New to cat 5 any advice?

cmon, would you go out and buy a corvette for you and your wife and take the kids to christmas in the trunk? do it right the first time.... 1 cable for each camera. its only $50 per 1000ft and im guessing that you can get 5 runs out of that. this way has less connections that you can screw up and you can always move the cables to different locations later on, if need be.

    Newbie install

The main difference with rg-6, rg-59 is the shielding, which you seem to know about. cctv has a copper shield and catv has an aluminum shield. Im sure it would work ok if you can get the connector on.
  6. ok, so im really happy how our last job went. new gas station with 16 cams. 13 outdoors, 3 indoors. opened all hardware at jobsite and assembled outdoor housings and cams. installed all new cabling(new gas station), cat 5 to a pos router, two monitor cables for two monitors that we hung in the customer/cashier area. mounted outside and inside cams. focused on pumps, exits. ty wrapped all cables, set up dvr, mapped network drive, installed printer, performed housecleaning. arrived at noon, left at midnight, drove home 3 hours. we've installed quite a few of these, so we have all the correct drill bits/tools/screws handy, but it sure did go well. of all the issues that are possible, we had to go to wal-mart at 11:30 pm to get a new mouse!! These usually take us two days, as my dad likes to b.s. with all the other contractors there, hahaha
