  1. i have a Swann NVR8-7200 NVR that i purchased from costco a few years back and from what I understand, it is a rebranded Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P. Should I be able to upgrade the firmware using the DS-7608NI-E2/8P firmware? I downloaded the latest firmware from here (the "DS-76xxNI-E1(E2)P/DS-76xxNI-E1(E2)P_USA_Firmware_V3.3.6_151229" one) and tried to update in iVMS-4200 but it results in an "Upgrading failed" message. For reference, this is what my swann reports in iVMS-4200 (iVMS-4200 version 2.5.0.3 build20160330 ): thanks in advance for any advice, -norm
  2. i haven't added an additional drive
  3. With 2.3.4 (130715) the cameras do work with the built in PoE switch (at least the 2 I have hooked up). I've got 2 cameras hooked up to the NVR and also plugged one of the NVR PoE ports back to my switch (I can see the cams listed in SADP). I tried to manually assign IPs to each camera to an IP in my 192.168.1.* subnet -- assigned them static IPs on my router, entered the same respective IPs on the cameras and then turned DHCP off on the cameras, but for some reason the cameras keep changing back to a 192.168.254.* IP (the IP that the NVR dishes out)... Did you experience this, too, or have any thoughts on why the manual assignement is getting overridden?
  4. Got the serial reset code from hikvision and got my NVR accessible again. Couldn't connect to the cams with 2.3.4 (130715) so I tried to downgrade via the web UI but it kept hanging when attempting to access the web UI (only a partial page would load and the NVR seemed to reboot since it would make the long beep after waiting a little bit). Eventually got the firmware downgraded to 2.2.5 (130507) done via iVMS-4200. Uninstalled the webcomponents on my computer, reinstalled it and was able to access the web UI again. I had a lorex cam (not updated to hik firmware yet) on port 1 of the NVR which wouldn't connect, even after changing the password on it from the lorex default 000000 to the hikvision default 12345. I decided to flash it to the hik v.5.0 firmware and made sure the password was updated to the hik default but still no luck (a hik v.5.0-flashed cam on port 2 connected fine). On a whim I unplugged it from port 1 and moved it to 3 and it connected. Left it at that, but need to connect the other cams to port 1 and see if it's something with the port, something with that particular cam, or maybe the 2.2.5 firmware.
  5. i haven't powered cycled it yet. I'll give it a try when I get home this evening & hook it up to my TV to see if the admin account is gone as you experienced. yeah, sucks for me to experience this as well, but it likely confirms that is wasn't a one-off fluke on your end that v2.3.4 (130715) borks the Lorex I already sent a serial reset code request to hikvisionusa with my S/N based on your other post, but my start date was today's date....will need to check if it changes to 1970-1-1 after a power cycle. what firmware version are you running now? BTW, did you ever try the firmware listed on the company that rhymes with belly's website? They have 2.3.3 130620 which hik europe doesn't list (DS-76xxNI-SE(P) USA Firmware_V2.3.3_130620.zip)
  6. i upgraded to 2.2.4 (130328) and 2.2.5 (130507) fine, but going to 2.3.4 (130715) changed the IP address of the NVR to 100.100.110.115 so I tried to change it in SADP but 123456 or 000000 for the password didn't work (tried to connect to it from within iVMS-4200 as well with no luck). Sounds like I need to get a serial/reset code at this point, or is there a way to downgrade the firmware in this state?
  7. ah ok, thanks for the clarification. i'll start with the 2.2.4 build 103328 first. If all goes well with that, i'll give 2.2.5 and 2.3.4 a try as well...curious to see if my PoE ports stop working in the later versions, too.
  8. when you say "It was the newer ones where I had issues," is there a newer version than the V2.3.4 build 130715 that you tried to flash? That's the latest I see on hikvision europe's download page.
  9. Has anyone else updated the firmware on their lorex NVR to the Hikvision version and not had issues with the PoE ports and/or require getting a serial reset code? JoeyJoey, did the PoE ports end up working on your Lorex NVR with the "Europe V2.3.4 build 130715" firmware? I'm just about to hook up all my Lorex cameras (i've flashed them individually to the hikvision 5.0 firmware and have been running a few independently on a separate PoE switch to config and aim them in preparation to plugging them all into the NVR) but want to be able to record at 3MP and the stock Lorex firmware doesn't allow that.
