IR Light Strip for IP Nightvision?

I'll ask work if they can buy a reel for me to play with the power supply and triggering system will be a pain over the PoE though -
IR Light Strip for IP Nightvision?
MR2 replied to jdoggg1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
http://www.ledlightinghut.com/940nm-smd5050-flexible-led-strip.html 940nm... you won't even know it's on. http://www.lightingnext.com/940nm-infrared-led-strip-light.html these guys even do outdoor rated, so just glue/strap it somewhere, setup a day/night timer/sensor and job done, 6amp is a lot of power usage though.... wonder what it's dispertion pattern is like & what range you'd get on cheap camera's that are only 1/3 in sensor.... even cheaper: http://www.okledlights.com/smd3528-flexible-infrared-940nm-wavelengthled-strip-with-150-leds-ribbon-light-ropeykf3528in940150x_p348.html -

I'm going to bookmark this thread, I love the idea of using this... imagine if you could find some that were 940nm(not visible) not 840nm (visible) just run as many strips as you need the entire way around what you wish to cover.... beauuuutiful please post pics of how it runs! -
Need help getting a proper day-night surveillance setup
MR2 replied to cygx's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
with your current issues, can I suggest you set a DHCP reservation for the camera in your router... that SHOULD force it to stay on the IP you set... on the IR, if you can't disable it and just change over an outdoor light to IR, since it's not worth sending the camera back for a credit why not open it up and just cut the power (preferably unplug if it's an option) the power to the IR array, that way it should see through the glass without the massive reflections, no matter what camera you buy however, your going to be better off with external IR, and multiple sources if you get the opportunity. there is a reasonably comprehensive IR illumination post in the sticky of this forum. having said that I know you say you don't want HD, but HD is soooo cheap your better off with it! -
Being that your a network/comms consultant I'm surprised you'd not keen on a VMS product? (Option 4) or did you never get into the PC/Server side of the network comm's?

here are what I'd consider positives to having a Managed switch(but not all these benefits are limited to Managed switch's) 1, you can web into it to see what's actually happening (so see what ports are in use, see how much power usage, see if there are any faults) 2, you can generally power cycle a port from the web interface 3, as the Managed units are more expensive, you're getting higher quality 4, Higher warranty, HP V1910 series switch's for example come with a LIFETIME warranty, and it's advanced replacement so you go through some bugfixing with them, if it fills the criteria they just send another and you send the faulty unit back... 5, a good portion of Managed switch's (and many un-managed) are rack mount capable, so if you have a nice 19" rack cabinet in your home it will just slot straight in, beauuuutiful clean wiring. 6, plenty of Managed PoE switch's give you the ability to run Redundend power supplies, so if/when a surge takes out one of the power supplies, the switch keeps on running as if nothing happened on the second power supply 7, most of the 24+ port managed PoE switch's also have the ability to run an external booster power supply, so if the built in power supply can handle 250w of power, the external provides an additional 500w of power and you then have access to all 750w of PoE power (minus what the switch itself uses, which us generally 50-100w) Stuff you probably won't use: 1, you can bond/team multiple ports, for example in the future you have 20mp camera's, 10 of them hanging off a switch, you're finding your single gigabit port to the server (a box with several 20tb SSD's for example) is getting close to it's limit, in the case of most of the NAS units you can click a few buttons and it will team the network connections to allow both to be used at once with the traffic split between them. 2, Vlan's, this is essentially separating out ports into groups that are, theoretically separate networks, I've never really seen the point to this, if your network is running out of IP's then just setup a new IP range on the same network (so if you are near 250 devices on 192.168.0.x, then add a network on 192.168.1.x you can dual bond IP's to most devices) 3, lots of odd setups for traffic management, honestly though, if you're getting that advanced you're probably going to be better spending on 10gig rather than fiddling with Gigabit. this is no means a comprehensive list, just a quick rundown feel free to add to it.

