  1. Good info! I must admit we use Milestone, and apart from having a few quirks it's awesome, best mobile client I've found yet, best camera motion detect, pricing is good. 3 x Milestone installs now, all of them are kicking arse
  2. The Synology NVR software caps the incoming recording stream at 1080P, so you won't get the benefit of 3MP from your cameras. It is one of the biggest current limitations with the Synology software. Considering that the camera license fees for Synology are on the expensive side (compared to say Milestone or ExacQvision) the primary reason to go with Synology NVR is that you already have the Synology NAS and don't want to purchase a dedicated NVR or build a PC for capture. the limitation on the number of frames would become a big one once you get a few camera's too... 180 fps /20 camera's is only 9fps Surveillance Station MAX IP cam # (Licenses required) : 50 (1 Free License) (See All Supported IP Cameras) Total frame rate (FPS) : 720 FPS @ VGA, 360 FPS @ 720p, 180 FPS @ 1080p

    SOS HELP!!

    erk old Analog Cam's viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26832
  4. well, I've tried a local PoE Illumination and the unit I bought, even though it was a 60 degree angle, ended up being like a spotlight with one very bright piece of concrete and the rest too dark to see anything, I've heard Raytek are good, so where are you guys getting them from and at what price? I'm curious for installation technique as well, are you guys using the 120 degree units or sets of 60's or ? http://www.use-ip.co.uk/raytec-raymax-50-120-outdoor-high-power-poe-infra-red-led-illuminator-rm50-120-ip.html that's the best price so far, and I'm more than happy to order international to avoid paying 3 x that for it locally
  5. We've been using Geovision and just recently IPQ2322x (or something like that) which are $210 each for 3mp, they've been good, we've not had a single failure from any of those two sets of camera's yet... on the topic of IR I suggest going external being switched, for the software I love the PC stuff and running Milestone is my favorite so far, just running on an i5 PC... keep in mind when you get to a certain amount of camera's you need a GOOD storage device, which I consider to be a combo of a good raid card and good drives (7200rpm pref)
  6. They won't solve the problem I don't believe. They are still much too close to the lens itself. Other than ptz's where you can get into the menu and turn the IR on and off as needed, I haven't seen fixed cameras that you can do that. You can schedule them so they are in day mode all the time, so the IR remains off. At that point you're looking at a color picture and you need white light illuminating at least the immediate area that is most important to monitor. Anything else lit up, such as sections of street from street lights or other houses with lights will be a bonus in the shot. The problem as I see it could be that even white light near a camera could attract spiders close enough to be an issue too. My spiders are quite smart- they web up around lights because they know that's where the food is from the other flying insects that are attracted to white light too. I also haven't seen IR sensitive cameras, but without IR built in either. So unless there's cameras I don't know about- and would love to- it's a tough issue. And it's probably the single biggest issue I have with investing in mega pixel cameras with built in IR. I don't wish to spend hundreds on an even better image of webs and spiders. yeah, i think your probably right they would still be too close with those type of array camera. My main idea was that I was thinking of buying a bullet style camera which came with inbuilt ring IR and the sensor. Opening the camera up and then actually just disabling the IR array on it and then hopefully when it gets dark the light sensor believes it has triggered the IR array into coming on, switches the camera to black and white and then hopefully with my IR flood illumination working (at a good distance away). I was just hoping someone had done something different and knew a camera model this worked on. otherwise im going to have to start buying and ripping some cheap camera's apart to test my idea. actually this will probably work, in my experience with ripping apart camera's most of them have a daylight sensor that's mounted on the front, this daylight sensor sends a signal that: 1, trips the IR to turn on 2, trips the camera to flip into IR light mode... so in theory all you need to do is disconnect the cables to the IR array and not the daylight sensor and what you suggest will work just fine given enough time I'm about to do the same on some ebay camera's we have
  7. I gotta say, I love the post saying put your own camera's up, that is HILARIOUS!
  8. the Axis might be a winner, not sure why i did not see it before... does it do server side de-warping?

    POE - Which Switch?

you may need to have a look at a few things.... 1, is it mounted on some thing or in an enclosure that amplify's the noise 2, if your switch is particularly quiet is that because it's in a fairly noisy environment to begin with? 3, is there some command in the web interface of the switch that turns the fan down? 4, is the fan temp controlled, and the unit is gettting warm? I know the HP units are not particularly quiet, but it's a 24 port PoE switch that's business level, I expect noise!

    POE - Which Switch?

