    This DVR any good?

The argus one mentioned is pretty good, don't know how many of you use it in the trade, but the price im getting for a 4 channel argus like the one mentioned is cheaper than the avtech 4 channel, and its got an ethernet port, 50fps, relay and loops. The new 4 channel argus standalone has got a VGA port so you can connect a Pc TFT monitor straight, and the customer seems impressed. Avtech DVRs are generally robust, as are their cameras, but i haven't really tried other manufacturers cameras, about to try out a few sunkwang cameras.
  2. Few months ago I done an installation (12camera) for a Restaurant using a GV650 (12) card, it crashed yesterday, JUST MY LUCK, and TYPICAL GEOVISION! ATX400W PSU Intel P4 2.4GHz MSI 845PE Motherboard (Intel 845 Chipset) 512MB DDR memory (OEM) MSI MX440 8X Graphics card Win 2000 professional - Someone mentioned XP customisation, any method for Win2000?? 1X Maxtor 40GB HDD (Purely for operating system and Geo program) 2X Hitachi 120GB (Video storage) 1X Lite-on CDRW Any problems above? I’m using both primary and secondary master and slave. Also HDD Manufacturer? I heard Maxtor got problems and so does Hitachi, I got a few spare Maxtor 120GB HDDs Motherboard, anybody had any problems with MSI Mboards? The Spec was used for a GV650-16 port (V2) card, of which I used 12 camera ports, most recording on Motion. The system was connected to remote view (broadband) and I used Norton Firewall 2003. When I restart the computer I get an error message:- “Stop:- C0000221 {Bad image checksum} The image wow32.dll is possibly corrupt, the header checksum does not match the computed checksum” I probably have to do the comp from scratch again, I aint going to use Norton firewall, disable sound card, anything else I could do without incurring to many costs? Thanks for the support, I appreciate it

Geovision and the onboard sound card

David, The DVR you mentioned is quite good although it is an OEM product and you probably wont receive much support. i've used it a few restaurants for remote surveillance, no major problems yet. You're getting a good price for it too, the trade price for it is not too far of. You will probably need to purchase an ADSL router for remote view. NOTE that you can only have one remote connection at a time, so you cant have more than 1 person viewing remotely at the same time. I hope this info has been of use.

    Geovison system problem, AGAIN!

So what other cases do people use to prevent employees switching of the computer? Any other techniques you could use for PC based cctv systems. Lastly any way you could disable the ON/OFF button and Reset button while geovision is running?

    Geovison system problem, AGAIN!

Cheers Steve, very nice case, i've seen it at a few exhibitions, i need a lockable case now. Does everyone use specialist cases, or just ordinary cases??. I done an installation for a retail shop using a normal PC case costing aroud £25, someone had switched of the computer and stolen a couple hundred pound out the till. The manager told me to put the password protection so no-one can minimise the program, but that still doesn't prevent someone from switching of the computer. The worst thing, there wasn't even a camera in the office where the surveillance system was

    Geovison system problem, AGAIN!

I never thought cooling was a major issue, the computer case is fairly small, and i had no choice but to mount the hard drives on top of each other due to the space limitations. I'll try putting a few more fans, the computer has a clear side with 1 fan but i dont think that helped much. Cheers Guys
  14. Very neat installation, i aint done a industrial unit for ages, what DVR and cameras did you use in the installation?

What is more popular in your area?

We use loads of stand alone models, it tends to be harder for the korean oem sort of DVRs because you've got no proper instructions, i had to get a IT technician in when using remote view for stand alones, but they rip you off. But stand alones are so much more reliable, and i would prefer using stand alone, no firewall needed dont think, less chance of a connection drop, but just don't know how to! Check out http://www.sys-tek.co.kr/main.htm and look at the Argus C-16 Thats sold quite a lot in the UK, all you've got is a Ethernet port, how do i connect it to a broadband modem which has a RJ11 and USB connection?? When you order broadband, all you get is that modem, How do you program the connection properties, i.e. username and password? and what additional equipment to the DVR and ADSL modem would you need?

What is more popular in your area?

We've starting to use PC Based Systems, but stand-alone wins by far!, i only use geovison because of the remote view facility, its a lot easier than stand alone systems.

    Image flipping problems

Anybody had image flipping problems, basically the picture keeps on jumping up and down every now and then. It might be the PSU but im not sure what it is, any one had similar problems? Its quite a pain, because we use Geovision object counter quite a lot and it gives exaggerated "Ins" and "Outs" because it keeps on jumping, any suggestions?

herminshs, try http://www.asmag.com/en/edm/0512/yes.html. But somehow i don't pay and still receive copies, every now and then. i got a sample mag from a trade security show and it had a "free subscription" form at the back, try to get hold of a sample if you can.

    Image flipping problems

I recently installed 8 cameras all next to each other in my showroom. I used RG59 cable and alarm cable, the cable run was probably around 3-4 metres. It occurs quite often with the geo cards but i've seen it happen on a DVR (AVTECH). I haven't seen it occur on more than one camera at any one time as steve said. It only happens after you start to record for more than a couple days, and then the camera begins 'flipping' every couple minutes. I can't really describe lighting but it's quite average, there are a couple of low voltage transformer lights and a pendant light. As for PSUs, 4 cameras are driven by a 2.5A, 12v regulated PSU. But as i mentioned, it occurs more often with the geo card than any other recording method.

Yea that too rory, it also sets of motion detection, you reckon its the PSU?because someone recommended using an "Elmdene" PSU, i thought it might be something else, anyone got a solution?

    Shuttle PCs for Geovision use

Dvr_australia as i will now refer to you now!, I'm fairly new to the geovision business, i've probably done about 20-30 installation, not many, and on top of that i've had loadsssssaaaaa problems with them, mainly due to the components i use for the geovision. I've read a few of your replies and you seem as everyone else to have done tonnes more installations! The components i use and the way i build my systems has really held me back from getting larger jobs and the info on this site has helped loads. Give you an example, we only realised a year later that you need to partition the hard drive and keep all the video files in a seperate partition! So a good spec for a gv-800 would be: -P4c800 Deluxe from Asus -2.8Ghz P4 -512MBRAM -seagate 160GB Hd -Win XP Pro -Graphics card to match mboard? that should do, you're correct about the shuttle, if the PSU goes down, you'll have a big problem. Thanks for support guys

    Shuttle PCs for Geovision use

Thanks for your supports everyone i really appreaciate it!. LOL, anybody else would think you're hugh hefner, dvr-expert. So do you use the Antec cube computer as a machine for geovision? I'm probably gonna steer away from the shuttle cube, after reading some of the responses! what motherboard would you recommed for a GV800? i usually use an MSI845E, but you probably know better, also what hard drives do use?, i've had some problems with maxtor and heard of problems with western digital.

    Shuttle PCs for Geovision use

cheers thomas, the link seems to be broken for some reason, i just get a search option facility. I will be needing it for direct X 9.0 i think as V6.0 required 9.0. Anybody else use the XPC-SS51G?? or other shuttle PCs for geovision GV800>??

    Shuttle PCs for Geovision use

Thanks for the reply, could you recommend any specific model for the specification i have given. I've been recommended nvidia geoforce, but no-one's given me a specific model for the range. Could someone describe the difference between AGP4X, and AGP8X, the spec of the shuttle is (AGP4X). Also i need the card to have de-interlace function and directdraw overlay, any model you would recommend. I appreciate the responses!!!
