great idea, thanks ! -
Hi, We have a pretty neat job comming up, and am looking for some advice on hardware. We have a SWAT training facility that wants to be able to record and play back the training excercises. The req's are: -4 PTZ cams -Best possible video and sound quality. -Record 300+ hours of Video and SOUND. -Control PTZ function from both joystick at DVR, and over network from - web interface of DVR. -Play back different video clips to any of the 4 classrooms simutaneously. - No need to record in dark(I find this tough to believe for SWAT Training, but this is what they tell me) Budget is pretty big, so we are looking for somethign top quality without being overkill for the app. I have never used Megapixel or IP cams for CCTV before, is this the direction I should go? What brands should I take a look at? The panasonic megapixel stuff looks cool? Thanks for any advice Ryan

Hi guys, its not police, Its not actualy SWAT I just didn't want to give away exactly what it is. Lets call it a SWAT-like tactical/anti-terror team, on a government(federal) facility. ... but you can imagine the type of training they do would be almost identical to police SWAT teams. And yes ... you guys do have great ideas ! The motion activated stuff sounds realy cool, I am not quite sure if we are talking about actual motion 'tracking' or just using motion sensors in different areas to pan the cam to that preset location upon the event. Either way ... sounds cool ... I just wonder how difficult this would be to implement so that it is consistent and reliable? If the manual joystick can override it, and it doesn't cost a zillion dollars I'm definantly interested in pursuing it. Ryan

WDR camera for dark room with bright light sources.

Yep, the KT&C isnt too bad for the price. I think i paid 280 or so. What about that dome housing though ? it looks like a missle siloh. Its HUGE and HEAVY. I had to mount a piece of plywood behind the ceiling tile to support it! anyway Im still waiting on the nuvico WDR, I hear it is the bomb for the price, lookign forward to trying it. ... very happy with the KT&C though, Only complaint is that the buttons for the OSD are a PITA to use, althouh I did see they made a little remote you can plug in to program it .. _Ryan -
WDR camera for dark room with bright light sources.

Only WDR cam i have tested so far is the KT&C, NUVICO is still backordered, and the BOSH wasnt WDR , they lied to me The KTC works pretty well, the colors look wierd, but it eliminates alot of glare/shadow. WDR didn't work well in the dark room in question, however here is it beside a normal day/night honeywell dome in our shop. The one on the left is the KT&C WDR dome , the one on the right is the honeywell day/night dome. -
Well, Id try a windows repair. Its the easiest thing to try. Its either corupt system files, or hardware failure. With the amount of malware out there these days, its highly likely its the first rather than the later.

It sounds like you have just tried to "clean up windows" and not reintall or anything? Run a repair on windows. boot from your xp cd as if installing, skip the first repair prompt and if you were going to install fresh, then when the second prompt comes for repair choose that. It will reinstall all of the windows system files. documents and programs should still be intact. Backup important files first just in case. If that doesnt work its likely hardware issues. first and simplest thing to try is reseating ALL connections, power, ide, sata, ram, cards, everything. second thing you can try is removing all cards and drives except for your main hardisk, and just try and boot the motherboard with proccessor, ram, and a single HD. if that works well, then start reconnecting things till you get the problem again. after that you are gonna have to start swapping out hardware to find the problem. motherboards rarely go bad after the first month or so, Id guess hardisk first. I would swap the power supply first as it is the easiest, then the hardisk, then as a last resort the motherboard.

First of all, does the mobo have onboard sata, or are you using a sata pci card? If onboard there is no reason to install sata drivers prior to windows. It should see the drive if the port is enabled in the bios. Thats possibly whats bunking it up. You only need to do that if you have a controller card, or raid. Otherwise sounds like a bad mobo.

Hi, my name is Ryan, new to the forum. I am a network engineer who has recently started doing some CCTV work. I have been relying on my suppliers (ADI) recommendations for DVR's and cameras, and feel somewhat disappointed in the units I have been dealing with; which happen to be mostly Speco units. I have read more negative comments about Speco DVRS on the forums here than I have positive ones. In my experience the remote viewing is horrible, and the image quality and framerate(at full capacity) are so-so. I have a new job for which I need to install a 4 port DVR, and 4 black and white outdoor cameras that will operate at night in low light conditions, lit from streetlights about 75 yards away. I have gotten quotes for 3 DVRs: DIGIMERGE VCD304161 Speco DVR4TN Everfocus EDR410H I pretty much know what to expect with the Speco unit, as I have used the TN16's before. My question is how do the other two compare to the Speco (which would you choose). Or ... Is there a better alternative altogether in the sub $1,200 range. - Based on stability, and image quality. This job only requires 2 - 3 days of recording time on 4 cams, so filesize, and drive space wouldn’t seem to be of major concern. Thank you for your input. Hopefully I will be able to help out with some input in the future. Regards Ryan

I ordered a nuvico, a kalatel, and a bosch. all in the $300-400 range, will let you know which ones works best. Probably pick up a pano too for comparison. Pano wpuld be a hard sell for its price in this app i think though. -
WDR camera for dark room with bright light sources.

Thanks, Yeah pointing the camera from above the window would be optimal, however for this particular room pointing it at the window is unavoidable. I am going to give the Nuvico's a try. Does the lense mm (2.6~6mm, 3.8~9.5mm) I choose have much affect on the picture quality as far as those lighting conditions are concerned? Ryan -
Ok what are my options for what you would consider economy? I am only calling those economy , because Im comparing it to DVR's like the honeywell Fusion @ 6k some odd dollars ! Thanks for the info. _Ryan Oh and has anyone ever tried one of these units: http://www.vctvision.com/ They claim that thier compression technology is 12x smaller than mpeg4 ??
