  1. I understand where you're comming from, it's one of those cases where the Best is several grand, something that will likely work is going to be near a grand, and someone comes in saying I want something for $5.. by the same token tech prices are dropping at a great rate, give it 5-10 years ago and you could not even get a reasonably stable megapixel camera for sub $1k these days there are plenty of options which work well enough for under $200 so I find it's interesting to see what is on offer in threads like these
  2. yeah, I've heard of that feature, but yet to see it actually working anywhere for any reasonable price, anyone lot a PTZ Motion detect running that they are happy with? considering a reasonable PTZ seems to start at $1k and you can get a 3mp camera for $200 it seems better value to get a collection of 3mp camera's...
  3. A warning on the PoE side of things, some camera's list as being PoE powered but require propriety 60w PoE injectors... (Axis?) the only time its worth having PTZ is if your going to be sitting in the store actually moving it around all day, are you really planning on doing this?
  4. looking from the Camera that can see both strips(picture link ending with B4F) actually glowing, the 940nm is on the left, the 840nm on the right
  5. well, the Camera's don't really seem to even notice the LED's... this is the camera pretty much directly above them, keep in mind it's probably getting washed out a a bit by the light coming out the doorway, things might improve over the weekend (it's not looking good though) http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/OnClose_zpse1b46cd4.png and this is showing that they are actually on, the two strips are the ones at the top left of the screen. http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/OnOpposite_zpsbc12eb4f.png not sure what to make of it, they are just not that bright
  6. hahaha I know. fixed the camera now, should get reasonable pictures tonight, all else fails I'll post up what the other camera's see.
  7. You're going to laugh... the Elec connecting the LED's hooked them into the same circuit that the PoE switch runs of which powers the camera's in that area, and when he did so he smashed the switch (all the camera's hooked off it are now down) So, from camera's further away the LED's produce a good amount of light, they probably need to be mounted higher than chest high though for a better spread will let you know when I get this switch fixed and the camera that's viewing this area back up (seriously WTF)
  8. They are in! they are turned on, tonight we see how they actually perform
  9. attached to the pine: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-10-01113856_zps59c4f2cb.jpg the profile: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-10-01113835_zps19d45d6c.jpg pretty much just stuck it on: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-10-01113818_zps0bc2b4e0.jpg on the wall: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-10-03114723_zps990d3df4.jpg Side by side, now just waiting on the elec to finish giving me some outlets and extending the wires etc: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-10-03114718_zps7715dbc3.jpg
  10. that is such a ****ty camera, hope your not trying to cover a large area or expecting any great clarity.
  11. The strips are now on the pine, just a case of the Elec's actually mounting them on the side of a building now
  12. that depends on how your getting the streams, we have 18x 3mp streams at max quality settings and we're only using 28% download of a gigabit connection, for sure you can bond other links, I can't see network being that much of an issue really... General recommendations for Visualization include storing your VHD's on a separate HDD to the Host system, having a separate network card for the Guest OS's... but you can't really go wrong.
  13. latest is, I have a pair of 5 meter strips of timber that I've had a 45 degree bevel put in, now I'm getting them painted the same colour as the buildings they will be attached to (so they don't look like arse) and then we see how we go, still needs the last coat of paint so the 3m sticky backing on the LED's will hold (not sure how long for, but I'll give it it's best shot at holding.
  14. we have Virtualized both our Milestone Pro installs... I think that Microsoft Hyper V is superior to VM Ware which is why I chose it, not sure why network would be much of an issue, and my experiance with Hyper V, as long as it's a clean install the software does not notice any issues.. on the topic of shared resources, Milestone that we use does not really leave any spare resources so sharing was not really an issue, but I agree that sharing it with anything that's also intensive would not really be a crash hot idea (seeing as VMS smash pretty much every part of the system) the reason we Virtualized our security installs honestly, was for ease of moving between hardware, I'm well sick of re-installing due to a hardware upgrade.
  15. it's proving to be a mission to get everyone organised, will advise when I make progress.
  16. ETA on throwing them on a wall is Monday Tuesday (Monday ish your time)
  17. Initial impressions.... These things get hot FAST! wonder how long they will last we got the IP65 versions so they are sealed in a Gel/Rubber compound
  18. Finally arrived, will see if I can get them mounted up over the next few days http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080607_zpsb84a0546.jpg http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080623_zps5f040a58.jpg http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080626_zps1cc6c1ae.jpg http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080611_zps272a503c.jpg http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080602_zps6d914026.jpg http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/2013-09-18080640_zpsce2fefca.jpg
  19. They are available as downlights with 90 & 120 degree option. and this is the direction I'd head, we have purchased some 940nm LED strips to play with, can't wait for them to arrive
  20. MR2

    Warehouse system design

Move to IP, run PoE switch's on the warehouse pillars and just run cables out as required. we have quite a few warehouses of around half that size and we just run fiber to each cabinet (mounted on the pillars or whatever) the fiber breaks out into a managed PoE switch and off you go.
  21. No Light strips yet will email for an ETA
  22. Will know Monday, I've been out of state for a week.
  23. it will be interesting as we have yards with camera's on both sides, so it will be quite hard to avoid a camera somewhere getting blinded, guess we'll see though, maybe they can just be pointed almost entirely straight down... I see these strips as being perfect for around residential area's though, just have one aimed down to illuminate down the side of a house for example... the pricing is a bit out there, will have to do some research on the quality of the surface mount LED's and brightness as well as lifespan, everyone seems to be using the SM5050's, there are plenty of other options including doing a double row, or increasing the density, Buellwinkle is also on the right path looking at strips with a tighter distribution angle (allow you to mount the strip further away.
  24. oh the Bugs LOVE the IR, or atleast the 850nm stuff they do, will see how it looks with the 940... keep in mind bugs eye's are far more sensitive to a wider range of light than ours are, so chances are they get attracted to it like any other light. my theory on IR is just keep the IR a few meters away from the camera (atleast) and that way even if the IR gets coated in bugs it won't do too much to lower your image quality, unlike our current cam's that are near blind in the middle of the night due to the amount of webs!
  25. Mostly thinking of just angling them at a fairly downward angle (so 45 degree angle or lower) and then adjusting mounting height, the camera's we have are not particularly crash hot at night as their built in IR is somewhat like a spotlight.
