Giving credit where credit is due, I've seem a few prices before, but they were very vague, but if that's how the company wants to run, so be it

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=36323 look where that thread ended.... I and a few other users are quite happy with Milestone as a software solution that allows more or less any onvif or above camera to connect... our friend suggested Avig... when the OP started asking for pricing.... tumble weed!

I find it really funny that we have some Avig installers on the forum, yet anytime anyone asks about pricing they clam up faster than a rat up a drainpipe
  5. From what I've found, you're probably correct others who have more experience with Milestone might have a way, but we just load up a separate client if we need both at once(which you cannot do in the free version since it only allows a single client, so if you wanted to do that and there is no way (probably is, Milestone is pretty comprehensive) then you'd need to use a mobile client.) Milestone does allow per channel playback while viewing other channels live, if you hover the cursor over the bottom of the camera view in the smart client, there will be a selection marked "Independent Playback". Also, the version of Milestone software that is the usual fit for home / small business owners would be "Essential", not "Express". Essential allows for up to 26 cameras, 5 concurrent connections. It is (MSRP) $99 for the base license (two channels), and $49 per channel after that. Mobile and Web client is included. Support agreement (not required, optional, allows for version updates, and upgrades) is approximately 18% of the license cost, per year. Sure it is, unless you want to run a NAS, at which point you want "Express" or unless you don't want more than 5 days or more than a single user, at which point "Go" will do fine
  6. We've just bought a RS3412sx, not going to use the iscsi interface, as it will just be archive footage and the excess of network files we have ironically I think our Servers 10k 146gb's are getting flooded with the camera's we have at the moment so that box will probably get upgraded so it can offload to the NAS faster, still when the new NAS goes in we'll see if the offload speeds improve
  7. I cannot help you with the motion over ONVIF (I assume you mean inbuilt motion events) I can say however that Milestone detects motion on the incoming footage, so it does not rely on the motion triggers from the camera itself, Milestone instead looks for changes in the pixels of the incoming footage, It could be that the NVR's all run the same way?
  8. we don't pay for SA (the support assurance) It's optional and honestly, while it's nice to think that you can upgrade to a later version when released, the version releases are that slow and there seems to be very little by way of new features with the new versions so I'm happy to just re-buy the whole package should something amazing come out or, stay with what we have (it's working fine now, chances are it's going to be working fine in 10 years) Fwiw, Milestone Package the Mobile Server (for mobile devices) separate to the software, and as such new version of it you can upgrade for free, also the device packs which upgrade Milestones capabilities to talk to camera's is also free, so really your only paying SA to either be able to: 1, Upgrade between versions of the software, so from Express to Professional 2, be able to patch, so in the case of Express, to go from 1.0b to 1.1 (we have sites on both, and I'm not really noticing any difference, these programs are very polished before they release anything) I generally don't call them for support, I've been sending any basic query's through the company I bought the software from (techcctv) and anything complex I just email them, we've yet to get charged for this come to think about it, if you don't want to use a NAS you can download the Milestone Xprotect GO version which is free, it has the limitations of not being able to support more than 8 camera's, will not talk to NAS systems, only keeps footage for 5 days, cannot do alarms & is limited to a single user.... but free is free Way more complicated. With Avigilon you have three options Core, Standard Enterprise plus you can add the Gateway license for mobile support. Software upgrades are free and so is the 24/7 phone support. and what is the pricing, both base and with each camera? what else is charged for? I've honestly found I've required very little support

  10. No Problem, happy to help Just then to make sure it works, I loaded up one local client (Smart Client), went into archive view, selected one of our views with 5 camera's on it, then told it to start playing backwards. I then loaded up a second Smart Client and clicked on the same view as per live and it's running perfectly, in theory if I was running a pair of screens I could have live on one and archive on the other. I can upload a screenshot if you like?
  11. Can you review a camera in both real-time and recorded view at the same time? Best, Christopher yes, on mobile devices when you go into the archive view (I call it that anyway) it keeps a little window open above the recorded view which shows the live view, on your locally connected desktop/monitoring station you can either open a second client (which is the same as logging in a second user) and do whatever you want independently on each client.

  13. Good to hear buddy! I'm not suggesting that you would intend for the customer to use a repair for any great length of time, I just know from past experience what customers are like when it comes to getting something that's "repaired to work working" to something that's "as per origional installation and working" "She'll be right for a few more days/weeks/months"
  14. he'll need hardware & storage for the Mobotix, his question says "for software not including hardware? seems like a fair comparison for those on a tight budget? on the side of servers we just use spare hardware, we presently have 17 camera's on an old $500 HP DL380 G5, really old dual quad core jobbie! decommissioned from the other crap it was doing, storage we just throw cheap $220 4tb drives into NAS boxes and point milestone at it for archiving...
  15. if you say so... Milestone Express Base licence no SA is $170, it comes with a pair of camera licences, so for your 4 to 8 camera system your talking $510 to $850, this is well UNDER $1k... Expand that out to a 20 camera system, we buy our camera's at $210 each, software we're under $2k... how much do 20 x Mobotix set you back?
  16. yeah especially if your indoors, when it comes to repair there it comes down to (for me) how much effort I want to go to with the repair, I have plenty of the keystones (as you say) that I just use with the RJ45's, which is quite a cheap and easy solution, I generally just use a cable tie which goes around the keystone and the cable so any "yank" on the cable actually seats the individual strands of the cable into the keystone further, you could even cable tie the cable from the RJ45 male into the same tie as the keystone.
  17. we've been told that the mobile client on Milestone is second to none... confirm/deny?
  18. the right is a dodgy arse(I don't personally like them, I prefer to use a RJ45 female and then a RJ45 male, faster/easier/less connections) female to female adapter, so I suspect what he's suggesting is that he throws a RJ45 on each side of the damaged cable and uses the adapter, I believe the adapter and cables are routed so that the Join is located in the Junction which, with the right bushing, is sealed against the elements (I would take things further and use a dessicant packet in there as well if it's like to be there a while)
  19. I'm glad I'm not one of you Professionals, having to work on analog systems would send me over the edge! Ethernet cable is nice... so many ways to cheat... the IQ tells me where the break is! but most of the time I just run more cables than I need to any location so I just bypass that cable
  20. I love the Milestone, we've got 4 installs of it running around my work... I've not tried the other two, but this stuff did exactly what we want from the start so I've not had a reason to look around.
  21. I must admit I have a Fluke IQ and it's awesome
  22. we're using some of their board camera's whipped up into housings and it's working really well, running 11 of them now (the 3mp version) image: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/Zoomout_zpsdb4e630a.png
  23. We've been using this: http://www.securitycamera2000.com/products/POE-Full-HD-1080P-IP-Camera-3-Mega-IR-40m-Waterproof-2.8mm%252d12mm.html works with Milestone, quality seems good, we've been getting the PoE version with Express freight for $210 each when buying in bulk (10x) http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/IPQ2322_zps5e84ef81.png

    White Out

I agree we found spraying pest spray all over the camera seemed to help the spider situation... but yes, external IR helps immensely