I must admit noise is why I'm planning on enclosing a rack I install in my roof in 45mm MDF (with aluminium heatpipe cooling) the 45mm MDF should be relatively fireproof for a short amount of time too
  11. http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/IPQ2322_zps5e84ef81.png inbuilt night vision when mounted 8m up http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/lol_zps4093c4d3.png night vision in a smaller room http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/NightVisionIPQIndoor_zps0fe0cd32.png opened, showing the vari-focal lens http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/ipqinsides2_zps608a6043.jpg what the front of it looks like: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/DSC03914_zps44199a39.jpg zoomed in on forklift of above image http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t370/mgoodwinmr2/Zoomin_zpsebbacfcf.png we're happy enough with them that we've just bought another 10x of them. features: PoE 3mp works with Milestone (Onvif) 86degree view at widest angle (2.8-12mm lens) Outdoor, (sealed) has IR, (not that great on large area's though) our latest buy we paid $210 each for them
  12. get a 30 day trail of software you want to use you said they "temporarily" don't want to buy anything...
  13. this looks ideal but I'm expecting that they will want $$$$ for it http://www.amgsystems.com/products/360-degree-ip-cameras/panocam360.htm
  14. Can you send power down HD-SDI? (for PoE implementations?) can you break out a HD-SDI link into a switch and then run another x amount of cam's off that switch? sorry I can't stand coax
  15. Nice, I might grab a few and see if I can get them sent over in the next batch we have coming from the states (of other goods) Cheers for the heads up
  16. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+exactly+is+HD-SDI erk! sounds like a band aid approach looking at what google comes up with, I'd throw cat6a (now very close to cat 5e pricing) and be happy that you're fine for the next 10 years, I also hate BNC connections with a passion, so unreliable and touchy on every site I've ever seen it
  17. Bloody well written, where are you guys buying the Hikvision stuff from?
  18. as long as separate means over a foot away (I'd go with over a metre) , ideally a few IR's placed in various distances would be good (think of how football fields or rooms are illuminated with the light spacing) that should be fine... the thing with inbuilt IR though is that generally it's only good for quite small spaces, so as soon as you start doing pretty long distances the inbuilt stuff does very little and your might as well just throw IR globes in existing sockets anyway
  19. well, here's my PC vs NVR argument on a NVR, how do you backup your config? how much of an operation is it to expand your NVR? say you want more CPU? more RAM? if the NVR falls over how hard will it be to find identical hardware in 4-5 years? what do you do if you want to upgrade past the two slots the motherboard has for disks? can it allow you to connect a NAS? is the NVR anywhere near as fast or as good as something like Milestone for mobile device viewing & playback? with a PC all of the above is very easy

    POE - Which Switch?

yeah, I'd start simple I don't regret buying our better (managed) switch's... we've had odd issues with ports failing on the cheap PoE's (sub $100)
  21. yeah the Dahua gets a good rep I could not do it though, too limited on the storage & expansion front
  22. Can I suggest a few points.... 1, Run the ethernet cable back to a central secure point, run more cables than you actually need for each run, you will find that from point to point you can easily run 4 as you can 1. 2, Do not run anything less than IP camera's, it just does not make sense to fight with old Tech anymore. 3, stop stressing about licence plate camera's, they are nothing fancy, the only thing about them honestly is where they are aimed, plenty of $200 camera's these days have vari-focal lenses which you can zoom in on an area and grab that specific area. 4, don't go for anything less than 1080p/3pm camera's 5, go a PC for your DVR, it means you can upgrade it and repair it cheaply as required. for the Camera's quite a few people on here like the Dahua. I personally like the IPQ2322x, do a google and you'll find them for $200, they even do night vision and have a nice image. for the switch, you 100% want a PoE switch, you have two options, either a PoE or PoE+ I prefer PoE+ for future proofing (it allows the devices hanging off your switch to draw up to 25/30w) if you get a managed one (more expensive) it lets you log in and reset a camera without having to go and unplug the cable (so if you have a VPN from your home to your work, you can do this remotely) for the software there are plenty of options, I've quite liked Milestone from the day I got it rolling, now we have 3 sites running it, there is a free version for up to 8 camera's however it's limited to no NAS access and only 5 days of footage (and a few other things)

    POE - Which Switch?

you are going to get Fans in just about every PoE switch, the reality is that sending power through the ports requires regulators, and regulators get warm, especially when you have large amounts of them packed closely (so any 16 port and up switch) with regards to putting racking/equipment into buildings if it's an office it should really be in a separate room anyway else you'll have that gear heating your whole office.... what we do in our factories is run B&R Sealed cabinets for these switch's, the cabinets have enough surface area to dissipate what heat is generated (even on 45 degree C days) that would probably reduce your noise, the other option is you could do if you are fine with Getto wiring is to disable the 40mm fans and run some ducting to some 80mm or 120mm fans which will have even better airflow, this however is not an option if the fan is built right into a power supply in the switch itself
