    NEW CAMERA INSTALL

I had this issue before, you need at least 18 gauge wires, 16 gauge be better. Those pre-made wires are junk and will eventually go bad in a couple of months. You can use cat5e or cat6 wires and make some yourself. Use a balun connectors for video if you do go that route.
  2. im looking for a hybrid nvr system as some of my wires are cat5e and some are not currently in my analog system. Do any one know if hikvision hybrid recorder work with a poe switch? or any brand have a hybrid nvr that also support poe for the NVR cameras?
  3. can i use a video transmitter balun connector on those cheap premade thin wires that are not cat5e? these are the cheap wires i am talking about http://www.ebay.com/itm/SECURITY-CAMERA-CABLE-CCTV-WIRE-VIDEO-POWER-BNC-10FT-20FT-30FT-50FT-75FT-100FT-/290854071692?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item43b840ed8c there 3 wires in those cheap premade set which is positive for power, positive for video, and a shared negative for both video and power. is it possible to use a balun on the video wire even when the negative is shared for both video and power?
  4. sorry to hear about your situation.

you ever seen these DVR specs?

Thanks, can you explain 960H and Q960H to me? im guessing it a higher resolution? HD?
  6. hello, i currently have those cheap premade bnc cables that like 24 gauge(guessing) from ebay 60ft. Powers a cheap camera no problem but now i want to install a IR camera. I tested it with 2amp power supply and at night it gets video loss which i know is under powered from the wire. than i put a 3.5 amp power supply and it works. Is that safe? Also is it safe if i cut part of that cheap cable(where i can get access to it coming out of the wall because the rest was installed when house was renovated) and solder and shrink a cat6 wire to it? 1 pair for video and the 3 other pair for power? so a cable that starts with 24 gauge wire than half way down becoming 20 gauge wire from the 3 pairs of cat6? would that help or is that a hazard?

    under-powered cable question

your probably right, i am just going to leave it alone and use a 3.5 amp power supply to power up the camera since anything less than that wont work due to the cable being cheap.

    under-powered cable question

Your picture is likely to be unuseable. You have a fairly severe impedance mismatch (the cheapo coax supposidly 75^ & the cat 5/6 at 100^ ) If you can get it to work ok with the existing cable then do so OR as Numbnuts has said , pull in a new cable (best option) @ NUMBNUTS - good post on those voltage converters, I'll have th check em out. Any further info?. I've been making my own but they look obviuosly "homemade" & are about 3 times the size of the ones you've shown. thanks imma try, cant pull a new cable as the old stapled in and would just rip it and than i would have no wire

    under-powered cable question

thanks but is it ok to use like let say 25 ft of the cheap premade bnc cable and cut it and splice it with a cat6 cable (1 pair for video, 3 for power) ? would that be dangerous to have two different guage wire spliced together? right now i can leave it alone and use a 3.5 amp power supply which will work, but i feel like cutting whatever i can get access to that coming out of the wall and splice it with cat 6.
  10. hello, i been trying to figure out what is the problem with my cameras. Apparently i got two cameras outside that only work in the daytime and not at night. It shows video loss on my screen. The LED still appear red though at night. What strange is i put a flashlight toward the camera at night to remove night vision and video comes on. Any suggestions? also my power supply spec is input: 100-240v ~ 50/60hz 0.8A output: 12v - 2.2A
  11. hello guys, just trying find out of there any solder type connectors for cat5e? I been using those cheap premade ones something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/100FT-30M-Security-Camera-Video-Cable-Siamese-CCTV-BNC-Power-/271293480324?pt=US_Surveillance_Cables_Adapters_Connectors&hash=item3f2a59fd84 and i regret it as the connectors are always loose when connected to the dvr that if i move it the video gets distorted and have to keep moving the dvr or bnc connector to fix it. I am still adding cameras, i decided to use cat5e for whatever leftover and wonder if any1 know where i can find any type of solder bnc connectors? Also is it possible to use one cat5e cable for 2 cameras? like 2 twisted pair for the videos and 2 twisted pair for powers? camera will be 15 ft apart.

Camera works in daytime but video loss in night time?

sorry for the delay, the problem is the voltage lost due to 100 ft wire. Temporarily hooked up a cat5e and used all 4 twisted pairs for power at a closer location to the camera. I say temporarily as i am waiting for power pigtails to come in so i can solder and shrink wrap the wires before i put it outside. Thanks guys for all the advice. much appreciated.

Camera works in daytime but video loss in night time?

update: somehow i plugged back the 2a supplies for each one and i get a very faint black and white pic..sometimes it turns to static too what can be the issue?

Camera works in daytime but video loss in night time?

guys i tried a 3A power supply and still the same results. I get video lost. Works only in the daytime but once it hits dark outside it goes to video lost. I do hear the clicking to going to night vision on the camera but i just can't believe i get no picture from it, red light stays on though at night. I am using those BNC wires premade 100ft. there no options as i search through em all. Is it possible i messed the cameras up when i had those 2 cameras hooked up to a 4 way splitter, a total of 4 cameras hooked up to it (2 weak ones that doesn't need much power + the 2 that giving me problems now) to a 1.5A power supply? it was working til it got dark and next thing u know all the cameras on that splitter was giving me a blinking problem which was strange because the 2 weak ones never gave me a issue til i installed the 2 big cameras outside. The 2 big ones the IR red light kept blinking that night til i unplug it and put it on the 2.2A power supply. Than again the 2 weak cameras went back to normal after i unplug and plug everything back in so i don't know if there anymore i can do. what you guys think? so far those 2 big cameras are my daytime cameras. i am currently using another 100ft bnc wire that works with a smaller camera so im guessing the wires are good.

Camera works in daytime but video loss in night time?

ok wil update when it gets dark around here, sorry but i also forgot to say that originally both cameras was being supplied separately with their own power supply of 2.2A(each camera got their own power supply). I will now try to use a 3A to power one camera and hope. will update later thank you.

Camera works in daytime but video loss in night time?

can you please tell me what spec power supply i need, like more amp? volt? or i need the same spec but a different power supply? i found a power adapter laying around my house that have the specs of input: 100-240v -50/60 Hz, 0.8A output: 12v - 3A will this work? or will it mess up my wiring and camera if i use it? i really appreciate your help.