  10. yeah, i bought both the Swann and Lorex packages from Costco but decided the keep the Lorex since it was a better deal with 2 additional domes + $200 cheaper at the time. The only thing that kills me about the Lorex is that it didn't come with rack mount ears (the Swann did) and I'm having a hell of a time finding rack ears for it since Lorex doesn't sell them and Hikvision USA doesn't sell direct to consumer. That said, I think the NVRs are a little different. I read in another post here someone suggesting that the Swann NVR was possibly a Hikvision DS-7608NI-SP in a different case, while the Lorex NVR is a DS-7608NI-SE/8P. At first glance the main differences i spotted was the Swann appears to have alarm in/out where the Lorex doesn't (and the swann comes with the rack mount ears for those that intend to rack mount their NVR -- too bad the NVRs aren't the same width otherwise I'd try to buy the rack ears from swann)
  11. http://dashcamtalk.com/ is dedicated to all things dash cam related. After some reading of their reviews, I purchased a TioTech GT300W for roughly $100, which is an "unbranded" DOD LS300W (records 1080p @ 30fps, 140 degree FoV, records to microSD). Video quality is pretty good. Just need to figure out how to hardwire it to the car now to get rid of the ridiculously long cig charger cable.
  12. Anyone know where I could purchase rack ears for this Lorex NVR (445mm/17.5" wide) so that I can mount it on a 19" rack? The Swann version from Costco came with rack ears but the Lorex version didn't, I assume in a money saving move. I called Hikvision and they said that I'd have to call the distributor that I purchased from since they don't sell direct. I emailed Lorex and they said they don't sell the rack ears. Are there any Hikvision distributors in the US that sells direct to consumer?
  13. After some more messing around, apparently you can I fiddled some more and I ended up creating an "encoding channel" group and added the cams attached to the NVR to that group. I only have 2 cams connected to the NVR to test out, and both appeared in iVMS. I was planning on mounting the NVR in my garage rack where I have my network switches/punchdown/etc. & just remotely stream/control the NVR, and it looks like I'll be able to do that
  14. here are some photos of the Lorex bundle compared to the Swann bundle. The bullets on the Lorex don't look like the ones in the photos on Costco's site and seem to be the Hikvision DS-2CD2032. The Swann NVR's rear on top, Lorex on bottom The Lorex's dome camera The Swann NVR is shorter width-wise, but slightly deeper than the Lorex. The Swann came with rack mount brackets, but the Lorex didn't. They both sound similarly loud, but the hard drive on the Lorex (both are 2TB) is marginally louder. This will stay in the garage so not a bother for me, but I wouldn't place it in a home theater rack, etc. since it's noticeable (kind of like a medium loud PC). I've been trying to get the cameras to appear in the hikvision iVMS-4200, but haven't been able to figure it out. Both NVRs will connect to iVMS and I can remotely configure them through iVMS, but does anyone know how to get the cameras attached to the NVR to appear in the iVMS-4200 (assuming that is possible)?
  15. i ordered this last Friday when it was still $1299, but got credited for the difference when I saw that it went on sale on Monday I ordered the Costco Swann NVR+4 bullet bundle a week earlier and have that sitting in the garage. The Lorex arrives Friday so I get to play with the both of them and decide which one to keep (and replace my Logitech Alert system)
  16. Have you tried to see if the Hikvision iVMS software will connect to the NVR? It would be nice to be able to view/configure it from my desktop. I ended up ordering the Lorex, too, so I'll have both the Swann and Lorex Costco NVR bundles delivered next week to pay around and compare with.
