Can't directly connect to Hikvision cameras connected to NVR
atari37 replied to ctbaker's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You can connect your cameras to a POE switch or a switch without POE but you would need a secondary source of power for the cameras. After that's done, you can go to the NVR and do a "Device Search", at least that's how it works on my Q-See. After the search detects the cameras, I can then add them to the NVR. I'm not sure what the Hikvision interface looks like. -
HD IP Camera Gigabit Switch - Wifi Router Slowdown Issue
atari37 replied to quaidorsay's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This sounds like a switching loop. Do you ONLY have one cable going from the switch to the wireless router? How many NICs are in the Server storage? Do you have another cable going from the server storage to one of the ports on the wireless router or back into the switch?? Double check your wiring. If this is not a switching loop, then the 10 cameras are just overwhelming the network. Have you tried hooking up only 2 to 5 cameras to see how the network behaves? -
Help me setup a 1080p home system please
atari37 replied to THEhomelessONE's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Seriously consider the Hikvision 3MP bullets and domes. They are great for the price. When you say you don't want to use your internet, do you mean, you don't want to stream the videos while you're away from home? Remember that you don't use your ISP provided internet unless you stream away from home. or are you trying to separate the cameras from your home network as well? That might require a dedicated PC or a PC with two NICs (one for camera network and another for home/internet), plus a dedicated switch. Buy one Hikvision and give it a try. I am very happy with the quality. -
Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I
atari37 replied to pnyxxpress's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about the date since I can disabled the date on the camera and use the date on my NVR. I was a little bit worried about not having the ability to update the firmware via a browser but after reading the documentation on how to flash using TFTP, I'm okay with it. It's just as easy. -

So, are you saying that if I have the Chinese version of the camera, I can only upgrade it with the US firmware through tftp? If I successfully get the US firmware on there through tftp, can future updates happen through the browser? If not, I would think that the country code can be easily changed, no? -

Wow guys, this thread turned into something else. It started with a simple question and good responses but then it just took on a whole new life. I'm no expect, just a Network Engineer that likes to be educated before taking on a new task. This website seemed like a great website for information when I decided to install security camera at my house. I found a lot of help and helped others when I could. Why can't you guys just agree to disagree and call it a day? Though you pros might take your art very seriously, there are other diy'er out there like myself that enjoy doing crap like this ourselves. We come to websites like this to get some of your knowledge not read about your fights. Just give your advice and move on. Some of us might take it seriously and others might not. What's with the 3 to 4 pages of "I do it better, you don't know what you're talking about, I get paid more because I'm better" Just let it go already. I would have thought it was a useless website and left If this was the first post I read when I first discovered this website. Keep the peace, educate and move on. -
I think knowing your budget might help people recommend something for you.

Couple questions mostly about remote viewing
atari37 replied to Wallboy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
As MindTwist mentioned, none of the Hikvision cameras I have support a third stream. I currently have two Hikvision's attached to my Q-See NVR with a third one on the way. -

I just tried this for you. As per the quote from the Q-See manual, yes, you can add the same cam to a different channel. However, the resolution will be the same for both channels. This is what I did. I clicked on "device search" and both of my cameras were displayed again in the search box. I then added one of them to my list of cameras and it added it to channel five. Now on the preview page, I'm able to see the same camera twice (channel 1 and channel 5). I went into the setup and change channel 5's camera settings to 1080p without touching channel 1's config. Channel 1 was setup as 3MP. I went back to the preview page and took a snapshot of both channel 1 and channel 2. Checked the property of both images and they showed up as 1080p not 1080p for channel 5 and 3MP for channel 1. -

If I'm following what he's after. I think he wants to use something better than the D1 resolution for the sub-stream but he doesn't want something as high as the main stream due to bandwidth. Question for you Wallboy, have you actually seen a snapshot or video from the D1 sub-stream? I can post some screenshot for you to take a look at. It's not bad at all. Remember that the recording happens on the main stream and that will have the full resolution so you can always playback the recorded video if you're not sure about what you're seeing in the sub-stream. One nice thing about my Q-See NVR (and I don't know if all NVR's behave this way) is that, I can playback my videos remotely right after it's recorded. So, you want to watch something in HD remotely? It's there. -

