    Lorex netHD Stratus

Just wanted to add to this thread a bit... I was also getting the Lorex app crashing on my Galaxy S5 with Lollipop. I found that the Swannview Plus app is exactly the same as the netHD app, except it's blue and it actually works on Android 5.0. You won't be able to use the device ID, but it'll work with the DDNS or WAN IP from outside the network as long as your ports are forwarded, which it sounds like they are.
  2. Hey guys, It's been a while since I've been around these parts... I was researching NVRs a while back, but life got in the way and I put it on hold, until now. I was just wondering what the current general consensus was on the 1080p PoE Costco kits made by Lorex and Swann with the HikVision cameras. I haven't seen much discussion on them in a long time, and wondered if they've pretty much turned into crap or not. I just got the latest Costco deal mailer and it shows THIS 3TB KIT for $1500 after $500 off from 7/10/14-8/3/14. I was gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on this deal in the next few weeks, but I wanted to hear from the experts beforehand. Are the Lorex/Swann Costco kits still a great buy? I know ziktronix had one of the early Swann kits, I'd love to know if it's still running strong. Thanks for your help! Jose
  3. Hey Mike, Glad to hear your system has been running fine. I know it's quite limited, but I care more about image quality, night vision, and remote viewing more than PTZ and alarm inputs right now so this Lorex kit is perfect for me. Now I just have to figure out the best way to install cameras under my aluminum soffit... Thanks for your reply! Jose
  4. That looks great zikronix! Unfortunately something like that wouldn't work for me. I have aluminum soffit/fascia/gutters to contend with, with a pretty big air gap above the soffit. My home has security floods on the sides/rear that were on the house when I bought it, and the builder/installer attached them to the soffit itself which I'm not a fan of doing. I'll have to get up in my attic to see what it looks like from the other side, and I'm praying it won't be too bad. Here's a quick pic I snapped this morning of what I'm dealing with. Should be loads of fun!
  5. Pictures would be fantastic zikronix! After some serious thought, I'm going to wait for the Swann kit to come back with 8 cameras. If it's only around $50 more, then I think it's worth it to wait. You get better/longer support, PTZ, alarm input, the crappy mobile app can be trashed in favor of the HikVision one, and I can just make my own Cat5e cables so the 60ft lengths are a non-issue. The ability to put cameras directly on the LAN is a nice plus as well. Hell, just look at the OP and the amount of items in the pro/con list for each system. It speaks for itself. Swann it is! ETA: I've been meaning to ask you guys about the cameras. I see the female RJ45 pigtail coming off the cameras have another small female connector which kind of looks like a composite-type connector. Any idea what that's for?
  6. Err yeah, I worded that incorrectly. I did see that it doesn't support PTZ in your OP, and I was saying that it would be a nice feature to have in general. The other thing that threw me for a loop is this new Dahua NVR5208-P. I was thinking that maybe getting that with 8 cameras would be a bit more, but would give me more functionality. You do bring up a good point that there is nothing comparable to this kit right now at this cost. I'll keep sleeping on it since we have until the end of May, and I'll hope they don't run out of stock too soon. The other thing freaking me out is the install. :\
  7. Hey guys, the Lorex cameras are back in stock at Costco... http://www.costco.com/Lorex-HD-1080p-IndoorOutdoor-Night-Vision-2-Pack-IP-Bullet-Cameras.product.100043751.html I walked around my house yesterday and surveyed possible camera locations, and it looks like I will need 8 cameras for full coverage around my home. I added up the cost and I'm looking at $1550 for the Lorex PoE system with 8 cameras. I'm starting to wonder if I should wait for a better deal to come out with 8 cameras. I really like the specs of the Lorex kit. I won't integrate to my alarm, but the PTZ control would be nice. Ugh, what to do, what to do.
  8. Hey guys, just joined, this is my first post. Here's some night video from the Lorex system. http://media.webcollage.net/rwvfp/wc/cp/10361447/module/lorex/_cp/products/1362667994492/tab-5d669004-bbdb-4c7a-98b0-3228961986bc/NIGHTVISION_HDNVR.mp4.mobile.mp4 Ditto, I will settle for any video....lol
