    Why Port forward over VPN?

well, it depends where you want to access your cams from... we have some DVRs where customers connect to view their hardware being worked on. for that, we are not going to set them up on a VPN connection. also, they are given a specific user/pass that only display the camera they need to be looking at. now, if you are setting up a DVR and you want to give access to yourself or a boss at home...then sure, setup a VPN, it works just fine. i have a few VPN tunnels setup to other offices and that is how i view those specific DVRs remotely.
  2. ok, this is a strange one for me. i am installing a 16 channel DVR system and the client wants each camera on its own TV channel in the house. my only job on this project is to supply the DVR, if it can do what he wants it to do. if it cant, he is going to use another company, which is fine by me. is it possible to take the latest Geovision software/DVR and output each camera on its own channel? i know the DVR comes with a video composite out, but that will only output what the main unit is displaying. in this case, he wants each camera to have it's own channel. can i split the video feed? meaning, before i connect it to the DVR, can i send one video feed to the DVR and the other to the TV switching unit? i hope this makes sense to you guys, if not, please ask questions. thanks

Geovision on a Blackberry world edition

i would love to get geovision remote view on an iphone.
  6. i have 2 dvr systems, off site, that i need to monitor in ONE program. i have not been able to find any software that will do this. i like geovisions remote view software, however, you can only connect to 1 DVR at a time and i don't think i am able to run two instances of this program. any ideas? thanks
  7. thank you, i will try this, it looks pretty simple. does multiview need the standard web ports open to work properly? or does it need different ports? i know tcp/ip uses different ports, thats why i ask. thanks again.
  8. i am still curious about the person above who said multiview can support multiple connections.
  9. i thought about doing that, but i wasn't going to bring it up until someone else did... does centerv2 record as well? i think it does, but i am not sure. however, i can just do what you said and minimize the main DVR camera program.
  10. i would like to watch 2 cameras from 1 dvr and 2 cameras from another dvr. so 4 total.
  11. sorry guys, i will try to give more details. one of my DVR systems has dual monitors. on the left monitor, i display the DVR cameras, the actual cameras that plug into that DVR. on the right screen, i am running multiview and i connect to another DVR system, which is off site, and i make that program run full screen on the right monitor. center v2 will NOT work for me because it defaults to the left hand screen where the geovision program is also locked down to. multiview would work PERFECT for me if i were able to give it 2 sets of IP addresses, users names, and logins. please ask any questions if you have them. thanks

    Geovision default software...

so do i, but the interface is garbage...u cant move it, u cant do anything....and when i poll 2 views, i want them to be full screen and it wont do that... i am using the demo mode of rory's but when i do video polling i cant figure out how to poll 2 cameras in a 7 cam system... i sent him a pm on it, but no response just yet.
  13. i am not a fan of the geovision software thats included with the card. it doesnt let me move the control panel, instead, it just parks it on the left side of my screen and i dont like this look. do any of you guys use other software to view your cameras remotely other than what geovision gives you? thanks.

    Geovision default software...

well let me clarify... the software for the pc itself is great.... i am refering to the remote software... i dont like the remote interface, it just site parked on the left side of the screen you guys know what im talking about right? btw, i disagree, i think you are paying for the card. i can get the software for free online. its the card that i cant get for free. but i dont want to talk about that, these DVRs are for my company, so i dont pay for them. thanks.

    Geovision default software...

so everyone uses the software that comes with the geovision card??
  16. I have 5-6 different versions of GeoVision DVRs and when i take video footage, typically a .avi file, and try to play it back, i have problem viewing it on a pc other than the original DVR it was taken from. i was told by my vendor that i needed to navigate to the program files directory and take a file called InstallCodec and i need to install that on any pc that i want to view my video on. however, if i update a new codec i lose the function of watching my video files from a different version of GeoVision. now, i find it hard to believe that i am the only user out there with multiple GeoVision DVRs that has 1 main PC where video needs to be watched on. is there a player that can play multiple types of GeoVision files? is there a codec that works with different versions of GeoVision? if anyone is confused i can explain in greater detail. thanks
  17. thanks, that seems to play more than windows media player can. however, with a few files, from a specific geo vision pc which i dont have the version number for at this moment, it freezes up and asks me to send an error report. basically it installs the codec when you open it, if it isnt already registered, but not the 2 codecs i mentioned above. If you can find out which Geo is giving the error, and what codec it was recorded in, let me know. Thanks. BTW, it actually uses Windows Media Player, whichever is installed on your PC. Rory well, the player that i got from your link works and windows media player does not. so im not sure whats going on. i am trying to watch these videos on the same pc.
  18. thanks, that seems to play more than windows media player can. however, with a few files, from a specific geo vision pc which i dont have the version number for at this moment, it freezes up and asks me to send an error report.
  19. ok, my latest dvr system is version 8.1 if you don't mind, please walk me through some steps to get to the same screen you are referring to. thanks.
  20. im not trying to be picky, but did you mean settings button? i dont see a tab, just a circle icon and it says settings if i leave my mouse rolled over it. i am in the view log screen right now (f10) once i click the settings button, i dont see save as exe. i am either in the wrong are, or i dont have a compatible version. edit, one of the DVRs i tried this on is version 8.01 i will try another dvr and report back. thanks
  21. i have had vlc for about 3 years now. video doesnt work in it. if i drag the .avi file in there, nothing happens...
  22. im not sure what versions i have. some of the systems were purchased 1 year ago and then the rest were purchased at different times between the last 8 months. i realized the purchase date doesnt matter all that much, however, my vender typically has the latest stuff ordered for me when i place a new order. im not sure if i have seen the backup feature you are talking about, but i do know that i can burn video files through the program. however, they will play on the pc just fine, but when i go to another pc and it doesnt work i need to grab a codec. and this is ok, but it seems that my pc can only handle one geovision codec at a time. either that, or it only recognizes the latest codec and doesnt let me roll back to the previous one. im suprised that geo vision doesnt have a player that contains all of their codecs. this is just a pain for me since i have to pull video from multiple dvrs and when i bring it back to the office, out of the 5 or 6 recordings i have, i can only get playback on 1-2 if i am lucky... thanks

    Connecting Client

if it is a linksys router you should be able to change the management port from 8080 to anything else. likewise, you can change the port of the dvr program you are using.
