First off,i don't know if this is the right place to place this but here goes. i have a contractor that wants to lease 2 cameras from me to watch over a construction site next to the Condo unit i am doing for him, (for about 5 to 7 months)does anyone have a lease for this or could help me make one up?

New hard drive and Geovision system now all messed up!
Rebco replied to Arockerdude's topic in Geovision
this is what i do always partion the drive to you have 10 gigs for the operating system and the rest for video in case this happens again, you can just reinstall the os and geovision and not loose the video. haven't tryed anything else since this works for me. -
hi rayh, just wanted to give you a heads up about that system, had a client call me out for an estimate on a system for a system for a little bar he owned, he told me my quote was to expensive and went and bought that system, needless to say, i am going to install my system there next week, i can only tell you the truth is that quote" You get what you pay for" is very true, trust me alot of my money went to replacing cheap cameras & DVRs, besides computer parts are cheaper now.

thank you, for the reply, those are some good points i haven't looked at. i found out the hard way that when you buy vandal proof domes you have to make sure you get the 3 axis ones.

Ok I have a friend (contractor) he's wants a system so his condos front and back front is 70 ft and back is 120ft sides i dont have to worry about but its in a not so nice area, can anyone suggest a good tamperproof domes, that i will get a good picture, I tryed to get him to get enclosers with box cameras but he said the last CCTV installed that did the last building told him to stay away from those, i don't know why. Also should i tell him he should really get a camera in the parking lot entrance just in case?

i had the same thing happen to me, i just formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS and the geo vision software. can you run scandisk? -
Most cameras come with silica gell in the housing,(my experience) but i don't think a change of climate from Asia to US would do it, atleast not that much. i had a 4 camera setup in a warehouse and i had to go there everyweek to clean up the misting i just finally got tired of it, bought 4 new cameras and put them up never had a problem again. it was a expensive lesson, but one i will not forget.

Rory That is exactly what happened to me got a call went to the client, when i get uo on the ladder look into the camera and theres water in there. the camera was still working but fried the IRs.

To Virus scan Or Not to Virus scan
Rebco posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ok, i had a friend make me a real nice DVR the other day i went to pick it up and he didn't have the Norton Virus scan installed, so i asked him wuat was up and he told me most of his CCTV installers don't put virus scan on there machines, so here is the question do i put it in ? and what are the Pros and Cons of each? -
ye that might be it but going to service a couple of clients every month doesn't look to good on business. Mine were cheap cameras with alot of IRs, replaced them with better brand cameras and the problem went away.

To Virus scan Or Not to Virus scan

is there a way to set the AVG to not scan everyday or everytime i turn on the computer? -
I am finally getting into using Raid in my DVRs, Slowly I'm learning the hard way. I use to use 2 hard drives 1 (10gb) for the operating system and a 500 or 750 for the video, But now everyone is telling me to use a Raid system (computer builders I know) i am thinking of 2- 500 gb hard drives using raid 0 with a 10 gig partion for the operating system, but would like to know your (the forum) thoughts on the subject and yes i know the difference in the type of arrays. Also i put this topic here because i just use geovision cards. Thank You

It is a stand alone DVR but will be conected to the Internet. Just for everyone help, i was a "robot" Installer i would do what ever my boss just said, now i am trying this business on my own so any help with anything is greatful. Also when you say the DVR is set up the right way can you elaborate on that. Please -
i have a friend that builds computers for gamers and he uses a smog machine to see the airflow in the case, a little top much for me but i use his computers for some of my clents and never had a complaint or overheating issue.

I guess i just have to go with what the customer wants either more record time or video back up
-
I don't think it has much to do with the weather(a least not in my case) I put 4 of these 48 ir cameras in a 10,000 sqft warehouse inside and still had that problem. It felt like oil list on the lens when i tryed to clean it. One huge problem i had with these cameras were that the back seal sor the wiring was leaking.
-
i Had the same thing happen to me. I could only figure it was the irs making to much heat on the o-rings (does it feel or look like an oily mist?) Back to the supplier and he told me i was the only one that had these problems, after the second time it happened with me climbing up and down taking it to my supplier in another state i told him just give me store credit and he did and i bought a better brand of camera. please post if you figure it out.

HI Rory from my experience with building my own DVRs, The more drive you have the more heat, I usuall put a fan in front of the drives (in my case 2 500's ) and then another at the back of the case and havent and haven't had a problem yet, But now that i am talking about it i will probably have a call today.
