So it's been talked about a lot but there was no proof for these frame rates so I spent the morning doing tests. GV800 Card-16, New system with Intel board, P4 3.0Ghz Processor, 1GB Ram, 4 Color Cameras set to record 24/7 with Geo H.264 compression. I then tried all the different video sources and recorded both with motion happenning and no motion and counted the frames for every camera for both motion and non. Interestignly enough, when I first started, the other channels (5~16) said video lost (before I disabled them) and this lowered the count by 25%. So the results were: Resolution-------Per Cam-------Total 320X240---------30fps-----------120fps 640X480---------12~14fps-------48~56fps 640X480 D/I-----25~27fps------100~108fps 720X480---------11~13fps-------44~52fps 720X480 D/I-----23~24fps------92~96fps Kind of what I expected. This is in no way official and I think with only 4 cameras connected, it's a best case scenario, but at least it's something to look at. After i was done I did some more testing with different codecs (Geo Mpeg4 and ASP). Guess what, totally different results. 320 - 30fps each 640 - 20~22 fps 640DI - 30fps Interesting, I guess the H.264 saves a lot of space but also records a lot less frames, hence so much more recording time. I use H.264 at home a nd noticed the video doesn't seem as smooth as it used too.

Whats the next step up from Geovision/Avermedia DVR's
501 replied to photys's topic in General Digital Discussion
I'm also looking for what Photys is looking for but in my experience, Rory hit it on the head. I think that IP is going to totally take the markey by storm in the next few years and I think only then will the quality reach a level we can all be happy with. I know it is available now but the costs are too high for most small to medium business's.... at least in my experience. Oh ya, the thing I like best about PC based is you can fix system remotely with VNC or PC anywhere, so you offer "Online Support". So much better the driving down to fix somthing easy. -
Need to Replace 16 channel win4net card
501 replied to netman's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
If you plan to use that same board, it has an Intel 845 chipset so a good card would be a Geovision GV-800. Very good card with very good quality video and a lot of features. -
Use the internal IP address to connect to the DVR (192.168.X.X) instead of the external IP. That should fix your problem, some routers don't let you acess the exernal IP for internal servers from an internal PC.

I am looking at doing an upgrade for s customer. They have a cuurent system (March 3108) and it through a monitoring station of sorts. They have to pay a large monthly fee as well as a fee to view recorded video. I am wondering if anyone has experience with these and how they would compare to a Geovision 1240 system? Video quality?

The board is an Intel brand "DG965SSCK", with a P4 631 processor, 1GB Ram and 500GB sata drive. http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/DG965SS/index.htm Rory, did you try the remote playback?

In my post, you will see that the video was recording in cif. The GV600 is not a bad card and with say 5 or 6 cameras (at this install) where only one or 2 usually have motion, it does just fine. They are a good card for small budgets or residential systems. The smart record makes a big difference on these cards as well. On this particular system, 2 fps is the average, but 4 fps was max, it was some times even skipping complete seconds. And this again was 320x240 on a duo-core system. And here is the thing, the live view was excellent, smooth and fairly fluid for the cameras with motion, but when you check the video, it looks nothing like the live view, about 1/4 the frames. The plus side is after 20 days, it's only used up 30gb, and with a 500gb they'd get a year! We tried replacing the GV card with no luck this week so it's back to the drawing board. Not sure where to start but probably motherboard, maybe a new video card. We also don't sell cards alone, only sell and install complete DVR's so there is not a huge diff in profits.

Ya, a CRT would look better but, an LCD TV makes way more sense. Cheaper, smaller and lookes way better to customers then a CRT, which is just ugly.

That is like the clearest surveillance video I have ever seen. Wow. -
Need help selecting video proposal. Please give your input.

Those prices seem very low to me. -
I tested one of their cards a few years ago. Bernard, the owner of Bernclare said it was much better quality then Geovision, but I wasn't that impressed and the software was bit clumsy.

I've had the same problem with teh combo cards and Gview V2. If I coonect with the Gview it crashes the webcam viewer and the service needs to be restarted to work again. I never reported the problem to Geovision but I have seen it on a few systems now. Sorry no solution, noping the next version will fix it.

