Ok guys I got my new Lorex 1080p POe camera system today that I ordered from Costco.com here--> http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-Full-HD-Real-Time-PoE-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100048576.html So questions is where do I start. I'm thinking I have to setup 1 or 2 cameras in temporary locations first and test how they will show video in day and night and what they capture to be sure I'm happy with quality. Then once I do start setting them up I can use my cell phone live video app. to adjust as needed. Only 2 questions right now that I have: 1.) When drilling through my walls do I drill from the outside into the attic or vice versa? Also what type of drill bit to use? 2.) Where should I place the 2 dome cameras I received indoor only or outdoor only or 50/50? I was thinking of putting a dome in my garage and another in my living room. 3.) Please see attachment on Home layout (Pic from Google Maps) & a garage layout. Where should I place camera? I have 6 cameras total for now and plan on buying 2 more later. Thanks all for the help!! BEAUTIFUL!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! -
Ok guys, Finally decided to break down and buy this system from Costco: http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-Full-HD-Real-Time-PoE-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100048576.html My BIG questions is since this is a POE system, do I have to worry about my IP on my modem changing from Comcast making it impossible for me to view my cameras when the IP does change? If so is there any way arround this without getting a business account from Comcast for my home? Thanks!

NVR is going in my attic that has plenty of room : ) Next question is where to position the cameras (your game) lol. So anyone else want to chime in about Empire Security? -

Ok so as long as I don't plan on using a PTZ camera, which really I don't to me it would be a waste as I would hardly ever access it. Also I will be setting my cameras to "ALWAYS" recording 24/7 and probably only change the indoor cameras to motion if I leave for vacation to save recording space. As for the cameras I've been seeing talk on here about how you can update the firmware to the Hikvision camera firmware and it also up's the megapixel.........Did I say that right or thing or am I on a totally different subject? So other than the above does it sound like this Lorex system will work? I did contact Empire Security and waiting on a price.....are the "ES" IP cameras and NVR much better than what Lorex has? What makes it better? Thanks! Mike -

Dave, So what exactly would the external alarm inputs do? From what I take it means that I can out put the NVR to my home alarm system and if one of the cameras in my house goes off then it sets off my alarm? Or what? Also I think it does do PTZ control....look at the back and zoom in....isn't that what the RS-485 connection is for or what is that? So I haven't been able to find any youtube videos on the camera quality except for what Lorex actually has posted but I want a non-biased video. I did however manage to find a Swann 1080p video of the cameras that I believe are the same cameras too like you mention and the quality seems incredible!! Is it really that good? Also on the site it mentions - 3 Megapixel 4mm lens for superior detail and wide angle viewing (79° diagonal FOV). Is this a good FOV degree? Or what is average or recommended? -

Ya I hear ya. I've been reading a lot of stuff on here lately, but there doesn't seem to be to much info on their new stuff only stuff from last year and beyond that wasn't well rated. What got me to be honest with that the product had 111 reviews with 4.5 out of 5 stars and everyone talked about how great the picture was. So let me ask everyone...if the picture is considered "Excellent" by the end user using a 1080p tv and the cameras catch the degrees of coverage they want and the remote apps work great on phones.................What else is there to consider?? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks! -
Ok guys trying to finalize everything now. Came across this system on Costco's site. Is it a good or bad deal and WHY??? http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-Full-HD-Real-Time-PoE-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-6-1080p-Cameras.product.100048576.html Going to use on single story home approx. 2000 sq. ft. with pool in back yard. Wanted to get at least 1 camera in the living room and eventually expand to a full 8 cameras. Is this worth my time and money? Thanks! Mike

Dano, When you say hybrid system...in what way do you mean?? Also do you have a link to the system they are selling you or is it put together by them? Can't wait to hear what the quality will be like. Thanks! -

Dano, Read your comment on Costco....sounds like you go frustrated with Q-see's QC.....did you actually try out the cameras at all or no anyone that owns them? I'm just curious on the quality indoor and out. I think I'm done with Q-see just because of some of the reviews but mainly because of 2 things that I recently learned of. The lens is a 5mm lens or something high and I read that it should be 3.6mm or less and also found out that the degree of view is only 50-55% which is AWFUL compared to the other brands that are 75% and 80% etc... So that you guys know the dilemma I'm having now is deciding Analog systems from Costco over IP (i.e Swann or Lorex) from Costco....I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth almost double the price for half the components. Dave, My house is about the same size as yours and one story also. I have a really high roof line over my garage and the peak is about 25-30' ft. so i'm curious how the cameras would do. -

Dave, If you don't mind me asking....how big is your how and is it single story? How many cameras do you think you'll now need? Will 8 be enough? THanks! -

Very nice Dave thanks for the info. So you went with the Swan IP system. Can you point me to which one you have? How do you like the interface for your phones etc..? How many cameras and if you set it on the best picture possible with all cameras how long can it record for? Thanks again! Mike -
