I bought SONY Effio CCD 700TVL and I need help
Robin2 replied to gyrokiller's topic in Security Cameras
What exactly is wrong/ what do you see? Describe it a bit more. Is there any ambient light or are there lots of insects around? I have a cam with similar specs and it sees perfectly without IR just from ambient light so you have to identify the problem before jumping to standard solutions. -
Excellent review. I have some questions I hope someone can help me with: - Mask The mask setting in the nano only works with analog camera's, not with IP cams. IP cams can "Use IP Camera Motion" but I cannot get it to work work with a axis 207W. Motion fields etc. set u put but the DVR does not recognize a "Send HTTP notification" and "Send TCP notification" as motion trigger. Testing the connection says connection success. What could be the trick or is there a way to activate a mask for IP cams in the Nano. - Resolution in H.264/MPEG4 : turnover point to MJPEG The new firmware enables a higher resolution of 8MP total to be devided among 4 channels. That is higher than the manual says. The question is how high can one go and retain H.264 (or MPEG4) recording before having to go for MJPEG recording?

Connect your DVR to a wireles router with brige function. See if your other network has a router with bridge function or buy one and connect it. Go to your nearest computer shop and they will advise you. Ask for combining two networks wirelessly. Personally I would avoid going wireless at ANY cost.

Using moton detection lamp as covert PIR for a NVR
Robin2 posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
A PIR can be necessary if sun or shadows constantly trigger motion recording but that can be too obtrusive or not covert enough. Might it be possible to buy a regular outdoor lighting lamp and use it as a standard motion detection lamp and also use the PIR in it 24/7/365 connected to a NVR to trigger recording or events for a camera placed further away? Any ideas? -

Advice needed on camera placement. This okay?

What is your objective? Money is always a restriction and seeing everything everywhere in the utmost detail is an illusion. I would go for two things: See what is going on and getting the idea of which perpetrator did what. That can with very little detail and a very wide angle lens and even with a cheap camera. Just where did they go and which punk did ... and who of them was standing watch? Separately get a detailed image of what the face of the intruder looks like, what he wears, what he holds in his hand. Very zoomed in with high resolution high quality camera. Let me know your thoughts and how it changes your setup. -
Using moton detection lamp as covert PIR for a NVR

I used PIR lamps a lot but am a novice in other PIR use. If you can help me on the way or point me in a direction that would be much appreciated. Is the light sensor preventing the PIR-light from switching on during the day does not usually cut the power to the PIR? And where does one pick up the the signals? I want to run one with a short wire and another one with a long (20-30 meters / 60-90 feet) wire to a Aver EH series Nano. What do I have to look out for? Another thing I would like is make a covert PIR switched camera lamp. I thought about taking a nice front door lamp with built in PIR and build a small camera like a AXIS P12 Network Camera Series into the big chunk of black plastic containing the PIR underneath the lamp. http://www.axis.com/files/datasheet/ds_p12_48713_en_1211_lo.pdf In the neighborhood those type of lamps hang everywhere right next to the front door at about head height or a tiny bit higher. Therefore I hope that should give good identification, aided at night by the about 60 watts lamp above it. And the PIR triggers the recording. It is outdoors but rain does not reach the lamp. Does that seem doable or are there better options (doorbells with camera's inside are no good)? -

Problem with the police and the law is that it does not follow logic and can work for or against you. Some countries have laws against filming public area's with fixed camera's. Others just have laws against audio recording in public. Giving evidence to the police might get you arrested, or dismisses the evidence and therefore the entire case, while in other countries it is allowed. Some countries allow shooting trespassers while other countries lock you up for even owning a toy that looks like a gun. Watch out with "destroy him/her" and watch out for what is effective in our feminine society. If you have a clue who it is, depending where you live you might get a restraining order. Having evidence of him/her being in the surroundings might already get them busted. That is better than having an arrest based on CCTV footage at the cost of a badly damaged car or several damaged cars before you catch them. Trespassing in some countries is only (or much more severely) punishable when there is a fence or a no trespassing sign so that might be a good investment. If that makes the same act breaking or entry instead of a judge accepting a excuse of Oh I just entered there by mistake, that is more effective. This immensely complicates things, if catching someone with a good image was not already difficult enough. It is important to consider however. If you have not established the goal and right way of filming for the purpose it might bring you nothing but a lot of equipment costs and disappointment. -
The file format is not important. Deleting files does not actually delete anything. It just labels the file as "this place can be overwritten" in an index file. You must make sure to stop writing to the hard disk before that space will be overwritten. Overwriting it complicates things. This is a operating system/ harddisk question. It comes down to having the right skills or simply finding the right software tool to undelete the files. It helps to know the operating system used (and to a lesser degree sometimes the format sceme is usefull to know). Usually that is written in the manual or can be asked at the vendor/ manufacturer. The manufacturer may even have a tool for it that he can provide to you so you can hang the harddisk in your computer and recover the deleted files. When files are erased AND overwritten it becomes more complicated to recover them. You could try a recovery software tool and if the images are important to you I suggest going to a data recovery company. It will cost you but chances are that they can recover the desired data (sometimes even when overwritten). What are you trying to recover and from what hardware?

