My Sony Hi 8 hand held video camera seems to work better than my cct cameras. The quality of video was much better Than my Hi Res. Day Night cameras that I paid a fortune for. I was able to zoom in on the neighbors licence plate from 5 houses away. And the auto focus was great. And it worked in color mode with a sharp picture at night. I only paid $150 for that video camera. I think it would fit in an outdoor enclosure. The only problem I had was. When I was not recording. The camera would shut off after three minutes. I had an idea that maybe if I cut the recording tape and hit record it may not turn off. But I hate to think of all those parts in the camera turning 24 hrs. a day. the other problem is it said Rec. on the screen at all times. I went into the the menu and there was no way to stop the auto shut off. Or the Rec. display on the screen. I wonder if the new digital cameras would even display a better picture than the Hi-8. You can get open box small digital video camera for a $150 all day long. The thing that was amazing. The picture was way better than my Pelco 1390 Day Night camera and my Panasonic Day night camera. I am not happy with the way my pelco and panasonic look at night. To much snow from the gain. If I turn down the gain. I can't see enough at night. The hand held video cam works better in dark conditions. I called a CCT camera store and the guy told me it would cost about a thousand dollars to purchase a camera with the features and quality of picture that my hand held video camera could produce. So here is my questions. What is the deal? does it make sense that the cheap video cameras produce better images? Are they cheaper but actually better than CCTV cameras because they can sale mass quantities of the hand held video cams. Maybe CCTV cameras are more expensive because they don't sale as many. So they cant offer as good of components for the money? I am going to do some more testing with the video camera into the Geovision. What are some of your thoughts on the hand held video cameras hi 8 and digital verse the CCT cameras. Thanks. Dave

I just installed a 400 gig. Seagate Hard drive. I had to make two Partitions. With two drive letters. C and D. What is the best way to install Geovision software. I would think put the Windows OS on C. And put Geovision on D. If I should leave Geovision on C. How do I get it to save video to D? First I put the Geovision software on C. Than I also put it on D. Now it is only recognizing the space on C. Even though I am loading the Geovision on D. What is the best thing to do at this point? Thanks for the help. Dave

New hard drive and Geovision system now all messed up!

I ran scan disc. It was taking forever. Went to bed woke up and Scan disk had closed down. Dave -
My Geovision software skips frames on playback. The problem is worse in quad view. Single view it is just a bit jerky. If I save the video to an Avi file the video plays at the correct speed. Is this the way Geo works? My old Dvr played back at the right speed. Sholdn't the geovision play back more at a more normal speed? Thanks Dave My computer is a Pentium 4 - 2.3 Ghz with HT Windows Xp Service Pack 2 512 Mb Ram Video card Ati 9550 Geovision 800-8 currently running four cameras Geovision 8.2 software

Why didn't I think of that. Geo card and system overload. I will be suprised if that dosn't work. I'll try to shut down the recording end of Geo. But here again I am asking myself. How could my $500 dollar Swann DVR Record and playback flawlessly? And it has live view also. I'm going to pop a hard drive back into the Swann and re-check the playback. Just don't understand it. I have a fortune into this computer. Video card, Sound card, Geo card, Exspensive monitor. And still not sure how much better if at all. This system is compared to the Swann. My Swann does not record in Mpeg 4. But for another $100 I could get a Dvr that does record at Mpeg 4. And has a Cd or Dvd burner on it. Just need to find one that has a seperate camera output for each monitor. Or just get some type of looping multiplexor going into the Dvr. Thanks. Dave
-
Thanks for the tip. I am using Mpeg 4. I will try the Mpeg 4 asp. If I change the speed. My sound playback cuts off. I just noticed even when I am not recording. It skips frames. When the cars go by they jump ahead a few feet each second. Dave

Hand held video cameras compared to CCT Cameras
Arockerdude replied to Arockerdude's topic in Security Cameras
If I don't have it on record . It shuts off after 3 minutes. The tape must be in to record. I use the Geovision 800 for recording. Does that mean that a video tape records better than the GV800? Dave -

How do you drag and drop Geo Software?
Arockerdude posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Is there anyway to drag and drop Geovision software? I'm running an ATI 9550 video card with two displays. The only way I can see to get the Geovision software onto the number two monitor is to drag the window all the way to the right and it appears on the right hand screen. But I can not drag and drop the Geo software. So I am I out of luck again with this one? Thanks Dave -
One computer, Two monitors and run diff, prgrams on the two
Arockerdude posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Is it possible to run two monitors off one computer. Displaying the Geovision800 card software on one computer and displaying my windows programs on the other. I have an ATI 9550 video card installed and I also have a backup video card I can use if needed. I see that the ATI 9550 is set up for two differnt monitors. But I don't think it will run two different programs at the same time. Thanks for the help. Dave -

I couldn't get the remote viewer to work. But it sure looked like a good program if I could get it to work. I see what program you are talking about. The dmpos.exe I couldn't find it when I searched my Hard Drive for dmpos.exe Had to take off the .exe and it came right up. Now to figure out how it works. Looks pretty easy. Thanks all Dave -

