Caught on camera- landscapers behaving badly
luckyfella replied to shockwave199's topic in General Digital Discussion
I'm on your side Shock. He should have asked or not taken it at all. But, I'm just saying, more than likely, he was thinking they were garbage because they may not have fit in the garbage cans so he just thought you put them on top of the garbage. Keep in mind, they were in the garbage area, not on your front porch or rear patio. I would just let their boss know that he took something that belonged to you and you want it back. And the guy who took it, you just don't want him at your house any longer. -

Hmm, you know Shock, your my buddy, but those pieces were on top of the garbage cans so possibly he thought you were throwing them out? Did you confront him or his boss yet? -

AK, when you forward ports for your customers NVR/DVR so he can view his cameras on his phone, do you tell him that it is not a good idea or it's not safe to do that? Or, do you just forward the port and leave the cameras ports alone? If you do not give him that warning even for that single port for the NVR, than your just as guilty as I am if I do not tell my customers the risks of port forwarding. -
Couple questions mostly about remote viewing
luckyfella replied to Wallboy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Have you even tried remote viewing with low bit rate on the main stream set to 1080p? I have a crap load of clients that allow me to remote in from my laptop and I remote in using the main stream. None of my channels are maxed out on the bit rate, and the cameras hardly look any different than if they were at highest bit rate. -

I'm not sure what the issue is here? When you log in with a PC, you have the choice to view the main stream or sub stream. When you log in with your tiny cell phone using cell service rather than broadband, it uses the sub stream. Why in the world would you want to put one camera on two channels? What will that do for anyone? -

Your a real piece of work. Were we talking about schools or corporations? NO, we were not. We were talking about small residential jobs. And, he agrees with me that it's a good idea to port forward a few cameras that were installed for a house. If you want to bring up if it's a good idea port forwarding LARGE commercial jobs for big corporations or Schools, why don't you start a new topic and keep that talk out of this one? Thanks. -

The sub stream is really meant for mobile devices which are using cellular service so if the resolution is too high, your not going to see anyone moving. There will be too much data for the resolution rather than updating the image. On another note, why even bother having dual streaming if they both are able to reach max resolution? That would be a waste of programming software. And on any mobile device, ipad, iphone, samsung galaxy, adroid tablet, etc, the resolution of D1 is absolutely stunning. That's my .02 -

Maxi, I do understand that the NVR has less control over the IP camera rather than the camera itself. When I port forward my NVR, I forward the HTTP port and the TCP port, so that is two ports. When I port forward the cameras, I ONLY port forward the HTTP port so I can open IE and log into it. I do not need to log into the camera itself on my iphone or PSS. I do understand the less ports open, the better, but if we are opening two ports for the NVR, c'mon, we already started the risk of security so why not a few more ports for the cameras themselves? I go to some houses and when I log into the router, I see a whole more bunch of ports open for the home automation, and other stuff. If you guys don't want to open your ports for your cameras, than don't. No one is putting a gun to your head. But don't complain if you have to change a setting in one of the cameras or update the firmware and you have to drive an hour to your customers house to do it. As of now, I do all of that from the comfort of my living room couch so your not going to change my mind. -
Just finished this job up yesterday. I used a combo of 1.3 Dahua bullets and 1.3 eyeball domes. The bullets went on the side of the house and domes went on the roof eve, depended where I could have run the wire. Does anyone have an idea what I'll be able to do cause I have 50 clients in PSS and it won't allow me to pass 50! LOL!

The sunny setting doesn't seem to affect brightness/contrast. I checked at night time and that camera looks exactly the same as the night before. And when it changed after I clicked sunny, only the colors changed. The grass was greener and the bricks were not purple anymore. I'm keeping it as is. -

So AK, when you install a cctv system, you do not do any port forwarding at all because it's not safe? You don't port forward the dvr/nvr? -
I cannot view live video from my home network.. HELP !!
luckyfella replied to sekhonjatt's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You might have denied access for remote viewing for that user. Or, your caps lock is on, Or, you changed a network setting and thats just the mssg that comes up if you do not hit the DVR remotely. Go to your office, and check all the settings, thats all. -

Good find on that video Shock, but I think it is the same concept as the sunny. If the sunny setting still did not look good, than you can go to customize and adjust the red and blue yourself. But like you said, that might change at different times of the day, for either the sunny setting or the customize setting is the same result. -

First of all, I am not the only one asking. Second of all, I have not asked any stupid questions so watch your mouth. Third of all, if I google what you said to google, it won't tell me what the difference is if I open an NVR port only or the NVR port and a bunch of camera ports. So, I'm asking you, why is it ok to open just the NVR port, but not ok to open the NVR and a few cameras? And, technically, I am not ópening' them, I am forwarding them to an IP address. -

Shock, these are the eyeballs at night. The back of the house pretty much is very dark. -

I wasn't that concerned until you mentioned the tint, so I remoted into this one camera and set it to sunny. It looks better, no? -

I've seen the spider webs Shock. It almost seems, the higher up the camera, the more the spider wants to get to it, lol. Not one customer has complained about it yet, but I did tell one guy to clean it and he did. I'll post a night shot from the eyeballs. They work pretty good even though they have less IR's than the small bullets. I also have noticed that purple tint. On a few cameras, if I change the profile to SUNNY, that usually helps. The same thing happens with the eyeball or the bullet, btw. -

So, what is the difference between the NVR port and an IP camera port being open? -
I was driving and saw this so I had to take a pic.

This is a good fix if you have two routers. You just basically make the 2nd router a switch by turning off DHCP, and plug the internet wire in one of the ports. Than you port forward only in the 1st router supplied by your ISP. There is another way by port forwarding the ports to the 2nd router and than do your normal port forwarding, but I prefer this way as explained in this link. I just thought I'd share in case someone else had this same issue. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-basics/30338-how-to-convert-a-wireless-router-into-an-access-point

Advise noted, but I've had plenty of times the camera setting was off and the only way was to log into the camera to fix it. With just logging into the NVR, you can't adjust camera settings like exposure, shutter, day/night, etc. I do open the two ports for the NVR, IE and mobile, but I only open http port for the camera itself. Most of my installs are 4-12 cameras so a few extra ports on top of the ones you already forwarded is not the end of the world. -

Ah, who has time for that, lol. All you would see is me on an extension ladder drilling a hole and screaming at my helper in the attic telling him he better find it or go home without pay! I would like to give some installation advise though. For IP cameras, do your focusing at the VERY END. By that, I mean, run your wires, put on your cat5 ends, connect the camera, and mount and install it. Wire up your POE switches, NVR, router, etc. Get on your laptop, run an IP scan or let the NVR find each camera. Write down all the IP's. Than Log into each camera, give it a static IP. I like to start at 192.168.1.201. The NVR gets 200. The next camera gets 202, etc. Than when each camera has a static IP, let your NVR find them, than add them to their channels. Than, with your laptop on wifi, go outside, open each camera and than focus them. Once, that is all said and done, I log again into each camera. I change the http port for each camera and than I port forward each http port to each camera. This way, when I get home, I can log into the NVR or each camera itself to adjust any settings that need to be done to each camera.
