Check out the Cambium epmp1000 units. I have used them for similar applications like yours with excellent results.

Glad the power cycle worked. I've driven hours to a customer just to pull the plug and plug it back in. The Bosch MR model was notorious for requiring a power cycle from time to time. You might try a small UPS on the 600. That solved some of our MR's needing to be rebooted all the time. We've also been running into lots of HD failures in the 600 series. Mostly the 1TB and 2TB models. Be sure to keep an eye on the 600 to see if it hoses up again. Don't be caught short on the 3 year advanced exchange warranty!

Do you get an error message saying device not available or something similar? Or does the client software give up trying? Tried power cycling the 600?

You will want to make sure your new recording software has drivers for Phillips/Bosch PTZ cameras. If your Bosch cameras have new enough firmware, they can also be controlled with Pelco commands via RS485. But I would recommend using the native Bosch Bi-phase connection instead. What are you using now to control the ptz? I have used the Bosch RS232 to Bi-phase converter box with good success. You will need RS232 from the computer running the recording software. And as I said earlier, your software will need to support Bosch or Phillips ptz commands.

Have you looked at Blue Iris as an alternative? I have ran multiple HD cameras on it with good results.

BTW...if you decide to use Bilinx for PTZ, be sure to use only CCTV grade coax cable and not CATV type coax. CCTV uses copper braid and CATV uses aluminum braid which is not good for non-RF applications like video and Bilinx signals.

Your all set with the DiBos. This camera should do bilinx up the coax but if it doesn't, you can fall back to Bi-Phase which will require an additional pair of wires. I tried to find a picture of the mount on the net but google didnt turn up what I was looking for. The camera pod fits into mounting cap by inserting and making a 1/4 turn to lock in place. Set screws then make sure it stays put. The mounting cap is available with threads to mount on the end of a threaded pipe. There is also a pendent arm that has the mount built in. Here is a sold eBay auction that shows some of what I am trying to describe. The mounting cap is in the lower center of the picture. It is built-in on the mounting arm shown just above it. I install Bosch cameras for my employer and have some old units here at home. However they are not easily adaptable to other brands of DVRs or recording software. This because not many companies other than Bosch support the Bi-Phase protocol for controlling the PTZ. The unit on eBay appears to be just the camera pod and doesn't include the mount. You will also need a controller capable of sending the Bi-Phase control code to the camera. This camera could be capable of using Pelco commands too but this feature may need the Bi-Phase controller to enable the feature via the on-screen menu. I would look for an IP PTZ instead as I have spent a lot of time scouring the internet to find a way to control my Bosch PTZs with my Blue Iris software.

Really? That may very well solve one of my other previous installations here at home. I was trying to get Blue Iris to control a Bosch G4 PTZ using the Pelco protocol. I'll have to dig out a ptz and give it another try using the different baud rate. Or at least until Blue Iris supports Bosch bi-phase which I thought the author was working toward. It seems us Bosch users are not a large enough majority to have applications set up for us.

Sorry if these questions are repetitive. I don't think the termination setting is a deal breaking but would make sure it is set to terminate if this is the only camera on your loop. It sounds like you have the output from the Pelco controller connected properly. There is generally a three conductor cable with one being shield. Your only concerned with the other two conductors for connecting to + / - or txd, rxd. Camera ID? I think setting the ID to zero responds to any ID sent to it. If used, do you know the RS-485 or even the Bosch bi-phase communication inputs work? These inputs can be damaged from voltage surges caused by lightning. From past experience trial and error and equipment swapping are sometimes the only way to determine where the problem is. And since you only have one camera and one controller, you have nothing to swap. Have you seen this? I'm not familiar with the VEZ-400 but am familiar with other Bosch ptz. Does the VEZ have separate RS-485 input connections? Other Bosch ptz models will accept Pelco only through their 485 input. Do you need to enable the RS-485 input through an on-screen menu? Tried reversing the polarity on the RS-485? Is there a menu setting to change the baud rate of the RS-485? I think the Pelco protocol is 9600.

I just purchased Blue Iris for $ 50.00 that runs on a XP Pro box. For the price, I think it has been a good investment.

I tried adjusting the focus on the AirCam to improve focus. Even when connected direct to the camera, the video looks fuzzy. Mostly likely poor quality optics. Can't imagine why Ubiquiti would make a megapixel camera with such poor quality optics? Your able to record the rtsp using Exacq or just view?

Yes I agree with you. I think Ubiquiti might be trying to do too much for too little for only $100. My day job involves installing Axis cameras using Genetec NVR software. I'm just trying to installing something at home that is completely IP and PC based. Giving up features and quality is acceptable since my budget is limited. The AirCam / AirVision line from Ubiquiti appeared to be the answer but the NVR side is still certainly beta. I wonder how many have successfully got it to work? Naturally 99% of the postings in their support forum are from users with problems and not from those with success stories. I posted a question on their forum days ago and have not received a reply yet. I didn't see any pricing on the Luxriot site. Is this professional or consumer priced software?

Yes I have read your blog and found a lot of very useful information. So useful, I'm about to put the AirCam up for sale and move on to something that works. Ubiquiti very well may be able to get AirVision working better in the future but my need is sooner than later. An Atom based PC for recording video!? Wow! How many cameras? Frame rate? Resolution? Which software?

Found this thread from Oct 2011. Anyone able to get these cameras and NVR to work? Judging from the Ubiquiti forum, it still looks buggy. I bought an AirCam and set up the included NVR on a Kubuntu machine. Still unable to get decent playback video to work without crashing the viewer. The video from the camera is also fairly poor. But what should I have expected from a plastic lens? Now I'm looking at selling the AirCam and finding something more stable for a NVR. Any suggestions?

I tried a Sling Box on a LAN and could not get it to work. Even posted on their help forum and no one came to my rescue! If I remember right, it appeared the player was trying to find the encoder but couldn't find it on my LAN (5 port switch without internet access). When the player and encoder were then connected to each other via the built-in switch of my router, they would handshake and all was good. I just thought they needed to authenticate via Sling's server. Is your LAN isolated from the Internet?

I have a customer that wants to stream the output of a DVD player from one location to another over IP similar to a Sling Box. However the encoder and decoder will be on a LAN (wired or wireless) and will not be able to authenticate via a server like Sling Box. Needs to have stereo audio that is synced to the video. Anyone have experience in this area?

I have a customer that wants to send the output from a DVD player to a single remote location via ethernet. The decoder output will be viewed on a TV/monitor with composite video inputs and left right audio inputs. Needs to be mpeg4, stereo audio and not PC based but rather a stand alone encoder and decoder. Naturally the video and audio need to stay in sync. IP bandwidth is not an issue in this application. Anyone know of something that will work?

I installed a DVR for a customer in her office using DSL. At home she has Wild Blue internet satellite service which worked great this summer. Now she can't view the DVR. No changes have been made at her house since this summer. The DVR is viewable from my location using DSL so the DVR connection should be OK. The tech at Wild Blue says they don't block ports or IP ranges and nothing has changed in their system. Anyone else experience a "it worked before - now it don't" situation with Wild Blue? Randy

I'm looking for a single channel video and audio encoder that will stream IP. It needs to accept composite video and line level audio. Also need a compatible decoder that will output composite video and line level audio. The audio must also stay in sync with the video. The unit(s) size can not be rack or table top size but rather compact for mounting in an outdoor enclosure. I have found the Bosch Video Jet series but it doesn't look like they have a model with audio. Randy
