If your talking about the POS live view for remote viewing, once you open it, you have to wait until transactions take place before they will show up. To see past transactions remotely, go to the sing camera "Remote Playback", choose the "Advances Search", then "Data Query", then "Pos Data" the pick what till you'd like to look at transactions for.

Network Infrastructure for 16 IP Cameras?
501 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We are looking at doing more IP camera installs and I wanted to know what type of Infrastructure is necessary for 16 Megapixel IP cameras? If we run new Cat5 To each Camera and then wire them all back to a 24 Port switch, into which the NVR will be plugged in, should we be ok? I hear a lot about bandwidth issues and I'd like to know how to avoide them. Also, is there any advantage to NOT using POE or is it the way to go? Thanks. -
Network Infrastructure for 16 IP Cameras?
501 replied to 501's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For Gigabit, I was always under the impression that you neeed to use Cat6 cable or Gigabit will not work, and that it will NOT work with standard Cat5e cable. Is this true? -
So the word from my supplier is Geo will be introducing NV software for IP & Megapixel IP cameras. This software will be able to be run alone or in conjunction with the GV cards. So, if you have a GV800-16, you can purchase a licence for 4, 8, or 16 IP cameras and then add that on top of the existing 16 cameras for a total of 20 to 32. Is this expensive? In my opinion, Yes, I heard an extra $1k for another 16 IP cams. What's also interesting is, if you buy Geovision brand Megapixel IP Cameras, the licence is about 1/3 the price, but you still have to buy it. WHY does GEO have to try to charge for EVERY little thing? Avermedia supports way more cams, and it is already included free! Geo has a lot of competition out there, and over charging for everything is getting a bit tiring. On a side note, I tried to order an Axis 207 MWP and they told me it's been discontinued. Anyone else heard this?

If you are going with IP cams, the IP cam does the compression at the cameras, plus the 7000 is hardware compression, so it doesn't use very much CPU. I definitley think you could use a Dual Core or Core2Duo processor. And 2 or 3 cams isn't much at all. Save your $$$.

So far the system seems decent, but when we hooked up all 32 cams, the turbo button dissappeared and we are finding the video a bit choppy. May try calling tech support, not sure yet. Overall, its good, but I think the Megapixel cams will make the biggest difference.

Why must the now charge for every new feature? I guess they are trying hard to make as much money off S/W alone since their Hw card sales will eventually drop off but introducing new features and then making every existing customer have to pay for it is a joke. It wouldn't be so bad if their cards were in expensive but they are in fact some of the most expensive. I don't think geo reads this board but I personally don't like all of the xtra charges they are adding on and all of the stupid USB keys that will be necessary. Unhappy customers have more choices then ever, ie Avermedia who doesn't charge extra for any of there extra features.

They may only be a software company, but they still sell hardware and lots of it at the highest prices around. I really like Geo products, don't get me wrong, and I have installed hundreds of their systems, it would just be nice if they didn't have to charge for everything. With Megapixel IP cams, software is no longer responsible for video quality since the compression is done at the camera so to me, that makes many other manufacturers more appealing, since that is one thing I've liked about Geo. Time will tell, but I think more loyalty to their existing resellers (ie. ability to add megapixel IP cams, upgrades, etc..) would be a good thing.

Install is in closet....What am I giving up?
501 replied to BWSmith's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The Avermedia 7000H will work great via LAN, so this should work out great (That's how I have my system running at home too). You can control all spects of the system via the remote console software. -
Software to control both IP cameras and analog cameras
501 replied to briarwood's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Avermedia would work too, and you can have a combination of 32 cameras in one DVR using both Analog and Megapixel IP technology. -
New to CCTV and my first large customer needs 20 Cam System
501 replied to ericr1's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yup, I just built that system for a customer and it seems to work pretty good. It will handle up to 32 cameras at 640X480 in real time so it should work fine for whatever you need. DWG can build it for you (one of the Advertisers on this board) -

Geovision will do 16 cameras max per system so you will need to use 2 DVR's to accomplish this. -
SkyVision, NetVision, HikVision .. WhichVision?
501 replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Good post Rory. It seems that the resellers are quick to reply to questions with sales propganda but it doesn't seem to many people post actual experience with the systems. I have used ILDVR (Hikvision cards) and didn't care for the software at all. Quality was OK but I had much higher expectations for Hardware compression cards. -
Geovision Gv-800 vs Avermedia NV5000
501 replied to topspin's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
In my opinion, Geo has a little better image quality and the software is more robust but both are good. Geo will have IP support in the near future (If they still want a share of the market anyways), but Avermedia already supports it. Both are easy to use. -
Avermedia supports POS integration, analog and IP cameras.

A few notes on my first try at a municpal wireless system

Please post the pics, sounds like a very interesting project, thanks for the tips. -
It's probably due to the level of sensitivity on the motion detection. Try setting them to 8 and adjust the pre-record for less frames per second and more frames in total for longer pre-recording time.

I have installed Mag Locks but I am working on a job that requires Electric strikes into a hollow metal framed door. These will be the first I have done. Are these difficult to do? Can anyone offer some advice, tip, links or general help with Strike installations? Thanks.

Got it figured out. The Turbo button doesn't appear until you have cameras connected to it. Pretty decent video quality, and real time. It's actually quite impressive.
-
Update: I've built the system and thigns look good but I can't find the turbo button for 960fps recording. I have a Core 2 Duo in there.

Hey Rory, how come you don't use DVD-rw drives in your DVR's? For Backups, they hold so much more data and DVDrs are cheaper then cdrs too.
-
If you really want the video to be "bigger", set your screen up for 1024x768 or 600x800, then the video in the playback will load up much bigger.

Avermedia Versus Geovision, my personal review.....
501 replied to 501's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yes, I'm looking forward to trying out some megapixel cams soons. Collinr, is there a good MPIP model you'd recommend testing out? Few of the loal suppliers carry the MP cams and the ones that do (Burtek) are very expensive. -
It seems there is a lot of hype now about the Hikvision cards and a lot of companies use them with their own software. I have to then assume that since the card does all the compression via hardware, the video quality would be the same for the different sofware or very close. I would really like to see some samples of the quality of the video from these cards and how they compare to Geo or Avermedia. Can anyone help with this?

Avermedia Versus Geovision, my personal review.....
501 replied to 501's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Good point Rory. Some of the applications you guys write are great. One very major pro for Avermedia I forgot was Megapixel IP camera support! Meanwhile geo is talking about dongle crap. I see geo has also released it's own IP camera.
