Can you share the firmware file?..
-
Well, it's almost there, I just need it to stop crashing all the time. I just want to give it a go with some different firmware (heck, maybe even a reinstall of the original will help) before throwing it out.

I have yet another one of those unbranded DVRs based on the H3515. http://www.kissmegoodbuys.com/eBay/Product/Electronics/CCTV_System/DVR8108AV_07.jpg The FTP does not seem to work and the device crashes randomly (usually whilst connected). I threw General_NVR3xxx_Eng_N_V2.610.0000 at it, and it crashed, but rebooted with no apparent change. Top was reporting 106% memory usage previously. Since trying the firmware update, although nothing seems to be different, it has stayed below 100% and not crashed in the past 15 minutes. Coincidence. Can anyone suggest what firmware I should try? The PC client reports the version as: v2.82.r09.04731001 Some output: <5>Linux version 2.6.24-rt1-hi3515v100 (zhaoqiting@node02.localdomain) (gcc version 3.4.3 (release) (CodeSourcery ARM Q3cvs 2004)) #16 Sat Apr 21 13:30:08 CST 2012 Sofia: $Rev: 1053 $, Build in:May 26 2012, 09:02:21, 0 <6>HI_VERSION=LINUX_2_6_24-M01C06FB02F @Hi3515v100R001_C_0_0_0 2010-03-16 10:41:14 <6>HISI_WDT-MDC030001 @Hi3515v100_OSDrv_1_1_0_1 2010-08-12 16:47:02

If not able to help directly with firmware resources, can anyone tell me if this is a clone of a specific, known DVR? Overview: http://www.kissmegoodbuys.com/eBay/Product/Electronics/CCTV_System/DVR8108AV_07.jpg Remote: http://www.kissmegoodbuys.com/eBay/Product/Electronics/CCTV_System/DVR8108AV_04.jpg Back/Inside: http://www.kissmegoodbuys.com/eBay/Product/Electronics/CCTV_System/DVR8108AV_02.jpg Serial number? from mine: 20130105000089 I see so many similar ones but with slightly different button layouts. I tried a few more firmwares last night, they reported "upgrade fail" using the CMS tool and the separate Upgrade tool that came on my disk. Or, here's a description of a crash: Long beep (I think it's actually one double then two quick beeps), followed by several seconds to several minutes of silence and inaccessibility, followed by a short single beep. There seem to be no error logs to be found on the device. Gegh, I knew it would be low quality, but I didn't think it would crash every few minutes. Unfortunately I bought it when I had spare cash back in December, did a quick test then, but didn't install it until last week. I really need the FTP to work as it's not very secure. I guess it'd take about 5 minutes to break into the room and destroy it once the cameras are discovered (in such an event). If the data gets to the NAS it'll go straight to the cloud. Thanks for any assist in identification of original source, firmware, errors, etc.

This post is about a month old, but I just came across it and the password was useful. Are there any updates on this? I am frustrated with my DVR crashing and failing to FTP. I hope to get ftpd or ssh running so that my NAS can pull files off. Inside it seems to be a bit chaotic. Deliberate obfuscation or laughable technical decision making? I doubt we'll ever know. I'm doing some playing now, I thought I had things down, but everytime I try and mount the disk it crashes.
