Ya, sometimes it's hard to go to do a quote to install cameras for the local drugstore or car wash, and tell them they need 6 or 8 upper end Bosch Cameras, Bosch DVR, etc... when they have a budget in mind of of like $4k for a complete camera system installed. OEM may not be as good, but it definitley has it's place and not every customer has large pockets like Rory said.

Hey Rory, do you really find the difference in video quality is that big? Personally, I've used it a lot and haven't really noticed any difference. I've taken jpg's from both codecs to compare and there wasn't a major noticeable difference, especially when you consider you get 2 to 3 times the recording time. What did you find was the issue with it, just too pixelated or blurry? What codecs do others use?

IP Cameras at a Glance

The problem with having EVERYTHING internet based is a very smart theif could just cut your cable or telephone lines (providing your internet), and poof, no cameras recording. The main server may notify someone but by then it might be too late. Also, you still have routers, switches and cameras that could go down too. -
That does show just how effective the Geo H.264 compression codec is in terms of size.
-
Haha, I've forgotten to click the little hand before too to apply to all cameras. Cheers.
-
I think the problem is you are trying to see too much with one camera. If you want the face of the customer and the till, move the camera closer and/or switch to a narrower lens like a 6mm or 8 mm. I think this would help alot.
-
Are you definitley using the same compression and motion settings? I find the Geo H.264 gives a LOT of recording time, so perhaps this is different. Other then that, it should be about the same.

Like Rory, am building a system right now and was planning on using the 480 PCI Express instead of standard PCI in hopes of better frame rates, but now I guess I'll have to reconsider. Hmmm, does the 2008 card do 640x480 (not the de-interlaced) at 30fps?
-
I think Rory is betting that he will also get better framerates with the pci express card because of fater data transfer rates. Avermedia's PCI express cards do D1 at 480fps with software compression so it would make sense that the GV-1480 PCI Express could do close.

Any Time & Atendance system that can output to a serial printer would work with Geovision too with the GV-Data Capture usually used for POS systems.
-
if you integrate with an access control system, then you can do this through a prouct like the Geovision Weigand capture. perhpas you could upsell the customer to an acessc ontrol system too.

Does anyone recognize this dvr software interface?
501 replied to kao's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yup, 32 "cheap" cameras probably cost them $30 each for a total of $900. Pc is maybe $700 and cards are like $1000 for around $3k total. $5k seems like a good profit when you look at it this way. -

Geo's Data Capture and software is second to none. if it works with your Ruby, look no further. -
Are you using the built in motion detection or are you using contacts on the door through a GV-I/O? I think the only way to do it is with the I/O... at least acurately.

I installed a patch for version j of the software, but still no luck. I then took a look at the list of supported cameras, and the nv3000 card wasn't listed anymore, only he NV5000, so I bet it has something to do with this.
-
I have version 7.1.0.0057g and it is an NVR3000 system.
-
We have hundreds in the field, it's a very reliable and good quality product, just a but pricey compared to the alternatives.
-
I tried both the motion Jpeg and the mpeg 4 with no luck. I can view the camera from IE from the DVR but can't log in from the Aver software and just assume I must be missing something.

cheap outdoor housing for Axis 207w
501 replied to metafizx's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I though CMOS cams werent sensitive to IR light. -
Make sure you have all the ports forwarded (Data ports is where I would look). I'd make sure all of the following are forwarded: Webcam Http – 81 Command – 4550 Data – 5550 Audio – 6550 Mobile Phone – 8866 Mobile Playback – 5511 Control Center Command – 3388 Data – 5611 Log – 5552 (Remote Viewlog)

Well done Rory and CollinR, Thanks! There is a setting under the "Video/Image Settings" under "advanced" where you choose low light behavior. It had a choice of frame rate, picture quality or none. I changed it to none and now it's much smoother. Thanks guys. The room the cam is in has a LOT of light, so I just assumed it had nothing to do with this.

I picked up an Axis 207MW a couple weeks ago on the advice of another board member. The quality of a static image is superb and the wifi feature is great. The problem I am finding is that the video is very blurry when there is movement. If someone walks past the camera, they are essentially un-recognizable until they stop for a second. Is this normal? I have only used it with the axis software, but I assume once I bring it into a Geo DVR (hopefully soon) or Avermedia, that the results would be better. What have others experienced with this camera?

I know it's not related to lighting because it happens in a bright room or dimly lit room. I tested it last night with both the wired and wireless connection and had it plugged directly into my router where my monitoring PC is connected so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue. I also tried both Mjpeg and Mpeg4 and no matter what, motion causes it to be blurry. I can post a link to the camera or perhaps some video clips or I can email the clips as well. It puzzling, the camera's resolution is great but if you can't have motion on it, it kind of defeats the purpose. Ideas? Everyone who sees it are very impressed until there is motion.

All you have to do is double click on a line of the raw text and it will instantly playback the associated file, it's great. Then if you click advance search, it takes you right back to the same spot in the pos logs to continue looking at other transactions.
