    Need Help With New System

Call and get the firmware upgrade or just shoot them an email at tech@swann.com. I have access to both my system and my inlaws system on my iphone. I used the UID for theirs and the IP for mine. Both systems seem equally fast on the iphone. I notice a difference in speed when logging in using the desktop client on my PC. Iphone seems fine using the UID.

    Need Help With New System

Update, in case anyone has the same issue. Called Swann, they gave me a link to a firmware upgrade that populated a UID into my system. Tried scanning the QR code to get access on my iPhone and still nothing. Turns out, back when I fist installed the system and was trying to get everything to work, I entered my laptop's MAC address into the "Users" field of the NVR. That made it so that only my laptop could access the system. Once I changed that MAC address back to all 0's (00:00:00:00:00), the iPhone app started working. Last week I installed my inlaws system and just used the UID to connect everything and I noticed when I access their system, it's much slower than when I access mine. Their system is using UPnP / UID setup while I did the whole port forwarding thing on mine. Accessing both systems remotely, my system is much faster when bringing up the client, switching cameras, etc....

    Need Help With New System

Hi all, didn't want to start a new thread for my question so I figured I'd ask here. I recently bought this system from costco and installed it myself. Getting the system up and running was a breeze. Hardest part was crawling around in my tiny attic to run the ethernet. The NVR is pretty quiet and sleek looking. Not that it matters since I installed in a closet that I'll be dead bolting in the near future. Also ran a long USB 2.0 cable into the attic that attaches to a backup drive that captures video. Figured this would be a good idea in case someone busted in and stole the NVR. ANYWAY.... I've managed to get everything working with the exception of the iPhone app. I can remotely access the system via the Swannview Plus Client desktop software and the web based software via the swanndvr.net domain. The instructions that came with the system made it seem that setup for remote viewing would be much easier than it actually was. Per the instructions, I should be able to just enter my systems "UID" into the software and vua' la', it should work. Even easier with the iPhone app. I'm supposed to just be able to take a pic of the QR Code. When I took the pic, a UID automatically filled the field, so the QR code sticker is working. What I noticed though is that in my system, the UID field is blank where the UID should be. Even if I click the "Send UID" button from the NVR itself, I get a blank email. So I had to do the whole port forwarding thing. Wondering if they just forgot to put the UID into my NVR? Just wanted to ask around, see if anyone had the same issue. I found another thread that mentioned changing the RTSP port to 5544. Did that, forwarded it and still no luck. I have an iPhone 4 that's running iOS7 on Verizon. Thanks in advance.
  4. Just bought the Swann system from Costco. It's on back order though. Can't wait to get it.

    System suggestions please

My order says it'll ship 10/4 as well. Might go ahead and run the ethernet prior to that. Worst case scenario. Someone breaks into your house, steals everything, including the DVR. I see the system has a USB port for a backup hard drive, as I'm sure most do. Is the best backup option to just run a long usb cable from the DVR to say the attic somewhere, where the backup HDD can be kept safe? Or are there online options that the DVR can upload video to?

    System suggestions please

went back and checked today, it was available, but on back order. Went ahead and put the order in. if something better comes around before shipping, I'll just cancel the order. Thanks.
  7. Hello, please have mercy on my n00b soul. Yesterday, my next door neighbor had their house broken into. I've been wanting a surveillance system for a while now. If for nothing else, as an added deterrent. I figure if I'm going to spend money, might as well get something worthwhile. Yesterday I started looking at Costco systems and came across this: http://www.costco.com/.product.100058520.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-categorypageHorizontalTop-_-PopularProductsInCategory&cm_vc=categorypageHorizontalTop|PopularProductsInCategory It's a Swann 8 Channel 3MP NVR Security System with 2TB HDD and 4 1080p Cameras. What I liked about it was the all in one DVR with remote access, high res and the POE capabilities. My attic is very small and hard to move around in, so the least amount of cables to run, the better. I go back online today and it's out of stock. At first I was pissed, because this same thing happened to me last week with something else I wanted to buy online. After thinking about it, it could be a blessing in disguise. For all I know, it's junk and there are better options out there for the same or less price. I'm in need of 4 cameras with night vision. I need my Driveway, courtyard, backyard and back patio covered. Any suggestions as to what system would work best for me would be greatly appreciated. My budget is 1k and under. Thank's in advance!
