    Geovision installation

Cheers man, thanks for those recommendations again. Is it possible to transmit at 640X240 but record at 320X240. Having a lot of problems with this router think it might be the firmware because everywhere ive installed it, its been given me major problems, works for a couple weeks and then goes down, havent had a chance to check them yet. What router have you guys had good results with? Theres a geovision remote monitoring company and i haven't been able to apply for an account because they test the system for the first 40 days to see if it remains connected. any ideas? Thanks for your support in advance.

    4 cam home system recommendations

I would definitely go with Geovision, however it does depend if your use to the system or not. Are you building the system yourself? Don't know many resonable price standalone that does 100fps, however if your only recording motion and its a resedential job, i guess you could use a 50fps standalone. I would be interested in the performance of those cameras, i was thinking of using them for a job couple weeks back, ended up using vandal resistant domes with IR, problem was the range was only 10 metres.

    Geovision installation

Its quite funny joe because i used the same Ganz cameras indoor, except here they are called YCH-25. HOw does the quality on the webcam appear to be?

How did you get your pics? I took a 'snapshot' with the webcam remote view. If you used the print screen function, you would probably get unclear pic quality.

    Geovision login problem

Oh S***, ive been doing this with all my systems to test if it logs in properly. Thanks for notifying me, that probably explains all those strange phone calls ive been getting saying the system is not working. I was thinking of not connecting the reset switch altogether because with the new keylock facility, although it disables the power switch, you can still press the reset switch.

    Geovision login problem

By older software do you mean before v6.1?
  7. I think it's just you guys who offer it for geovision. We use camwatch for our standalones. I contacted the guys at securipol the other day, very impressed with their new price list. Im thinking of giving all my larger customers geovision if they're willing to pay for it! Ive tried to convince one of my biggest customers it'll save him money in the long run and he'lll get better recording quality; but he was a bit reluctant after i told him it was pc based; reminded me of rory

    Geovision login problem

Like the wireless keyboard idea, ideal for retail environment. Yea not sure what is causing the problem. I think it occurs if you don't restart the machine properly; i just hit the reset button Tell me something on the older software versions, v6.05 if you hit restart will it apply your last settings, e.g. if i dont start monitoring will the system reboot and continue not recording or will it apply your startup settings? I know v6.1 allows you to apply your typical settings or last saved settings, i'll try that and hope for the best!

    Please advise on cheap DVR

Hi Sammie, first of all your link does not work! There are quite a few posts on 4 channel DVRs for home installations. Try the avtech model, seems quite popular on this forum and it is fairly budget, ideal if you dont want to spend a lot. Its about £200 depending on where you are.
  10. Hi James, I thought your company had a partnership with securipol to provide remote monitoring?

    Anti-Virus G600-4

Never used an anti-virus, just go for the free checkup at trendmicro.com every 6/12 months. A Firewall is definitely worth it though. We used norton firewall with our computers when we used USB broadband modems. Now, thanks to the help from some computer guys on this forum, we've managed to get a netgear dg834 hardware firewall router operational, and that's been great, because not only does iit never disconnect but also prevents any hacking etc.

    Good suppliers in the UK

Lol cooperman, you're right those exhibitions really are a good exercise, IFSEC is probably one of the biggest. Ant, like cooperman, i would really recommend you attend the IFSEC security exhibition, we've found a lot of suppliers here, better meeting a personal representative than a chat over the phone. We've got a range of distributors, probably more than 5, i can tell you now, there's not a single one that supplies everything we need. We buy cameras from one guy, monitors from another, etc. I used to underestimate some of smaller distributors, but actually they give us better service and equipment than some of the larger ones. PM me with some of your regular requirements, i'd be more than happy to give you a few supplier contacts, because i know what a pain it is finding a good supplier!

    Geo BMP problem

Been having the same problem, DVR_expert told me about this and apparently geovision have no plans with sorting the problem out. Best thing if you've got an S1 chip, upgrade to GV6.1 otherwise, you'll just have to use v6.0

    What router to use

Hi Guys, Im installing a GV800-16 system for a client. He has ordered broadband. Would you recommend sharing the internet connection with other users or is it best to have a dedicated broadband access point for the geovision system. Also i need a high quality router with hardware firewall, which do you lot use? im thinking of using a Netgear (DG834) £50 router, will that do? Thanks for the support in addvance

    Costco

I know they were selling those cheapo swann systems last time i went, seems they've re-branded it as "Q-see". Also not sure about your opinions but that Q-see DVR looks like the argus dvr rebranded?