You might be able to throttle the network traffic based on ports or IP. -

For what it's worth the D1 resolution I get on my cell 4.7" phone is pretty good. On the computer (remotely), I always use the main stream. -

Sub stream is meant for low bandwidth users. Someone on a slow connection will be able to use the low bandwidth to stream and users with lots of bandwidth will be able to use the main stream. I use the main stream when I remotely connect because I have the bandwidth to do so. Why not just connect to the main stream and forget about the sub stream if you want something better than D1? Are you only planning on connecting remotely to the NVR from a cell phone or tablet? Secondly, the D1 resolution for the sub stream is a limitation of the IP camera itself and not the NVR. -

Let's see if I follow your question. Are you trying to confirm that you can change the sub-stream quality on the NVR's web interface or Q-See's software interface? If so, then the answer is yes. Take a look at the attached screenshots. Before attaching the my Hikvision cameras to my Q-See NVR, I attached them to my LAN and enabled D1 for the sub-stream and enabled 3MP on the main stream before attaching them to the NVR. From there, I am able to change the quality of the sub-stream from the NVR's software, web interface and the PSS software. -

The above statement is FALSE. Not all IP cameras will work in any browser. I have a Q-See NVR and two Hikvision cameras (makers of Swann and Lorex) and I can do everything you're asking about with the built-in software on each individual cameras (web interface), the software on the NVR itself or the web interface, plus the 3rd party software (PSS) that shipped with my NVR. In other words, you have a lot of options here. I will tell you this though, if you're new to all this, I'd consider buying the same brand NVR and Cameras to make configuration straight forward. I had to do some tweaking to get my cameras to play nice with the NVR. -
I cannot view live video from my home network.. HELP !!
atari37 replied to sekhonjatt's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
That sound like a network issue. Since you probably use the same credentials at home and at work. Do you have DDNS enabled and configured on the DVR? Has the public IP changed? Is port forwarding still configured and lastly verify that you're connecting to the right port number from home. Unlikely but perhaps you rebooted the DVR and lost some of the old configurations? -
Motion Detection misunderstanding?
atari37 replied to fixit9660's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Let's see if I can help. When motion is not detected, your NVR doesn't record. The video is streamed from the NVR to your computer browser, software or smartphone ONLY when you connect to the NVR. All the bandwidth is contained within the NVR until a request is made to view the video stream. Essentially, the live feed is shut off when nothing is connected to it. If nothing is connected to it then nothing is streamed. "And all the NVR is doing is storing that data all the time, together with a set of Motion Detection Events?" Are you sure motion detection is working? Sounds like your NVR is just recording on a schedule (all the time). How are you distinguishing motion detected recordings with normal recording? On my NVR motion recording shows up with a yellow legend and normal recording shows up with a green legend. -
By the way, I did get the motion detection feature on my cameras to work with my Q-See NVR. My cameras are Derytech branded and they were on an older firmware. I upgraded them to the latest Hikvision firmware (5.0.2), enabled motion Detect recording and set the sensitivity on the cameras themselves before attaching them to my NVR. I was then able to enable motion record on my NVR and it works. Now I need to figure out how to get the screenshots feature to work.
-
Record Delay means wait X number of seconds after motion is detected before recording kicks in. I'm not sure what the interval means. Maybe interval between recordings. So it might wait X number of seconds before starting another motion detect record?

Probably not. I don't think any of these IP cameras and NVR's work with anything other than IE because they rely on active x. You might be able to install the ie plug-in for Firefox but that will just be running IE within a Firefox tab. -

Are you by any chance doing this in Chrome? Try IE with the security settings set to low. I run into this issue with Chrome. -
