none of these cards have dongles. i suppose it might just have to be trial and error with some systems. no worries really, the DVRs that we need to view from iphones are already programmed, but as an IT admin, i like everything being up to date and consistent across the board.

So as long as the dvr has 8.xx software i can upgrade to the latest version of 8.34 (that i have)? If a system has 7.xx then i cant put 8.xx software on it? Thanks rory.

anyone?

look for a program called "mouse hider" i am not on a PC with that program right now, but i was in the same boat as you. this program starts with your PC and i set it to hide the mouse, automatically, after 4 seconds. works perfect.

can't wait to try this out.

it happens random, but i see this message pop up. my only option is OK, but the box goes away on its own. our company has about 12-15 DVRs out in various locations. this started happening to two DVRs at different times within the past month. the computers are on 24/7 with battery backups and i have checked the log files, event viewer and even the nic card connection time...power never went out or even flickered off. video files still seem to record w/o any issues. i randomly picked files to view under playback and they play fine. this is what i have tried before making this thread. reboot the PCs delete all the video files in the store folder run the db repair utility. also, all video files are stored on a second hard drive in the system. i already checked the log file store location and it is set to recycle (check in the box) and the number of days option is NOT checked. any help is appreciated. thanks.

ok..nvm, i figured out what i did. i moved a large chunk of files that i didnt want to get written over to my c:. once i copied them to my external drive, i didnt delete them from the c drive. which is why the c: is filled with data. all good now, c: is back to the correct size. thanks!

btw, i did the cleanup, it only freed up 113mb of space.
-
good Actually I must be very tired, 495Mb should be more then enough for the log files. Unless the recycle bin is growing and then space is diminishing. It should not take up much at all. But still, you should do that cleanup i posted before, as 500mb is not much space left for a modern drive, there should be tons of GB left. yeah, i read that it stores 500mb before it starts to recycle. not sure how that went haywire. i navigated to c:\gv1480 like it shows and i dont see a file or files that are that large in size. something is eating up 70+ GB and i cant find it...strange.

ok, i found the log file location.
-
yeah but thats all the video Log, your error is with the System Log which is different - video log is the recorded video, system log is just a log of what the system does. Id have to check where that is located in the INI files or registry but you can change it right from the menu as in the sample image I posted. Just make sure C is clean and there is enough room on it for the system drive to exist there. From previous post you said there was only 495mb of space left? yes. 2 things 1. i didnt see your post with the picture, i am checking that next (skipped over it with all the posting we did) 2. i didnt follow your directions until i cleared up the f: location. now that we are on the same page, i am going to do what you said. this PC is ONLY for the geovision program. nothing else should be on the c drive. how big is the log file going to get? better yet, how big does it get before it starts to overwrite itself?
-
Ok then that is the video log location so yeah dont change it haha, thanks. see why i am going nuts now....

ignore the fact that i missed one folder view: f:\history1\ my bad, but the only thing you would see in there are the cameras in folder views cam01 cam02 cam03 cam04 cam05 cam06 cam07 cam08 cam09
-
here is the my computer history cam01 contents of cam01 in detail view to show that it is still recording to the f: even with the error. i only have 2 days worth of data because i deleted the contents of the history folder yesterday thinking it would fix the error. i didnt need any of the video, so the loss of video files was not an issue.
-
upload the multi.ini file somewhere .. Its been a while but I dont think that logentry is the recording. . but I could be wrong. Also, what folder did you set for recording? history1 doesnt sound like something to be used for video. I dont have a complete multi.ini file here to reference and I would need to go digging through external drives and my code for one from before .. i created the history1 folder on my own... that is what i have.

Log Entry has nothing to do with the video store. What was taking up all the space on C? i dont know man...all my video is recording to the f: like the ini file says. i will grab a screen shot for you in a few min...this is nuts! according to geovision program, f: is my video store location. i will take a screen shot of the box. i have never had this issue before and this isnt my first DVR.
-
Yes thats it right there, change it to LogEntry0=C:\GV1480\ Save, make sure Geo is not running, or restart. Did you clean up the C drive and make sure the video is not recording to that? huh? the f drive is my video store...i want the video to record to the f:. now i am really confused.
-
here is part of the .ini file [General] LogLocationNum=1 LogEntry0=F:\history1\ WorkEntry=0 InstallPath=C:\GV1480\GV1480.exe

You should be a ble to change it under the log settings section .. I dont have a geo here to be able to say where exactly it is but its there somewhere with the other log settings. Optionally you can open C:\Windows\GeoMulti.ini and change the log folder there also. yeah, strange, i will look again, but i didnt see it. only for the video log, which is why i was confused on where it was being saved. i am going to try your optional method right now. thanks.
-
thanks for the post rory. i am still a little confused. how am i able to change the default store of the log file? i clearly see how i am able to relocate the log file for my video files, but that is obviously different. thanks.

i am looking at a DVR with 8.01 software. not sure where to change it here. the only thing i can see to change is the video log. i suppose since this was the only field i could actually change to a location other than the c:, i thought it was for the log file as well. if anyone knows how to change it in 8.01 i would appreciate the help. my c drive is 96GB in size and i only have 495 remaining (all video storage records to my 500GB or 1TB drive, not sure which one is in the system off hand, which is F: in this environment), so yes, something is recording to the c: but i only knew of one area to change it in under GeoVision.
-
that is what i thought as well, but when i check to see where the file goes, it shows the f: drive, which is the same drive i record the video files to. well, that is what i am forced to believe. unless the geovision programmers did a poor job of coding the interface. i am going to double check now. Thanks.

here is a screen shot of the error. Thanks. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5950/errorc.jpg

ahh, ok, gotcha. yes, you are correct then, i can verify this. i had a system with the old 6.0 software, maybe early 7.x that had a dongle...my mistake. thank you, i learned something. for me, it doesnt matter, my customers dont know what a dongle or pigtail is, however, i am a little embarrassed since i couldn't tell between the 2.

Hi,well the post is from 2007, but still I havent seen any cards yet that come with a dongle. I cant vouch for the 8.3.2+ though and Ive only installed 8.3 once when I had no choice (yes i prefer 8.12 so the older ones will stay with that). I understand you might need one if you are paying for 3rd party IP camera support. Are you sure you are not getting a "dongle" mixed up with the "pigtail"? i might be...what is a dongle? i am talking about the black vga 1-8 and blue 9-16 blue cable (with VGA Connector)...i assumed that was the dongle? also, i did buy a newer system that had 1-16 on ONE dvi connector. i have purchased a range of systems 7.x up to 8.3 all with the cables/dongles i described above. but you might be right, i might be mixing up dongle with something else. i just got a card last week...PCIe on the card itself (for the mobo) and i got the black 1-8 anf blue 9-16 cables, with VGA connector into the geo card. thanks