    Broadband router problem

Hi, I've bought a NETGEAR DG834 (4 port) broadband router for a customers geovision system. Trying to allow ports 80, 4550 and 5550 (these are the ports required for to forward to the geo system), but 4550 and 5550 dont seem to appear on the list of firewall rules, below is the list of all the inbound ports. Any(ALL) ANy(TCP)(TCP:1,65535) ANy(UDP)(UDP:1,65535) AIM(TCP:5190) BGP(TCP:179) BOOTP_CLIENT(UDP:68) BOOTP_SERVER(UDP:67) CU-SEEME(TCP/UDP:7648,24032) DNS(TCP/UDP:53) FINGER(TCP:79) FTP(TCP:20,21) H.323(TCP:1720) -HERES ONE OF THEM, but cant find 4550 and 5550**HTTP:(TCP:80)** HTTPS(TCP:443) IDENT(TCP:113) IRC(TCP/UDP:6667) NEWS(TCP:144) NFS(UDP:2049) NNTP(TCP:119) RCMD(TCP:512) REAL-AUDIO(TCP:7070) REXEC(TCP:514) RLOGIN(TCP:513) RTELNET(TCP:107) RTSP(TCP/UDP:554) SFTP(TCP:115) SMTP(TCP:25) SNMP(TCP/UDP:161) SNMP-TRAPS(TCP/UDP:162) SQL-NET(TCP:1521) SSH(TCP/UDP:22) STRMWORKS(UDP:1558) TACACS(UDP:49) TELNET(TCP:23) TFTP(UDP:69) VDOLIVE(TCP:7000) VPN-IPSEC(UDP:500) VPN-L2TP(UDP:1701) VPN-PPTP(TCP:1723) This problem's been bugging me for ages, first i thought i just needed to see the optician , but still cant see ports 4550 and 5550. when i forward all the ports to the geovision system, the webcam works perfectly, but i dont want to open ports unnecessarily. Thanks for support in advance guys[/img]

    Environmental camera housings

Although we used to use Transpac TPH1000s (nice looking housing www.transpac.com.tw), we've started to use the Ganz housing a lot easier to install and very little heater/fan circuit faults. Not sure what other brands are good, depends where you are, make sure they're IP rated though. Any good quality housing should do the trick, make sure the camera is as close to the glass as possible, it'll prevent reflection. Bit dazzled with this one, what do you mean by wipers ?

    Broadband router problem

ermmm...........1.not sure how to adjust half/full duplez settings? 2.?? 3. No other ports, just me connecting to the webcam 3. Dont think there's any infections because ive connected 3 systems with the same router and they're all giving problems. The network card is built in the motherboard (MSI845PE/MSI865PE) Gigabit ethernet. Should that do, or you reckon its worth buying a new network card. Thomas, how would i go about adjusting network card settings or checking for half/full duplex? Could it be a router setting?

    Broadband router problem

Hi Guys, Router is working great, a lot more stable. One problem though, the webcam seems to have slowed down a lot from before when i was just using a USB broadband. is this just a consequence with using a router or are there some sort of settings i could adjust? Thanks for the support in advance, also Thomas, that was a good intro into Networking, you're right seems the CCTV guys like me lack in the networking area, that thread has definitely summed up a few things for me, cheers! http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1048

    IR Camera "white out"

What camera are you using? I remember we had a similar problem with the AVC870 series of cameras from AVTECH. If it is in the housing with seperate IRs, try move the camera as close to the glass as you can.

    XP Pro SP2

Hi Guys, Any comments on XP Pro SP2, we've started to use them with our new geovision systems. Havent had any problems yet, but ive heard of a rebooting problem. Is it safe to use? Thanks in advance

    Broadband router problem

Cheers Thomas, done what you said, but i didn't know how to add them, anyway just found out netgear offer 24-7 tech support . So ive manually added the ports, one more thing, what type of ports are 80,4550 and 5550, ive got an option TCP,UDP, or TCP/UDP, does it matter what i select?

So in terms of Geovision, is it ok to use? Apart from the firewall ports issue as DVR_expert mentioned, is there anything else to watch out from?
  24. Could someone please explain the difference between these chipsets, and does any chipset offer advantage over the other? Also why is ExviewHAD CCD slightly more expensive than the superHAD, and is it worth spending the extra couple quid on ExviewHAD? Thanks for feedback in advance
  25. Hi, For 1-4 cams we've always used GV600-4, mainly due to the faster frame rates, and its not a massive expense. Some guys on this forum would also recommend for you to go with an 8 way system, so you can add additional cameras if you ever had to. Personally we've never needed to expand for home use. Xp PRo will do but you could always save a few quid and go for Xp Home, Pro won't offer much advantage over home edition as your only running a gv600 system. As far as spec goes, im not an expert yet but 1.3GHz should do for GV250-600, make sure you use a good PSU and RAm, we've experienced loads of faults latelydue to cheapo PSUs. Also use a good graphics card, so you can run a coax and watch from your TV.
