to my knowledge you only need to use a 3 axis camera when you wall mount a dome camera with the dome facing out into the room instead of the dome facing towards the floor (like they way it would when you mount a dome camera to a celling.

recording resolution compared to camera resolution?
pete1606 posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
hello, I have cameras that are 420 lines of resolution. I currently have my DVR resolution set to record at D1 which is DVD quality, but I know 420 lines is not close to DVD quality. My question is am I 'wasting' space by recording at D1, also if I lower the recording resolution to HD1, will I be 'losing' detail in the recording? Peter -
Hi, I been trying to find a thread or a website that shows a comparison of what a PTZ camera video would look like at approximate distances. I cant seem to find a good resource, any suggestions would be appreciated. I see that PTZ cameras models start at 10x optical zoom. I plan on using a PTZ cam outdoors, what power optical zoom would you suggest to be able to recognize faces and be able to read license plates? I plan on mounting 15- 20 feet off the ground. Thank you Peter

Ok. I found my problem. My internal IP address changed sue to dhcp and setting up new hardware. From the router I changed the internal IP address back to what it was and I reserved it so it won't happen again

I can't believe this. Now I can't log in via the external IP address, my internal IP address while on my LAN. . I checked. My external IP address hasn't changed yet. Also I was able to send a test email via the DVR and it showed up in my email. So I know it is connected to the network and it can see the internet. What is going on?

I never got the DDNS to work. I have the remote view working using my external IP address, but not the DDNS. The DVR and website show it configured.

Hello my name is Peter. i live in New York City and we have a vacation 'home' in Pennsylvania. We had a CCTV system in PA since 2006, We learned a lot through trial and error. the reason i put 'home' in vacation home in Quotes is because it is not actually a house, but instead a travel trailer we use as a stationary vacation home. We have a DVR up there but we were never able to configure the remote access. At our permanent home we wanted to setup a CCTV system for years, a matter of fact my father when he renovated the house in the 1980's he ran coax and it appears that he also ran CAT 3 wires, which can be used for networks! i just wish he used Siamese coax cable, but for the 80's what he installed was really forward thinking. It recently became a more pressing issue to install a CCTV system at home, we believe our neighbor may have poisoned our dog by placing it in our yard, he is ok now, we just want to be able to have evidence. One of our neighbors have been putting in bogus complaints with the city, our backyard has no access from the street or any public areas as it is a row house, so the inspector would have to observe from their yard. I look forward to your advice in my upcoming posts as well as sharing the challenges and what I learned from installing cameras in a travel trailer and how I hid the wires! --------------------------- Keywords: RV caravan fifth wheel motorhome motor home fw tt mh

Tabletop Assisted Vision Camera Suggestions...
pete1606 replied to JMThomas's topic in General Digital Discussion
I forgot to mention in the second image that used the digital zoom I didn't zoom all the way in, as you can see when I took the screenshot, there is already a loss of some detail in the text. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. -
Tabletop Assisted Vision Camera Suggestions...

The fist image was taken via the software that came with the document camera. I placed the adjustable arm that the camera is on about three inches from the magazine. I did NOT use the digital zoom. I placed a ruler in the photo to give you an idea how small the text is. The photo is of an add in the back of Popular Photography magazine. the second photo is taken with the arm about 12 inches off the surface. I used the digital zoom, for this pic. As you can see putting the arm lower produces a better quality image, than the digital zoom. -
Tabletop Assisted Vision Camera Suggestions...

I have poor vision so I know what it is like. I was a teacher and as a result I began working in classrooms with document cameras. Think of document cameras as a 21-centruy overhead project, but this one is digital and the items you view do not need to be transparent like the old overhead projectors required. I bought a document camera for myself while I was in grad school to help ease eye strain from textbooks with small print. I bought an Elmo brand CO10. It is small lightweight, comes with a carrying bag, you can connect it to a TV via composite video connections or connect it to a computer via VGA monitor connection and it has a pass-thru monitor port so you only need one VGA port on your computer, but the way I PREFER to connect it is via USB! I am going to post some screenshots in a few minutes.
