Lorex 8-channel NVR with 6 1080p cams @Costco for $999.99

QFT When I need to take a picture of someone's face or license plate to the police, I need that one crystal clear image. A bunch of smooth blurry images does my absolutely no good. -

they have the swann 2 packs still available, i didn't see the lorex cameras last time, i'm not sure if costco would list the same camera from 2 oems at the same time? I didn't realize they still had this available! -

honestly the nvr pq was only ok i did not spend too much time with it htough. , it looks a lot better on my own nvr as well, i bought them because it was still cheaper this way then buying separate cameras, with a better return policy and all. Valid points. Be sure to update this forum if your perception changes. I'm still in the market for something... Preferably before winter comes. -

I passed on it. The comments on picture quality were too varied. I'm trying to find the actual Hik bullets and roll my own NVR. I'm a little gun shy on Wrightwood though. -

.. Confused... Conflicting reviews. I'm gonna wait and try to grab the Hikvision bullets when they show their faces stateside. Any help with that is much appreciated. -

Lorex 1080P NVR from Costco (NVR firmware Question)
uh2 replied to evnldr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In my case I don't need the NVR and if I get the old domes I don't consider that a value. I can buy bulk cable and terminate/run it myself. I think I'd rather get a better quality camera (assuming that the Lorex cameras from Costco are inferior) and not have to deal with selling the NVR and potentially having 2 lame duck domes. -
Lorex 1080P NVR from Costco (NVR firmware Question)

All the more reason to buy the Hik cameras and roll my own NVR. Hmmmm. -

Yes they can be used by themselves. http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1729 I saw the same review by buellwinkle, but I was unsure whether or not these Lorex/Costco cameras have been dumbed down or changed in any way. I'm on the fence with this system. I'm starting to think buying the Hikvision version and using a PC/NAS as an NVR might be the way to go for me, especially since I'm not assured of which version of dome camera is coming in the box. -

Can anyone confirm that these cameras can/can't be used without an NVR (Obviously you would need a PoE switch) by ftp'ing to an NFS share? -

This is an obvious flaw. Has anyone pressed the issue with Lorex? I would think.. Foam... Easy to trim... Hut we shouldn't have to.. Especially if they hold it against you in the future. -

Duly noted. I've had that in the back of my mind and that has been my experience with Costco over the last year as well. If you see something you want, better buy it because there's no guarantee it will be back! Actually I'm a little saddened now that these cameras appear to be cheaply made. This doesn't sound like it's going to be worth it in the long run, especially if the cameras are not hardy enough to last outside. -

Not sure how that even passed a QC check. -

Thanks Buellwinkle (2 wheel fan?). Rayt posted above me that he seems to have gotten the new domes with his two purchases. I think if I ordered this and it came with the old model I would be inclined to return it. Having only 4 cameras capable of decent IR negates the value. Any comments of the picture quality of the bullets? Any cause for concern? EDIT: I should add that the ability to ftp directly to an NFS share instead of the NVR is a major reason for me considering these cameras. Can anyone confirm that these cameras do in fact have this capability? Again, thanks. -

I've been lurking for a few weeks, and this Costco system caught my eye. I was ready to pull the trigger, but I'm hoping for some more feedback. I saw the two recently posted reviews on Costco's site, and they mention bad image quality, fogging and cheap materials. I was under the impression that the same model of Hik camera was a really good value/quality for the price. Can anyone else provide any input? The sale ends on the 18th, and I'll probably wait until then to collect more data before deciding what to do. Thanks, UH2
