The USB is usually COM3 so make sure your using that. I've used the USB version and it's worked flawlessly for me. You should be able to see it in device manager.

Vista - any IP camera software or DVR cards that support

Geovision. -
Do you have a camera you can test locally to the machine. I think this would help you a lot. I have used PTZ's with plenty of Geo systems and it's usually been an installer error for them not working. Wrong address, etc.. That's why it's helpful to know how to get them working or have them working before you install them. Things to keep in mind: - Proper com port (also are you using MB's serial port or a USB RS485?) - Make sure of is you didn't cross the wires for the RS485 control. - PTZ ID is set properly. I know some of the domes we've used would be set to 1 but Geo would control them as 0. - Proper Baud rate settings. Usually displayed when the camera boots up. - Mapped to proper camera. Not sure what else there is. You seem to have most of it covered.

Secureconcepts, the issue is only on the final release of 8.2 as you know. I read that you got the files from Andy but they didn't help. Did you reboot after copying them over? It did fix the probem for me but only from Gview V2 as far as I've tested.

This is a legit problem, I had the EXACT same problems from my systems. Andy from Geovision sent me some files that fixed the problem with the Mobile Gview programs and now they don't crash anymore. PM him and he can send them to you too.

Avermedia Versus Geovision, my personal review.....
501 posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
We have been installing Geovision for years and like it very much but recently I ordered and tested out an Avermedia Software compression card and though I would share my thoughts. I am just going to list all the pros that i found with each system. The only thing not taken into account was frame rate because software, clarity and features are the same for all software. Geovision Pros - Video Quality slightly higher in my opinion, but very close - Much better playback system for quickly gettign to times. I like the preview still shot when you click a time in the viewlog. - Auto AGC is a nice feature for video controls - More "cool" features like facial recognition, missing object, etc... - Cleaner main screen layout for people with limited pc or computer knowledge imo. - Multivew and main system can fit wide screen monitors better and have more resolution choices. - Multiview is better laid out then avers basic remote software - Object search is great - 10 Camera view - Smart record feature really helps on ebtry level cards. Avermedia Pros - Compact mode is nice for live viewing - Intelligent search still works ok - Remote Console is great - The zoom in feature on the playback is like on CSI, where you draw a box and it zooms in, which is "cool". Too bad when you zoom in 50 times, it doesn't just become instantly cleared up , even after the fact like on TV . - I liked the quick access to playback or the main system by the button in the bottom right corner. - You can move camera placement around in the live view. All in all I like the card and the software and look forward to getting the 32 Channel-960 fps in D1 system up and running! I'll see if I can get some screen caps when it's done! -
That's a pretty big error on Geo's part if you can't import older host.ini files. I see a patch coming soon. This is why they should let folks like us test some of the earlier versions. I have discovered 2 bugs before this that weren't known. I also don't like the little Geovision logo when you log onto the multiview, but not a big deal.

Check out Rory's "TweaK" program, its great for speeding up systems and stopping un-necessary services.

With the large number of Blackberyy users out there, I think you should really develop a program that will allow the cameras to be viewed by a Black berry.
-
I believe it was 8.2.00. Can you Pm a link to a release version? Thanks Andy.

I also cannot import my host file of about 80 locations into the new multiview. I don't really feel like inputting them all back in again. Geo should really fix this! It will affect thousands of people. I setup multiview on another PC and it's working good but my main office PC still won't run 8.2 (although it did at first). I uninstalled, deleted, etc... but it still just sends the CPU to %100 usage and never loads up. Considering it took like 10 months for this release, you'd think we wouldn't be finding bugs within an hour of installing. I hope they are reading these forums too.

Come on guys post the link for all of us who have nothing better to do then wait for the new version to come out. Levi.

No, you can't integrate a webcam on another PC (Or the same PC for that matter) with Geovision as far as I know.
-
Where did you see it? I looked but couldn't find a download link anywhere.
-
Switching to Geo H.264 would double to triple your recording time. Personally I don't see a huge difference in quality.
-
Could you please post some sample video? That would be great!

I have an Avermedia 3000 card in the box. Only used to test before I ordered a 6480 express card. It worked great. $100 and it's yours.

Buying a GV600-4 Port card or an Avermedia 3000 - 4 port card will alleviate a LOT of wasted time trying make low end usb capture devices and mix-matched software work. Both are relativley inexpensive, allow upgrading (which once you have 1 camera, you'll probably want to do), and come with professional software. Save yourself the stress.

GV-net PTZ question & Geovision card type question
501 replied to highspeedphysics's topic in Geovision
All of the cameras will tie into the same GVnet card and each camera will be given it's own ID address (Controled by software in the camera or dip switches). You can also "Daisy Chain" the RS485 from one cam to the next. I think you will probably be quite happy with the 800 card, it's a good product. -
I am trying to test out an Axis 207mw with an avermedia system and I'm having some troubles. I try to setup cam one as an IP cam, I eneter the IP, ports, user name and pw and it doesn't fail to connect, but it doesn't show any video. I've redced the res down to 320x240 with no luck. What is thr trick?

Intel Brand boards work well.

Did a new install yesterday, GV600-16 with 7 cameras. Got everything finished, live view looked fine. Went to the recording and it maxed out on all cameras at 2fps each...... VERY choppy. System is set for motion, and smart record, and I tried with all different video sources (320,640, etc). Looked at the recording more closely and the first cam that got hooked up looked fine, but with more then one, it got crazy choppy. So we unplugged all cams, and plugged just one in..... picture is great and we counted the frames and it was 30 for the cam. Plugged in another cam and frames dropped to about 5 and it would then even miss frames for 1/2 a sec. The weird thing is the live view is perfect. So software and drivers were re-installed, card was moved to another PCI slot and all setting were played around with but it seems to be either the card or the PC. Ideas? Anyone experience his? P.S. I know the 600 is only 30fps, but this video looked like 1970's time lapse, just terrible, not standard with a 600 which we rarely use.

I agree, the cameras are too expensive for just IP if they are not megapixel. The plus side is that in the future, Megapixel upgrades would be easy.
