  1. Thanks JD, very much appreciated. Rory, the thing about ILDVR versus Avermedia is size of company, features, and support. The ILDVR stuff I've tested didn't seem great to me and it was not as easy to use as others. I know many, many companies use Hikvision cards (so they must be good) but if they use hardware compression, then the quality is going to be almost the same for all of them, with the only difference being software, while avermedia uses software compression (except 7000 series). I was just not that impressed with ILDVR software and I didn't find the video to be any better then Geo, but that is just me. Bring on the samples.

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

Thanks a lot Camelwalk. We have a bunch of Ati PCI express cards on hand, so I'll use one of them. You help is very much appreciated. So far, I like the Avermedia cards quite a bit, but like you, I still prefer the Geo's.
  3. JD's probably been very busy, but does anyone else have experience with Hikvision cards or samples? I ordered 2 of the Avermedai 6480 express cards and the supplier was trying to convince me to buy ILDVR cards instead and i know those cards are made by Hikvision.

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

Thanks for all the answers Camelwalk. I wish I could have bought it from you, but I've already ordered the cards and PC with 3X 750 Gb drives, 2 GB ram and a quad core processor. Plus I'm located in Canada which isn't great for service issues. The reason I asked about the onboard video is with Geo cards I haven't seen any difference between a decent on board intel video and a dedicated card, so I didn't know if there would be a big difference with Avermedia. I've found that there are much fewer driver issues and overall less problems if the onboard video can do a good job, at least for Geo.

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

I've decided to go with the Aver 6480 cards for a new 32 cam DVR we are building this week. Here are a few questions I have for the Avermedia Guru's: 1) Can you view all 32 cams on the same screen, the info says only 16 that I've read. 2) How many cameras can be viewed on the web client? 3) What M.B's do peole use or like for these cards? 4) How do they work with decent on board video? Cheers.

If there is one thing Rory knows it's Geo! PM me and I'll send it over

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

The patch is just a replacement Gv600.eve file so it wouldn't fix the 250 problems. Sorry.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

After it was all said and done, Geovision Engineers wrote a patch for it and now it works. I feel priviliged to have found the issue and brought it to their attention, and they've made the effort to fix it so quick (less then a week), but wonder how they could have sold thousands of Gv600 cards in that time and no one noticed the problems. Oh well. If anyone has this issue email Geo tech support for the file, pm me, or wait till version 8.2 comes out. Thanks for all the advice and it's good to know I wasn't crazy. I had to argue with tech support for a long time till they finally admitted there was a problem. They kept claiming that it was a limitation of the card.
  9. I was thinking that the release meant that current V8 systems also wouldn't support IP cameras like the GV-NVR which is just plain sad. We have been using Geo for 6 years now but Avermedia is already accepting Megapixel cams and Geo might start charging extra for that option? These dongles are nothing but a pain in the a$$ just like V.7 dongles and the SP/S1 chipsets. If Geo is going to continue to be the most expensive cards around, and then start charging for extra features like IP cameras, I think that will really affect their sales, at least I know it will from us.

    Dodgy suppliers

Yes, I have dealt a lot with Jeiviewcam in Canada and they have been pretty decent about taking products back and no pirated cards so far. Didn't realize they were the same as the cheezy ebay company.

    Dodgy suppliers

Are you talking about the supplier from BC?
  12. Just a follow up. We did the system with 13 doors and instaled 13 strikes and it went great. Customer is happy and systems running good. It was a bit of a nice change from CCTV and good to have learned. We'll take on more jobs for sure, in fact we have another access job next week.

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

Thanks for the great information camelwalk, I really appreciate it. I just ordered a 3000 card to test out the software and quality, but it won't be here for a while.

    PTZ Preset Polling

Yes, but your ptz will have to support it. We have PTZ's setup to cycle between 2 and 15 points and you can even set it to begin touring pre-sets when the PTZ isn't touched for a certain amount of time.