I was wondering if there is a way to have a sound file play when there is motion on a specific camera but only at certain times? We have integrated the sound card output with the intercom system of a Car Dealer and when one of the cameras see motion between 9 at night and 7 am we'd like the DVR to play a recorded sound file. I know how to get the sound file to play, and I am just wondering if there is a way to only have it play during certain times?

OK, I know I'n not the only one dying to see some meag pixel video footage. Any chance someone could post up some sample video of megapixel cameras so we can see just how big the difference is? Thanks. I am debating trying out an Avermedia card right now, they sure look nice and my supplier has a great deal on the NV7000 cards right now.

Anyone ever test a VCR INC VCHC8 card?
501 replied to topspin's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
We started with VCR Inc..... crap software, total junk. -
The plan was to record an audio file with the stores hours, and then if a cam sees motion between 8 pm and 6 am it just plays the stores hours letting people know that the store is closed but "someone" is watching. We have PTZ's patrolling the whole premesis but the sound would only come when the single stationary cam watching the main gate saw motion. Geo should have this funstion available in it's schedule. There are many other things a feature like this could be used for (alerting security cards of motion after hours but not during the day for example)
-
I'm surprised this is not an option. Any other ideas? Is there a way to have the soundcard only active at certain times? How about turnign on and off the speakers at certain times?
-
Where did you set the audio files to record? Make sure they aren't also on the C drive. For swapping parts, you can swap Ram and power supply to start. Also try doing a HDD scan with a bootable CD from the manufacturers website to make sure that the HDD are definitley good (WD, maxtor/seagate all have them). Tha's where I'd start.
-
Hmm, the Geo files are time stamped and named according to the DVR system time, but the DVR system takes the time from the "Windows" time. If all of the video files names were changed, it should have a dte modified on for everyone. I'm not sure where else to look, was there perhaps a camera that had a clock in view?

So I had someone else's customer call me for some assistance with the stand alone NLDVR376. They need some video extracted off it and there is no Burner, USB Drive or memory stick slot. So I took the unit home, removed the removable HDD and set it to slave and inserted it into my pc (I have a removeable bay). The disk could not be read and windows wanted to initialize it. I choose yes, and now the disk has come up as unsed in my PC and when I put it back into the DVR it says that the disk is empty. Yes, I made a mistake here. Now I have a professional copy of Easy Recovery Pro which is able to read this disk and I should be able to remove the files from it, but the machine says that the files are all jpg's and .cur files (about 20 jpg's per .cur file). Since the DVR uses wavelet compression, I think that the video was made up of .jpg's that are able to be linked together by the cur files. Am I screwed now? Anyone been through this or have any ideas? After this, I sure like how easy back ups are on a PC system.

Casino Photos are these D1?
501 replied to scorpion's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ya, if that is or was the actualy quality, it's not very good. -
I've wanted to try out the cards for a long time. What issues are you encountering?
-
Trust me, it's not the limitation of the card. The remote view is exactly the same as recorded files too. I tried setting ther max frame rate to 10 fps, hooked up one cam, 10fps, hooed up 2 and it was 5 at best on motion. It's not software settings, I'm quite sure of that. On smart record, even with 7 cameras, the frame rate is decent when set to motion, but missing entire seconds worth of frames is not normal. If someone wants to see the remote view, pm me and I'll send a link. We've ordered a replacement card since we rarely use 600's and have no stock, this system was really on a budget, hence the 600 card.

Intel Board, core2 duo, 1Gb ram, 500GB HDD, V8.12, a brand new install. Same setup we've used for the last 4 monthsd with 800s, 1120's and 1480's. When I say a max of 2fps, I am serious. We went into the viewlog and played back the video files frame by frame and counted them, with one cam, it was 30, with 2 it was about 5 each, with 7 it was a max of 2. All cams were set to smart record, tried all compressions and qualitys. I strongly think it's the card because when 7 cameras were running, you could watch the live view and as soon as a cam picked up motion it was fairly smooth (Say 7 to 10 fps display) for a 600, but on playback, even if none of the other cams had motion, it would only record at 2fps, but unhook the other cams, and its up at 30. Also checked the max frame rates, and thats not the problem either.

I knew it was somewhere. I tested it out last night and it did record in 640x480, from a previous set up a long time ago, but I couldn't find where I made it do so.
