Does anyone know of or recommend any cameras and/or housings for paint booth applications? It needs to be explosion proof meaning that it won't ignite the paint and other chemical fumes. I searched for explosion proof cameras, but I get the feeling that the ones I found are marketing a camera that is supposed to be indestructible not necessarily for preventing explosions.

We are looking to possibly move the DVR to another location. We have a GV-1480 DVI combo card. At the moment we aren't using any Audio channels, just video. Instead of purchasing and running 16 new BNC patch cables, is it possible to use a DVI cable to extend the video from the card to the Geovision DVI to BNC adapter without any video degradation?

Thanks for the mounds of information. Since this topic was last discussed the business has taken a different route that may eliminate the need to go with IP based cameras and will allow the Analog cameras to "make due" until it's time to a full system upgrade.

I have an older GV-1480 and I am currently running 8.12. We are looking to add more cameras and I was looking to go the IP route. Is it possible to upgrade to 8.5 on the older cards so we can take advantage of the IP hybrid capabilities in 8.5?

I stand corrected, this machine hasn't been updated. I really thought it was. It's a Core2 @ 2.4ghz. It might be time for an upgrade. I could try and run 8.5, but I'm an hour away from the machine and don't really need the hassle of fighting it if resources become an issue down the road. Thanks for all of your input!

Thanks for the fast reply!! From context of other threads I didn't think there would be hardware compatibility issues but wanted to double check. The PC should be ok, but I will double check the "minimum requirements" for 8.5. We upgraded the system not too long ago and I made sure to build a quality machine that fax exceeded the minimum requirements.

Hello all. We currently have a system that has what I believe are Kodicom knock-offs and I am going to order some Geovision cards from their recommended distributors. Are the combo cards really that necessary? We do not need, nor will we probably use the audio portion of the cards. Will I get enough video quality with the GV-800? I noticed that the GV-1480 has a higher FPS rating than the GV-800. Is it that a big deal? What kind of FPS should I at least try to have for quality playback? We will be running 16 cameras. This is a little off topic. The cards we currently have also have a RCA port that is used for an external screen (besides the computer monitor). We have it going to a TV in one of our offices for live viewing. Is there an add on card or other option that will allow us to continue to do this with the Geovision cards? Thanks for your help!

I was wondering if any of you have had luck securing the actual video files on the hard drive. Have any of you found a way to keep a malicious user from going into the store directory and deleting the video files? You can secure the software by having auto log out and login as a user with no access rights. But that doesn't prevent someone from getting on to the main system and messing with the video files. I am sure I am missing something. Thanks for your help!

What do you guy's recommend for rg-59 connectors (supplier/brand/type)? We have some 2 piece crimp on ends and the connections are really crappy. On some of the ends if you wiggle the wire the video cuts out. I have checked and rechecked the shielding, ground and solid copper wire and see no problems. I am fairly certain the connectors my friend gave me are probably some cheap pieces of garbage.

Hello everyone, I finally got out GV-1480 installed this past weekend but because of some other issues I ended up having to head home early (125 miles away) without spending much time configuring it. I do have VNC access to the machine but nothing else remote setup yet. I have 12 cameras connected currently. The night I connected the cameras I noticed that some of the cameras had a little noise when the lights were off (not the greatest cameras so I am sure I need to change some of the settings) the noise was triggering the motion detection. So I turned down the sensitivity for those cameras till I can look into the settings on the box cameras. Last night (in 10 hours) the system used over 18gb. I have the video source settings at NTSC_M and 320x240. I believe the compression is set at MPEG4 ASP. I was hoping to go with a higher resolution, but maybe I shouldn't. Are these settings what everyone else uses? I am also thinking that there maybe some issues with two of my dome cameras at night. There wasn't too much visible noise or motion but the motion detection seemed to be recording very frequently even at the low sensitivity settings. I am a newbie with GeoVision but I didn't think it would use up 18 gig in 10 hours. I may have to disable motion detection on those cameras till I can get back to look into why it is sensing motion. I guess in a summary with my long post. Are my settings set at where most of you set your settings? Thanks!

Thanks Andy. I will try upgrading when I am back this weekend. I will also try the format change. I noticed that it had smaller file sizes while cruising around here. As far as night vision cameras. I think that would be a bit excessive for the area. It is in the entry of the business that gets quite a bit of light from the main sales area (security light is on 24/7). I really think it has something to do with the camera and not the night vision. I have two identical dome cameras installed in different areas and they both have noise (not much but some) when the lights in that area is off. However the box cameras in those areas don't trigger the motion detector with any noise.

I currently don't have the need for these add ons but they may be needed. 1.) You are offering the D-Type (DB15) connectors, will you be offering the DVI type connector? 2.) For those with audio in, will you be offering RCA connections? Maybe put the RCA connector just below the BNC connector. Then put the DB15 connector for the audio just below the video DB15 connector. For my personal benefit, do you have the dimensions of this unit? I assume you built them to 1U specifications since they are for rack mounts, correct? Any preliminary cost numbers? I like it. It looks very professional. It sure would beat all of the double/single gang holes in the wall for wall plates.

