Good evening/morning/afternoon.
I recently came across these forums while attempting to perform a password recovery for a client of mine, a small privately owned restaurant. The owner is using a sixteen camera independent DVR CCTV solution, accessible over the network. I found it with a network scanner, identified the open ports, can ping it, am able to access a hilinux installation via telnet (wide open - root with no password) and can get to a login screen via http (on port 800 for some reason - security through obscurity ).
What I cannot do is what the owner wants me to do: configure more users.
I cannot do this because he let go of his former IT provider, who isn't coughing up the administrative credentials. Although we're moving forward with legality as a method of encouraging this 'professional' to do what's right, the owner is leaving the country in less than two weeks and would like to be able to keep an eye on things while he's gone.
The vendor (active-vision.com) is willing to give us password reset instructions IF we can provide proof of purchase: which, you guessed it, was made by the same 'gentleman' who won't provide the equipment owner with the administrative credentials. This, however, hints that some sort of button combination using the front panel may be available.
The vendor otherwise will allow us to ship back the DVR and reset the password for us for only $45 USD: very reasonable, but it has a three week turnaround time, which doesn't fall into this timetable.
In short, what I need are instructions on restoring default configuration to this unit. Internet searches haven't turned up a thing, although they did help me find my way here. I'm hoping someone out there can give me a hand. My last ditch will be to pop the cover, look for a battery and hope that removing it will clear settings back to the defaults (which active-vision did, thankfully, provide).
SUMMARY:
A method is needed to reset configuration to default on an Active-Vision SX-414-16 DVR device.