Run a ping to the camera, if the ping drops then do a hard reset on the camera and a firmware update, if it still drops on occasion then try another switch? -

what does Lenel OnGuard do? I've not really been that impressed with Mobotix despite plenty of folks saying they are "the best" I'd go Avigilon instead as well (depending on what price you get... which i'd be curious to see) -

Hilarious I'd mount hidden camera's in the roof of all the rooms, including units in the roof looking outside, then hide the DVR and UPS somewhere, if your **** recorded nothing then someone screwed up the install, a good VMS will record logs of what happens at any time, when a UPS is installed correctly it talks to the PC, so the PC will have a log of if the power is lost and for how long at at what point it shutdown, the VMS will also log if camera's are disconnected or stop transmitting an image.. so if nothing is getting logged you need to get rid of whoever thinks they know what they are doing with your security system. -

I can get 15 fps using MxCC but going through SkyPoint (OnSSI Ocularis) they lose frames, Mobotix themselves told me it's because of the third party software. Unfortunately MxCC doesn't integrate with Lenel or support the other cameras here so that's not an option. I like the Mobotix setup but don't think they are a good fit here, I have some Avigilons that perform without question. and how does Avigilon compare to Mobotix on price though... keep in mind that most camera's will slow down as it gets darker, you can select casino mode which I'm told locks them at 30fps, but by forcing them to that frame rate what are you loosing? sounds like it'll be outside your market but we've always liked Milestone "AVIGILON makes some really lovely cameras and this is another family of them. The Avigilon HD Bullet Camera comes in 4 models, 4 resolutions (1, 2, 3, 5MP) and 2 lens options – 3-9mm and 9-22mm. The 1 and 2MP models run at 30fps, the 3MP runs at 20fps, while the 5MP runs at 13fps – that’s still pretty close to live to the human eye. Walking me through the new HD Bullet range at the SEN office is Avigilon’s Sean Borg and while I rip into unpacking the box, Borg powers up his laptop for a demo of some pre-recorded applications in low light, an area this IR-adaptive camera really excels. As we work on our jobs Borg tells me that prices to the end user are variously $A1017 for the 720p version, $1166 for the 1080p, about $1300 for the 3MP and $1500 for the 5MP. " holy CRAP! $$$$! we buy camera's with a few less capabilities for $220 each. -
Will my image quality improve if I purchase quality cameras

Save your money for IP it's quite cheap! -
yep, well said.... it's all about having the bandwidth in the congestion zones
-
that's true, but normal disks also have a write limit, just they tend not to be able to write to it fast enough to hit it in any reasonable amount of time keep in mind plenty of the top SSD's are now quoting wear limits in the Petabytes of data, give it enough years and that will all trickle down
-
I am a little confused as to what your question is... can you use IP cam's on gigabit network... yes. who is still on 100mbit network these days anyway? you atleast want a gigabit backbone? you can mix speeds with no issue, you just need to make sure the backbone has plenty of space and not doing anything silly like connecting two highly loaded gigabit switch's with a 100mbit link Ebay has very good gigabit switch's quite cheap, why not upgrade the whole network? if you're planning on lots of IP camera's you probably want to start looking at PoE or PoE+ gear though.

Homeland Security Ransomware hacked surveillance system??
MR2 replied to kcwf25496's topic in Computers/Networking
yeah agreed on the funny ****, but I'm assuming with enough investigation a simple and obvious answer will present itself, not a tin foil hat one lol +1 on how did you get fired? -
as the price for SSD gets down low enough, it may become preferential to have as much SSD as you can, I notice that the difference between intel's latest SSD is not the speed it runs at but actually the power it uses to run... the 520 series uses something like 3-4x the power under every scenario over the 530 series! be nice if your NAS drives idled at 1/4w as opposed to the 4-8w each drive sucks at the moment

MR2 replied to kcwf25496's topic in Computers/Networking
I use Ethernet over power all the time, it works great since you know it's coming from the DVR I'd have then started by putting a surge protected power board on it (the surge protected boards stop EoP working) other than that I'd be having a close look at how everything's connected and you'll probably find the answer -
Homeland Security Ransomware hacked surveillance system??
MR2 replied to kcwf25496's topic in Computers/Networking
normally when I have a situation like that I take an image of the computers hard drive for later analysis... if that computer was infected with that much spyware I'd be very careful about just removing it and letting them keep going, as you well know most virus's/spyware these days download other virus's & spyware, so given enough time the computer becomes un-usable, there are plenty of good free anti-virus programs around.... Avast... AVG etc as others have said, be VERY sure that its actually a live feed before rushing to any conclusions if it is getting a live feed then start looking at how it's getting to that computer... unplug any ethernet or wireless connection that computer has and see what happens, is it possible that at some point this company bought a camera which has wifi capability and maybe someone loaded the camera software onto the computer? the feed might not have been from the DVR itself but direct to a camera. -
Any Milestone dealers here?
MR2 replied to voip-ninja's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Milestone's Mantra is that the Dealers need to support their customers..... you can always post your questions here. there is support for Milestone Go on the forums, so maybe you just need to complete the registration of Milestone GO and it will give you details for the forum. -
