can be managed.) Support one way alarm I/O, audio, local output and auto Iris functions for SD card featured models; Support volume control. (DSP functionalities) Support the OSD font setting (ActiveX required); 16*16, 32*32, 64*64, self-adaption Support motion areas highlighted by frame in live view mode. (Core and relative drive) Support AK4954 audio codec drive; Support amba emac and phy hardware fluid control. (Front-end parameter and ISP) Support SMART IR (only for IR featured models); Support more AWB settings: manual WB(R, B gain adjust), AWB1, locking BW, filament lamp(3000K), warm light lamp(4000K), nature light lamp(5500K), daylight lamp(6500K). Support D/N switch timing mode (ICR start and stop timeline can be configurable); Support D/N switch alarm input triggering mode (only for alarm featured models). (Standard protocol and ActiveX) Support HTTP PUSH MJPEG encoding for sub-stream (only Firefox supported); Stream URL: http://ip/Streaming/channels/ID/httpPreview Support SDK Input in ActiveX; Support ActiveX anonymous login; Support 13 languages including Bulgarian, Hungarian, Greek, German, Italian, Czech, Slovak, French, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Dutch. 2. Improved Features (Application) Changed RTSP authentication as default setting; Changed the audio input default value as Line in; Optimized the smoothness of live view. (Front end parameter and ISP) Solved the bright spot issue. (DSP relative function) Optimized the OSD characters overlay in proportion; Modified QP parameters. I Looked at all the settings on the NVR for the camera settings and I don't see anywhere where I can activate WDR. All I can do is adjust the brightness and contrast.
  8. I have the swann system with six cameras. The picture during the day time is great but the night mode is not so good. If I try to adjust the brightness of the camera to better fit the night, the day time picture is too dark. One camera was mounted on the side of my house and part of the view is blocked by my air conditioner lines going up the side of the house. It blocks part of the infer red at night and the picture looks much better than the cameras that are not blocked. Is there a way to adjust the level of the infer red light on the cameras. All my cameras are hooked up to the NVR. I am new to this and still learning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  9. I am going to stick with the Swann system. I dont like the fact that Lorex does not support 30 FPS on all 8 channels. Plus I like the three year warranty. Swann's support has been pretty good also.
  10. I was looking at the specifications for the Swann NVR and the Lorex NVR and noticed that the Lorex will only record 4 cameras at 30fps and the rest at 15fps for a total of 180fps. The Swann NVR shows 30fps per channel for a total of 240fps. Am I looking at these numbers correctly?
  11. I would like to know if the fan in the Lorex will be quieter than the Swann unit. The Lorex NVR also shows that it can be expanded to 8TB where the Swann says 6TB max hard drive capacity.
  12. I am new to this forum and new to security systems. I just purchased the Swann 1080P NVR system from Costco. I just received a sales flyer from Costco that show a new Lorex 8-channel NVR with 4-1080P cameras for $849.99 that looks just like the Swann NVR and 1080P camera system. The Lorex system is not listed yet on Costco's web site but it goes on sale starting May 1st. I checked Lorex's web site and they do not show any information about it. Has anyone else seen this ad yet? Is this the same product just labeled under Lorex now? Is one company better than the other? I purchased the Swann NVR system from Costco for my residence. I have only had it for about a month so I can return it if one system is better than the other. I am too new to all this to know if there is a difference or not between these two companies. Thanks for any information anyone has.