  17. For those that purchased the Lorex NVR from Costco, is this the same system you got? Lorex 8 Channel Full HD Real-Time PoE NVR Security System with 2TB Hard Drive and 6 1080p IP Cameras http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-Full-HD-Real-Time-PoE-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-6-1080p-IP-Cameras.product.100048586.html It just appeared in their online store in the last day or two (7/17/2013). I just ordered the Swann NVR with 4 cams, but the Lorex package seems like a better deal for $100 more since it's got 4 bullets + 2 domes (which apparently are 3MP domes) -- from the research I've done here, I believe these 2 Swann and Lorex systems sold at Costco are both just rebranded Hikvision products, but not sure if the Lorex comes with the DS-2CD2032 bullets like the Swann apparently does? The cameras from the stock photo on that Costco page don't appear to be the Hikvision DS-2CD2032 (at least the outer shell isn't the same), but if you look at the product on Lorex's site and their spec sheets, other variations of that NVR + cam bundle has what appear to be (externally) Hikvision DS-2CD2032 cams. On the costco page (listed as model LNR282C6B at the bottom): On the lorex website for LNR282C6B: On the lorex website LNR282C4B, which seems to be the same NVR bundle that comes with no domes and 4 bullets that (externally) look like the DS-2CD2032: Does anyone know who makes the bullets in the Costco Lorex system, which don't externally look like the Hikvision DS-2CD2032? The mount looks similar, so maybe they are Hikvision DS-2CD2032 bullets, but I don't see a similarly shaped bullet on their website. Could they just be in a slightly different body but with the same internals? thanks
  18. ah ok. that's a bummer but i guess I can just mount it on a 1U shelf
  19. Have any of you with the Swann NVR tried using Hikvision's iVMS-4000 or iVMS-4200 to connect to it (since you can connect to the cams directly using iVMS)? http://www.hikvision.com/en/us/products.asp?cid=50300 I bought the Swann 2 bullet pack from costco, then decided yesterday to just order the NVR+4 bullets. It would be great to be able to connect to the NVR from my windows desktop and control/configure/replay/etc. Also, does anyone know if the Costco Swann NVR+4 bullet package comes with rack mount adapters for the NVR? It looks like a 1U rack-mountable size and I know that the Hikvision NVRs are listed as rack-mountable
  20. Do any of you have the Q-See QC808 8 channel NVR? I was looking at either that or the QC804 (4 channel) From their specs, the QC808 does 15fps with ( 1080p cameras -- does anyone know if I only have (4) 1080p cameras connected to it, will it do 30fps like the QC804? I know there was an older thread here with some speculation that the 804 & 808 might be the same hardware underneath. The price for the 808 is ironically enough cheaper than the 804 at amazon. I only plan on having (3) 1080p cameras hooked up for the time being, but would like the flexibility of adding up to 5 or 6 in the future. QC808 http://www.q-see.com/products/product_description.php?cId=140&pId=274&id=140&pid=114 QC804 http://www.q-see.com/products/product_description.php?cId=139&pId=273&id=139&pid=114 thanks
  21. Hi folks, first post here. I've got an existing Logitech Alert system consisting of 3 cameras (2x Alert 700e + 1x Alert 700n). All 3 cameras are used outdoors, all connected via PoE. The 700n is an indoor camera but is used above my front door which is enclosed from any inclement weather. I use the Alert software which I run 24/7 on my desktop PC and have the videos backed up to a NAS. The big drawback with this system is that the video resolution (0.7 megapixel) & FPS (15fps max) is lacking. I don't say that just because I mindlessly want more megapixels & fps...I say it because I had someone drive up my driveway, park, and take a package from my front porch. I have video of the entire theft, BUT the resolution/fps is not good enough to make out the front license plate. Would have been a slam dunk if I could make out the plate That said, I'd like to replace the entire system with higher resolution & higher FPS cameras. Are there IP/PoE cameras in the sub-$300/ea price range that I should consider? I see that the ACTi D32 is $266 from B&H which seems to fit what i'm looking for, except that it doesn't have audio, which I could probably live without. I'm basically looking for the following - sub-$300/ea - IP camera (PoE) - fixed lens - motion detection - min. 30 fps at 1920 x 1080 (2.1 MP) - IR/night mode - software that I can run on my PC or Mac to watch/download streams - (nice to have) audio (1 way) - (nice to have) on board memory (via SD/microSD card) - (nice to have) mobile app to view remotely thanks in advance for any recommendations!
  22. i ended up ordering a pair of the swann cameras yesterday as well after reading through one of the threads here. Ordered a few Acti 3MP bullet cams to evaluate as well. Are you using a NVR or something like blue iris for the swann cameras? I like the logitech alert desktop software, but not sure if i want to build a dedicated machine for blue iris, or give a try at a NVR, possibly from swann, q-see or lorex.