I conclude that you are being harassed and want evidence to stop that. You must provide more information to be able to help you. First decide what you want. Do you want to scare someone off because he knows he might get filmed in the act. Or do you want to catch him with evidence to press criminal charges. Further you should provide distances, lighting conditions, is it public parking space or on private property and more of that information to be able to give any advice. Or hire a company to advise you and do it for you. -
If you can than never use built in IR. Increasing ambient light or motion detection lamps give best results.

Camera Recommendation for a newbie - image color critical
Robin2 replied to nwrunner's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Inexpensive bullet cams use a permanent filter that lets lots of IR light pass to enhance low-light specs. In daylight that washes out the colours. Buy a IR cut filter and put that in front of a cheap bullet cam and colours become a lot more accurate. Online streaming with a fixed lens camera? Why not try a webcam? -
Harddisk limitations for Aver EH1008H-4 Nano / NVR EXR6004-M
Robin2 replied to Robin2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yes the old unit is a EB series. The shop told me it takes 2TB drives, apparently wrong advice. I was thinking about advanced and traditional format drives because the limit for normal format drives lies at 2TB, bigger drives must be advanced format drives, nowdays almost every drive sold seems to be advanced format. It was hair pulling because of that advice I thought it might be the normal format/ advanced format issue or something else. Strange limit 1TB. Is the unit capable of handling advanced format drives? Beause other drives are geting extremely rare to find even in 1TB. Are the newer units EH1008H-4 Nano / NVR EXR6004-M capable of handling 2TB advanced format drives? -

It is about 2,5 years old. It was already a while in the shop I bought it from so it could well be 3 years old. -
Harddisk limitations for Aver EH1008H-4 Nano / NVR EXR6004-M
Robin2 replied to Robin2's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Thanks for the answer. I tried a western digital AV-GP of 2TB. The AV-GP is for 24/7 use in DVR for multiple simultaneous streams according to the manufacturers website. I bought the 2TB version to replace the 1TB WD AV-GP version that had died but the 2TB disk keeps spinning up but is not recognized by the recorder and does not format. According to the old specs from the time the machine was produced it should accept a 2TB drive, and therefore I am wondering what is going on. -

The compatible hard disk list gives an 404 error in Chinese that the file is not present. Often those files are no good anyway. Come on there must be someone who knows which disks fit (especially 2TB), I tried to replace a dead hard disk in another model with a 2TB disk of the same brand and: nothing. The hard disk is not recognized. Before buying several hard disks I would like to know more about this. I am sure there are folks out there with knowledge about this. Please drop a line here. -
Desperate: "thief" cheating our wired CCTV constantly?
Robin2 replied to ThomasSmith's topic in General Digital Discussion
I will try some: Do not use wireless. It is easy and costs next to nothing to spy on mobile phones or dect phones, jam a wireless system or break into it. Change the mobile itself and replace the dect with a wired phone. I never heard of clicking sounds or secret phone numbers you can call to verify if you are being tapped that work so I would not count on it. Other stuff they might use leaves traces. Cutting any remote access to a security system (nice experiment) might take away a point of attack. Re arrange camera positions and viewing angles now and then. A battery powered stand-alone nanny recorder with SD-card representing a teddy bear might help. Do not tel anyone, even your family and buy it with cash in a real store (defeats any wiretapping). Simple things like security tape but better gluing a hair or so to a door might work. Go into the little childrens firecracker department and get pull wires and that kind of stuff and attach it to some doors or windows. The little bang can give them a temporary scare but the objective is they cannot replace them without examining them, find a store that sells it, and re-enter the home to replace it. If they harass you keep cool. -
