Just to get the ball rolling guys, which Access control products do you guys use? We have only done around 10 large scale access control installations, and have used HID proximity equipment, a bit expensive, but excellent quality and reliability! I have not tried out any other manufacturer so would appreciate any recommendations for the smaller jobs.

I'm having a continuous problem, i hope you guys can help me. Basically ive created a second user under the "User" group. Ive restricted all the things such as minimise, stop monitoring etc. Ive added the new username and password to the startup auto login box in system config so it logs in automatically. I have also enabled startup monitor- monitor all so it starts recording when the system reboots (auto reboot). Everytime i restart the machine, the system does not start recording like it should. Ive checked everything and can't figre out the problem. Does it matter which user group i put it under e.g. "supervisor", "poweruser". Also what other tips can you guys offer to tighten security on Geovision, because at the moment, its so easy to just log out the system. Thanks for your support in advance

Geovision cards and video (graphics) cards... Which one?
CCTVINSTALLER replied to C7Installer's topic in Geovision
We've always used cheaper video cards. I usually look for two things, 1= fan on video card 2= supports directdraw overlay for fullscreen viewing (which most of them do) Never been too fussed about them, customer hardly notices the difference anyway. -
Anyone know how to make a time laspe movie from a GEOVISION?
CCTVINSTALLER replied to iwatchlive's topic in Geovision
How about giving the customer a multiplexer and connect a VCR, put the loops back into your geo. However, You'd have to manually hit record at random times in the day. -
Another problem we are having with GV-1240
CCTVINSTALLER replied to iwatchlive's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You won't be able to use the smart function, because there is no need!! You have a GV800 4 way= 100/4= 25fps, which is realtime. Not sure what the specs are for the GV1240, havent used these cards yet but i am assuming it is the same reason. hope this helps -
Im trying to find out the IP of my Geovsion system so i can forward to correct ports to the computer. When i open cmd and type in ipconfig, the cmd screen just disappears. Ive done this like a million times with no probs but getting no luck with this particular system. The computer network is using DHCP so dont know any other way to find out the IP. Any ideas?

Yes, you can get it from most online retailers. If you're in the trade give me a PM and i'll send you the details for the main distributor in the UK.

Thanks to the guys on this forum, this place is more like an online family, lol. We were quite lucky we decided to go London on Wednesday rather than yesterday to finish of a CCTV Job. -
ALL BRITISH POSTERS PLEASE REPORT IN!
CCTVINSTALLER replied to cctv_down_under's topic in General Digital Discussion
Very sad news, still not sure what it is, just listening to the radio and apparently it was some sort of power surge causing a blast in the tubes. Also something about 3 bombs in a bus. Total confusion around here, mobile networks were down couple hours ago. Bunch of a**holes whoever di this -
We've never experienced dead pixels with security cameras, not that i know of. I know its commonly associated with TFT monitors

BOSCH.. Need Urgent Feedback!!!!!
CCTVINSTALLER replied to cctv_down_under's topic in General Digital Discussion
The support we get from Bosch is great, used their CCTV products on 2 jobs, not a problem but only because the customer had loads of $$ and specified bosch . We use their intrusion products almost daily, great quality and we've been using it for ages. Overall don't think the price of their products weigh up the features they're offering, support is great but thats really about it. -
Multiple monitors again!!!!!
CCTVINSTALLER replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
What cable did you use for the Cat5 extenders. Try using Shielded Twisted pair and connect the shield to the Dsub screw so they share a common ground. This should eliminate the inteference and you should get a higher quality image. Also what Cat5 extenders are you using? You might want to go for more expensive ones such as minicom. Either way, i wouldnt want to run bulky VGA cables, that can be a real pain especially when you're running more than one. -
Geo cards use software compression. However i think the new hybrid card uses hardware
-
It could be beta software, beta software does not require the S1 chip to run

Very nice pic quality baywatch. What resolution can you record with avermedia? Im guessing you've got broaddband, whats the upload speed? video seems very slow compared to a geovision

Geovision Port forwarding assignments
CCTVINSTALLER replied to WildCard's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You don't need all those Wildcard, you just need 80, 4550 and 5550 for webcam to work. We rarely require the other ports unless the customer asks for audio control in which case we add them to the list. Try webcam on a Local network before you try connect remotely. -
Geovision Port forwarding assignments
CCTVINSTALLER replied to WildCard's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I think scott is trying to say you need all those ports you mentioned before for webcam to work you definitely need 80, 4550 and 5550 (4550 and 5550 are for video and data). 3550 is for audio i think and im not to sure about remote desktop, but 3389 sounds about right. -
Rory, what camera are you using? I know its an oem, have you got a pic? I done an installation where i had the exact same problem, didn't find a solution. Would love to know if they were the same cams
-
Not too sure rory, with geovision we add the partitions to the video storage settings so when the 1st partition's full it'll jump on ot the second and once that is full, it starts recycling back from partition 1. We can add as many as we want. What dvr card are you using?
-
try rfconcepts.co.uk or ezcctv.com

I will try to go through the router next time. Quick question, is it feasible to use DHCP for CCTV networking? the remote function of our cctv system suddenly stopped working today and found out today the customer had some IT guys over who took out the patch lead for the CCTV system and inserted it into another port in the patch panel. So the IP address of the DVR changed and so the ports were being forwarded to the incorrect IP.

im using win xp pro sp2. Im not sure exactly what the problem was, my tech guy was onsite this morning and he said as soon as he hit enter, a black screen would show up and then disappear. fdan i think you're right in saying 'ipconfig' is being entered directly in the run box rather than a command prompt. Thanks, wasted nearly an hour on the phone this morning, at least now i know what the problem was!!! Damn, need some new engineers!!

When i click enter, the cmd screen disappears

Thanks rory, ive got the IP address of the ISP from the router, im trying to get the local ip 192.168.1..... of the computer