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I have been eyeing up these boards for sometime, but we have so many Geo systems working so well that we didn't want to use different cards for only a few sites. Now I am re-thinking changing from 2-16 Cam Geo's for large installs to 1 Aver 32 cam system might be a good option. How does the video quality compare? Remote View? Is the software the same for both this card and the more basic 5000 card? Is this card directly comparable to the GV-1480 card? I am thinking of ordering a Aver-5000 card just so I can test out the software before I buy everything for a 32 cam dvr. Do you have any video clips or back up's from an aver system I could check out?

    Avermedia NV6480 exp Frame rate

We have only really installed Geo and have had more requests for 32 camera systems. How do you find the software and video quality compare between the two?

Geovision GV800 - Genuine or Clone?

Looks old but possibly legit. Is there a hardware version written on the board that can be seen?

    8.12 viewlog avi save bug

    Yup, I've noticed it too.
  19. Thanks. I think a LOT of people who frequent these boards are curious as to the quality of video from various cards and manufacturers. We can't each test every car but by using a forum like this posting video samples and reviews of different cards, it can make all that information easier to sort through.
  20. I think comparing the quality to the 800 and perhaps the 1480 and 2008 would be great! Frame rate is important but overall quality of picture is more important to me. What have you thought of the Hikvision cards? I'm looking forward to some video samples. I'd also like to see them with a good quality camera too because DVD always looks so good on DVR's. Like everyone else, it would be nice to compare video from one card to another.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

I was thinking about swapping out the 650 card to see if this issue occurs. I will see if I can find 8.1 to try. I didn't try a video card yet but have a feeling that's not it. I'm really surprised no one else has mentioned this or experienced this before and now we do on three seperate and different systems. Weird. It's pretty bad but at least it's not all cards. The video samples look like old school time lapse tapes.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

So Guess what? I downgraded to version 7.0 and the video is good, and quite smooth, no more issues. Wtih all 4 cams connected and only one recording it went from 2 fps to 24 fps..... not bad! I am building 2 650 systems this week, so I'll know after I do them if those cards are fine but the 250 and 600's are simlar just like the 650/800's, so I bet the 650 is fine. I may have to send some of these 600 cards I have here back if no soultion is found.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

You may be right, I'm going to try different versions next. So I was able to recreate the problem in my office with a brand new system we just built. This newly built system had a Gv800-16 card and was tested and working great. We removed all software, installed a GV600 4 port, reinstalled all drivers and software and tested. With one camera, the system is great, with more we have the exact same issue. Here is a sample of 4 cameras running at 24/7 record at 320X240. We know that it should be about 7-8 fps per cam. In all the Gv600’s we’ve installed in the past, this wasn’t a problem. With this system you can see it records at 2 fps MAX and sometimes misses an entire second. This a dedicated DVR system with NO other programs or software. I've got a video clip someone could post so you can see how poor the frame rate is. It's crappy old cams on the floor but it gets the point across. I know this is not a limitation of the card and I could grab my 4 year old GV600 system from the storage and record 4 cams and show a the huge difference. I'm going ot try downgrading software to see.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

Had the same problem today with another intel board dif chipset. I called Geo tech support and the tech logged into the system to assist. I thought this was helpful. What he said was that it was a limitation of the Gv600. Together we watched several cams in the viewlog and there were gaps of up to 2 seconds in the recording, yet maybe 2 or 3 cameras were recording at that time. Average was 1-2 fps in 320x240 with motion and maybe 1-2 cams recording at a time. I've installed many of these same cards and they are fine for small systems, but less then 1 fps is not ok especially on motion. Has anyone encountered this recentley? It's very weird. If someone would like to try the remote viewlog to check it, just pm me. I am going to try to recreate it in our office and then I can post up some shots. I was also thinking of changing versions to an older one for now.

    Bad Geo Card or PC?

Update: Turns out the board was atcually a Intel® Desktop Board D946GZIS. We just built another system with the same motherboard and a GV-600 4 port for 3 cameras and the exact same problems, no frames on recording but live view is fine. So it has to be the motherboard right? We are using the onboard video but this should be fine and it supports Direct Draw overlay and more. A video card wouldn't fix this would it? Just a bit stumped and now motherboards have to be swapped. Yuk.
