which dvr HW compression card should i choose?
buzz427 posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hey guys, Im looking at a 8 camera system and been going crazy trying to decide what card to go with. My choices are the Geovision GV-2008 or the Hikvision DS-4016HCI Run in a 8 camera application or the Nuuo 5000 series My Top requirements are -Picture quality -Real time view and recording FPS -Remote View quality I know that the Hikvision and the Nuuo do HW compression of Mpeg-4 part 10 and that the GV-2008 only does Mpeg-4 Part 2. Have read that Mpeg 4 part 10 (h.264) is much better but i dont Know. Any advise would be great. even it it means i should look at a different card. Thanks -
keep live playback on 1 monitor while u review video on another monitor? also keep recording while you are reviewing footage thanks Buzz

i wonder, 16 cameras real time display etc per camera, that much information going thru the bus i wonder if the pci slot is a "bottleneck" and that youd get better performance thru the pci express slot. I mean im sure that its not a problem, just conversation i guess
-
Then the question that remains is what slot has a higher bandwith? the pci express 1x slot or a regular pci slot?
-
If im not mistaken, the pci express slot usually for a video card is a 16x slot where are the regular pci express slots are 1x slot Now is the pci express version of the 1480 based on a 16x slot or the 1x slot? i wonder???

Does that hardware compression card require a dvr card in conjunction with it or is that the dvr card itself?
-
the DVI, the D-type or the Pci express? all my equiptment can accomdiate either ones so i wasnt to sure what to get. I was thinking the pci-express but thats only a 1x slot i believe so its prolly almost the same as a pci slot; and i dont know why the dvi would be better? any help here would be appreciated Thanks Buzz

Hey im looking at building a dvr system. I dont know exactly which route to take, but from reading the posts here ive noticed that the best advice is not to go cheap What im looking for is a 16 channel system that has best viewing and recording rates possible with good picture quality. Ive been looking at Geo's GV 1480 and put a kickass computer behind it Will this fit the bill? or should i buy a stand alone dvr? Not too sure what road to take. if DVR when what one? Is the GV-1480 pretty much the best choice for a dvr card? Money is really not the issue here casue truley you pay for what u get and quite honestly i hate dropping down a moderate amount of it and not being happy. Id rather go the distance and be pleased with the system. Thanks for your input guys Buzz

ya, i noticed that there were the 3 different cards. Lemme give u an example of what i am talkign about. If you go to geovisions website right there if u look at the heading "GV-Combo cards" look at the pic of that card. then click on the heading and the pictures of the 3 cards will show up If you look closely you will notice that the card layouts are different. there are different chips on them and stuff this is just an example.. there are many pictures and the cards its a bit hard to nitice but when u do notice it, it stands out! thanks

ive been looking at the gv-1480 combo card and from looking at the different pictures people have posted on websites and such, there seems to be 2 different cards? is the one card a older version or something? anyone know? thanks buzz
