  1. Hi folks, thanks for taking time to read this over.. Purchased two POE switches, 2 x Y-cam Bullet HD 1080, 4 x Y-cam Cube HD 1080 a few Solwise PowerLine 'adaptors' with POE (PL-500AV-POE) - the makings of a flexible and easy to install CCTV system. I thought I'd research the many cloud services out there, sign up and hey presto everything will be fine, after all, the cams I have will trigger an FTP Push on motion detect. So, I have the hardware and I'm still researching. Now I am beginning to realise the cloud services work in a very different way from how I imagined, in fact they do the last thing I would expect; they stream the live video across a rather meagre broadband connection - THEN attempt to perform motion detection. I nearly choked on my cornflakes!! Please can someone tell me the world has not gone mad, that I am looking in the wrong place or that everyone but me has a super-fast fibre optic link to the nearest data centre? What I imagined is that for most of the time the system sits idle. No data streamed. Nothing. Having setup motion detect on the camera (surely the best place to do this?!?!) Then when triggered it would push a few JPEGS or a 10 second clip to the cloud. After which the cloud magic then sends an alert via email or SMS, based on some simple rules such as I have set my status to 'out', the cam at the back of the house is triggered (know because the images are written to a directory called './back'). Then I pick up my phone, run the app, view the latest clips - or use 'IP cam viewer' to get a live real-time view of what’s going on.. Or maybe I'm bored on the bus and simply want to flick through all captured files and watch the postie pick his nose after delivering my morning letters as seen by the cam at the front of the house. Is there a place out there lost in the noise that offers such a service??