(I used the I used the dmpos.exe located in the geo folder to position the cameras to the 17" LCD, and everything else runs on the other monitor in dual monitor mode. I even have the 20" hooked up to a kvm so I can bounce back and forth to other servers, but the 17" still views the cameras. located in the geo folder to position the cameras to the 17" LCD, and everything else runs on the other monitor in dual monitor mode. I even have the 20" hooked up to a kvm so I can bounce back and forth to other servers, but the 17" still views the cameras.) When I clone the left screen to the right screen. Everything on both of the screens is the same. Now when I just try two activate both screens without cloning. There is no icons just wallpaper on the right screen. If I drag windows two the right side of the left sceen they appear on the right screen. Thats all I can figure out on the dual screen mode. I cant figure out how to do anything other than drag windows to the right screen. And I can't drag the Geo software. So I could not get it to work. I get no icons or start menu on the right side screen. -
Oh man. I'm much happier with my system. I combined the two systems. I use the Geovision for recording. I get about six recorded days with a four hundred Gig. Hard drive recording Mpeg 4. The swann only got three days with the 400 Gig. But I liked the way the Swan looked live view. Especially with a single camera in full 19 inch wide screen. I didn't realize the Geovision 800 was not giving a live straight through view. Thanks to this post. I found that out. So I split my camera cables and plugged the Swann in for live view. And now It's all good. I now have a combined system. Both systems are plugged into a Samsung SyncMaster HD lCD Monitor. I picked up a really good CRT Hitachi Super Scan Elite 751 monitor Yesterday. But it did not look even close to this Samsung LCD monitor. The Samsung was much brighter sharper and more colorful. This monitor also has a built in TV tuner, AV inputs, R,G,B, Progresive scan, and I was able to hook the computer into the monitor with a digital video input. After all my test I would highly recommend this monitor. Thanks to all on this post. Especially Antdickens for mentioning the Geo not displaying the live view. So that's what all the hype on the combo cards is about. Any way thanks all. You helped me come up with a solution to the problem I was having . I was trying to match the live view of my cheap DVR. Especially on single camera view. At full screen. I do agree though. If your looking at four or more cameras at the same time. The Geovision does look good. And the recording is great. As long as I don't look at the recording single camera full screen. One problem I'm still having is on playback. The video go's a little two slow. Kind of looks like a slide show sometimes. And if I speed it up a little I can't listen to the sound while playing back. If I save it as an AVI. The AVI plays at the right speed. Is this just the way Geo works? The slideshow view at normal speed. One more question. How do I get to that AGC adjustment. Iv'e seen it somewhere. But can't remember how to get back to that control. The Swann has no loops. That would have been very helpful. Thanks again for the help. Dave

Ok I think I found what your talking about. It sure is exspensive. Cost more than the $300 I paid for the Geovision 800-8 card. Here is my question on this DSP card. Can I display the cameras live one at a time as well as all four or all eight at a time? And also does anyone know where I can get one for not to much $$ Here is a link to the one I found online. [edit by mod - sorry no store links) My other question is. Can I split my camera cords two ways with a right angle T without losing to much signal? I don't see why not when the cord that goes into the Geo card is so small to begin with. This way I could use my old Swann DVR for live view. Thanks for the help. Dave

Can you tell me were I can get a DSP add on card. I can't find them on Geovisions web site. Are they called DSP add on cards? Thanks. Dave
-
I wonder if I would have too much signal loss if I just split the camera cables two ways.
-
What is a DSP output? Does my Geovision 800 have this?

Does anyone know which of these monitors are the most compatible for a Geovision800 setup. Also does anyone know if I can hook up a CRT for my Geo800 and my regular LCD for computer functions to my ATI 9550 video card at the same time. Thanks for the help. Nextgen. I put that Ultra VNC on my computer. And Rory went to town on my system. It was cool. I got to sit here and watch him go to town on my system. He even downloaded some cool software and scanned my system. All from the Bahamas. Man technology is great sometimes. Except when it's putting you out of a JOB. Which has happed to me before. That Rory is a great guy. Take care. Dave

Hooked up a Geovision 800 card two weeks ago. Software version 8.1 Four cameras. Hooked up so far. Replacing my Swann DVR4Net Plus Here is my problem. When I leave it in quad mode. It looks pretty good. (Small picture) Records real good also. When I take a camera to full screen. It looks bad! I have bypassed the computer with each camera straight into the AV in on my monitor and they look great. I think my video card may not support De-Interlaceing and maybe not Direct Draw overlay either. I can't find anything in the NVIDEA control panel on either thing. My card is an NVIDEA Geforce FX 5200 Computer is a Pentiun 4 CPU 2.40 MHZ with HT Technology XP Service Pack 2 512 Mb Ram Gigabyte Motherboard Intel 865 PE Chipset 800 MHZ front side bus. Here are some samples of what they look like. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong I would appreciate the info. Thanks Dave

I picked up the Ati 9550 256 mb. And Installed it with their newest drivers off the internet. But it still looks the same. Not to bad when in quad view but realy bad in full screen. Also the speed is always too fast or too slow. Never nice and smooth. If I bypass the computer. And plug my cameras straight into the monitor they look great. Such a bummer. I never had this problem with the Swann DVR. I don't want to give up on this Geo 800. But I'm getting pretty frustrated with how bad it looks. Dave
