Thanks Thomas. So how do you connect the SATA HDDs, If you're not using the IDE1 and IDE2 connectors, where do you connect them to, and would you require a different form of cable?

Can someone identify this DVR?
CCTVINSTALLER replied to juggle007's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Jungle007, a more popular 4 channel dvr in the uk market is the hunt one. We've started to supply this one. There is no audio, but its a lot more reliable and we've found this dvr to be a lot more robust than the avtech and motion is easier to set up. And if i'm correct, you can buy this dvr on the net for £259 with a 120GB. Also for £40-£50 more you can get an ethernet card built in. http://www.hunt.com.tw/Products/01.asp?adaType=H06&adaArticleID=113&txtSearch= -
Can someone identify this DVR?

The first one looks like an avtech model. Its good for the price, but its a very entry level dvr with basic features. What is it going to be used for? For home use its not a bad machine, i personally wouldn't purchase this dvr on ebay, i'd buy it of a reputable supplier, PM me if you want a couple of companies. Also if you're in the trade, i can tell you, its a lot cheaper and you'd get better tech support and warranty. try www.avtech.com.tw and http://www.avtech.com.tw/english/product_13_773.htm As a company however, we've stopped using avtech dvrs. Started to get too many 16 channel PSU problems, only used couple of these machines, there are certainly more stable and higher quality 4 channel dvrs on the market at slightly higher prices. -
You planning to come any where near london?

Hi all, For those of you who use Ganz cameras, how do they compare to Bosch Dinion range and other brands such as Sony, Sanyo and Panasonic. I'm Particularly interested in the 1/3" Day/Night. In the past we've used sony or panasonic Chipsets, the Ganz cameras have an "IT chipset", haven't come across this yet, any feedback. Cheers

I think the ZC-NH403 is the more expensive one you're talking about. I've seen this camera, but its made in taiwan, hows the quality compared to other DN cams. How would people rate the samsung SDN520 in the day night camera market place
-
I agree with Thomas, the tech support is an issue. Not sure if anyone distributes geo in scotland, but you can try rfconcepts in ireland, they also supply Day night cameras (budget) as you probably don't require professional day night cameras.

is xvision the same as geovision
CCTVINSTALLER replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Haven't Y3k been supplying for a long time though? If they were dodgy cards, i reckon someone would have done something by now. I took a look, and the GUI looks same as Geo apart from colours. But if they're claiming to sell geo and you got what you got, then something ain't right. Did you buy an 'xvision' card or a geovision card? -
Can anyone help me?? I'm doing a quote for a small shop using a Geovision as a DVR, i'm going to use a shuttle PC (XPC SS51G- SiS chipset) as a computer for geovision. It has 1 PCI slot and 1 AGP slot. What does AGP (4X) mean? can anyone recommend a graphics card for the following shuttle PC quote. Its for a GV 800, i know everyone prefers Intel chipsets, but this shuttle PC has been a massive seller in the UK for geovision. Ive done an installation before using this exact same PC but i had a problem with the graphics card, i used a MX440 AGP8X and it worked well for a few days but on some startups, the screen was giving all sorts of funny interferences etc. Any other comments on shuttle PCs?? Is there any particular market people have found easier to market geovision. Apart from food superstores, which has the EPOS benefit. What advantages can i give to my customers in which market. Any feedback is appreciated

I understand what you're going through robert, we're stuck in the alarm business and trying to move into CCTV, but proving very difficult!

Feedback on Samsung/Digital Watchdog DVR's
CCTVINSTALLER replied to knightvision's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I bought a samsung DVR a long while ago, its been quite stable, but for the price it isn't very competitive. And ive seen the same DVR being sold by some taiwanese or korean company, i reckon its an oem. Ill try find the link and let you know -
Has anyone used this type of wire yet?
CCTVINSTALLER replied to rory's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If you're using twisted pair wouldn't you require an additional plug/balun. While i'm here what is a balun, is it a CAT5 to BNC converter that you need at the end of a utp cable? Never seen this sort of cable, a company down here sells a plug/balun with video and power, and CAT5 cable's only around £25 for 305m, don't see the need for an additional DC cable. -
RG6 versus RG59
CCTVINSTALLER replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I prefer using RG58 slighlty thinner than the RG59U cable. Its also more flexible because the inner core is stranded, makes it difficult to crimp sometimes though. But dont forget you can also stable it a lot easier, and its slightly cheaper -
Whats the quality like, i bought a chinese DVR a couple months ago, biggest S*** i;ve ever come across, let me know what you find when you test it. www.dvr365.com, these guys sell it, but its quite expensive.

Who is DVR Wholesaler.com
CCTVINSTALLER replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
rory, have you tried out these DVRs? im about to place a fairly large order for them, i got a sample and so far i've tested them out for about 4 days, anyone got feedback? i think there is a thread on this dvr -
When do you use geovision? (ignore previous poll)
CCTVINSTALLER posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
Just curious to know what sort of jobs geovision is used for, Standalones have the advantage becuase they're cheaper and have basic festures for the average shop owner However, Geovision has the features, but for smaller jobs would you use geovision or standalone DVRs? -
Req. DVR system 50FPS per channel recording
CCTVINSTALLER replied to D&C_ELECTRONICS's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I dont know much about ips, but isn't 25fps real time?, i dont think you can get higher than that. -
Fred, Do you prefer using the avtech web server with a standalone dvr or using the argus equipment?
-
david, you'll only need the vga card option if you want to connect a pc monitor, the tv can be connected direct to the dvr using a scard fly lead and a phono to bnc converter
-
I've tested out the new Phillips cameras, the dinion range i think its called, very impressed, the picture quality is amazing, and you get a coax to USB connector to alter the picture settings of your camera through your computer, i haven't tried out ganz, i used to use the computar range cameras like 10 years ago. The problem with phillips and ganz, i find it very difficult to convince a shop owner or restaurant owner to purchase these sort of cameras, they prefer spending more on the dvr. Fred i agree with you that the picture quality is not as good as it uses jpeg compression, but i've found the system quite reliable, less problems than pc based. As far as retail shops and small restaurants, how many of you use geovision as opposed to standalone machines such as the argus or avtech one? Thing is if you're only buying geo for the remote view feature, then you'll be better of purchasing a standalone dvr. Most of my small shop customers only want the remote view 'phenomenon'. any thoughts?