Hello, I have our Kodicom 4400 (I believe) pc cards running in our system (XP Pro). When I try to access WebDVR through our local network it works just fine. Outside of our network I am having issues. I have tried accessing it through DynDNS and strictly the IP with no luck. I can get the login page but once I try to login I get a "Network Fail" prompt. opened port 80 on the router. Didn't work. I put the Machine on DMZ didn't work. I switched the remote admin port for the router from 8080 to 8082 didn't work. Made sure 8081 is open, it is.I made sure the windows firewall was off, it's off. No other security software installed on the machine. I have seen this issue elsewhere on the board, but they seemed to be old threads without answers. Any ideas? I

Thanks for the input! I am just going to go with the Combo Card. That way I am not having to search for this and that, plus with a newbie like me I should get my foot in the door before trying to use different modules. A little off topic, can anyone tell me what type of input connector is on the DVI cables on the GV-1480, are they female like the GV-800? Thanks again. It is nice to get courteous professional help. Don't see that much anymore!

Thanks! That helps. -
Thanks Rory. It looks like I have a lot to learn.

I looked into what you mentioned. To be honest I don't entirely understand the process (I'm a newbie). I found some items that seemed to resemble what you discussed. Looking at the prices of what I found I am noticing that by the time I add the loop through and add the mux I am talking nearly the same cost as going with the GV-1240 and GV-1480, correct? Also, am I able to specify which cameras get shown on the TV out port through the software? The Kodicom software allowed us to rotate between multiple cameras with a delay that we could also set.

I had a friend that put an order in for a bunch of DVR Cards. They seemed to work fine for awhile. Well now I am having issues left and right. I think it is a combo of software and hardware. I look into it and it looks like the cards are Kodicom knock-offs. I have read A LOT lately on cards and cameras and I am thinking that GeoVision is the way to go. I don't want to get burned again so I was wondering if someone knew of a list of GeoVision Authorized Resellers. I looked around their website without much and haven't received a reply to an email I sent them. One of my suppliers that I use for my networking products carries GeoVision. The problem there is only about half of their products are the real deal and not Chinese knock-offs. So I don't want to get burned by them. Their images match the ones from the GeoVision site, but almost too perfectly which leads me to believe that is where the image came from. I know with the policy of the forums you can't post links to companies here so I understand. If someone would like to email me or PM me some links to some Authorized resellers I would appreciate it. I am tired of digging through so many websites wondering if I would really be getting the real deal or not. Insight from those who know would be great! Thanks!!!

We currently have 11 cameras (520 lines) to the DVR. Ranging from 6ft away to 150ft, I ran RG-59 simease cable to all cameras. We might possibly go to wireless cameras/ip cameras in the future because we want some cameras on our lot (we are a trailer dealer). I am not sure if true Geo, Kodicom or Avermedia would support that. I had myself set to needing two machines, or two sets of software running to incorporate the wireless/ip when the time came. Edit: I should add to clarify that we will keep the current 11 cameras we have and add the wireless/ip cameras to our network. We don't really have PTZ or plan to use it. Remote viewing (web based) is a bonus, remote management would be nice but not required (can use VNC/RDP). We currently have P4 3.0ghz and 1gb of ram (can upgrade). Two 200gig drives (Raid 0) with 180gig partitioned for the video store. I can always add another drive for the OS so we get the full 200gig for store. I was looking at the Geo GV-800, but I am open for suggestions. What would you recommend? I can give you other info on our setup if it helps. Thanks.

Maybe I am missing it, but is there a thread or article where people are reccommending cameras of all types (Hi Res Indoor and Outdoor, Standard Res, Dome, PTZ Dome, Bullet, Wireless/IP, etc.). I have searched but I only come across where there is one camera here and there that is reccomended. I am really curious to see what you larger installers (i.e. rory) use when you do an installation for a client. We have some Chinese cameras that supposedly have Sony chips and are520 lines, but I just don't think they are as good as good as they could be. I don't have the ability to compare them side to side, but I really think these lack in quality when I compare them to some 480 line Vicon cameras I have seen. I also think some of the quality issue comes from what I believe are knock off cards in our DVR. So naturally, I am also curious to see what you reccomend for DVR's and DVR Cards.

I know quite a few people at our ISP. The way it sounds they have no plans to do so, especially for their business accounts (which we have) so I don't forsee any issues there. I think the whole problem is the remote router admin was on 8080 and I switched it to 8082 since my port listings in my software didn't show 8082 being used for the software. It works fine now, after I switched the router admin port to 8091.
-
I never tested that. I would assume I could ping the machine because it was responding to the HTTP requests since it loaded the page. It turns out switching my remote admin port for the router to 8091 allowed WebDVR to function. I don't know why the router would block traffic to the DVR since the Kodicom ports didn't show 8082 as being used. I can now easily access the DVR with it on DMZ through WebDVR and DigiNet Remote. Later today when I get some time I am going to take the DVR off of DMZ and start allowing access to it port by port. I will report back with the experience had with certain ports. It won't be entirely accurate since I am not using PTZ or audio, but for the average user it should help. Thanks for the reply.
