great post. i am sure that helped out the OP. i have seen/used better systems, yes, but i wouldn't call GV crap. i have installed/maintained 20+ GeoVision DVRs. pretty solid. i reserve the word crap for the all in one units (bundled for ~$600). stay away from those.

nobody is saying not to tinker, but i think the overall consensus is that if this is a live/production DVR then it isn't really a good idea to implement an OS that isn't supported.

i dont think anything was wrong with my windows 7 64 bit install. the error message i got specifically said something about 32 bit and 64 bit. i know the goevision software is 32 bit and the OS was 64 bit and i guess i just assumed they didnt want to play nice with e/o. once i switched to a 32 bit OS, the remote view client loaded up w/o any errors. although i wasnt using the two programs you are linking above. i never had an issue with DMMultiview on a 64 bit OS, i was trying to install the remote playback/view program.

i upgraded a computer on our network to windows 7 64 bit and when i went to install the geovision remote view program it pops up an error saying that it isnt compatible and that i need to check if my pc is 32 bit or 64 bit. this computer only needs to run the remote view client for playback purposes. is there a 64 bit friendly version out there? i did try right clicking on the setup file from the cd and selecting it to run in windows xp sp3 compatibility, but i assume it still uses the 64 bit portions of my OS to do that which is why it still fails. any updated software or am i stuck going back to xp sp3 with 32 bit or downgrading to win7 32 bit? i still have the old computer with xp and remote view on it, i was trying this on a new computer that was going to replace the old one. thanks.

a call to AT&T to ask them about a feature/program that 1% of their users (probably less) need fixed, i'd say don't waste your time. are you on the default port 80 for the web server? not that it matters, but just curious and you never know...

I think that all my server side settings are fine, as I can connect remotely thru my old 3G phone, and can connect remotely thru a PC with DMMultiView or using a browser. The only thing that I'm not sure about is port 5511. What is that port for? port 5511 is on the mobile tab in the web server settings. i should also state that my phone is not rooted, stock s2 with 4g from tmobile.

also, when you are connecting to wifi, are you on the same network as the geovision DVR? or have you tested at a different network with wifi and had it work?

here are the ports i have open for geovision for the web server- 81, 4550, 5550, 3550 for gviview- 8866, 5511 also, you need to make sure you have the proper changes made on the server side: web server settings, click on the mobile tab and make sure it is enabled, this is the tab that has 8866 and 5511 as the default ports. there is a jpeg tab and under that make sure to select the option to 'create a jpeg' the obvious one (but i will state it anyway) is the server tab, make sure the server is running and that the http, command, and data ports are accurate. the only port i change is the dvr from port 80 to 81. finally, make sure the ports are opened/configured properly in your router/firewall.

i just did a test: i have the s2, tmobile, using 4g right now, and had 0 issues at all loading up 3 saved geovision sites on my phone. no errors, said connecting for a few seconds and then all the camera views popped up.

if i were the one operating the computer i wouldnt have a problem doing that. i ended up installing windows 7 pro 32 bit and the program installed w/o any issues.

i have the galaxy s2 from tmobile and i have 2 geovision DVRs connected to my phone and have had 0 issues viewing the streams from my phone. i am using port 81 vs the default port 80.

i think rory has the geovision software on this site. as long as you have the card information you should be able to download the software today.

1. this all depends on 3g coverage, but even with decent coverage it will probably still lag. 2. there are plenty of GPS providers that offer real time tracking and there is probably some free or cheap tracking hardware/software you can buy to do this. 3. not sure what you are asking here.... 4. pretty simple. put a wifi card in the PC/DVR unit and get the bus within range of the wifi and login and start downloading the files to the local network. i really think you are asking for a lot out of the 3g card.

a friend has a swann DVR in his shop and he had a company run cameras, wire, configure the DVR (swann DVR), etc...but when it comes to networking/static ip's, port forwarding, etc...he didnt have any networking equipment installed at the time, in his shop. i work full time and i work with systems that were well out of his price range, which is why i didn't do the install/buy the equipment. of course every piece of documentation is sitting in a dumpster. i have already statically assigned the DVR the following IP: 192.168.1.2 and opened the following ports in his router: 9000, 81, 18004 and forwarded them to 192.168.1.2 i can access the DVR from the web browser by going to http://hisDDNShostname:81 (client running on his PC updates the IP when it changes) i login with the user name/password i setup in the DVR and everything works great i downloaded the swann DVR app on his iphone and logged in and see camera views, but this is where the problems occur. it asks me for port # and max channel i assumed the port was 9000 because that is what it showed me on the browser when i logged in and i dont know what max channel is. is it asking me how many channels i want accessible on the iphone? he has the 8 channel dvr with 7 cams. when it works, it seems to only work some of the time. i know that his no-ip account is working properly because i am able to test it from my web browser in a different location. if no-ip wasn't working, i wouldn't have been able to see his cameras off site. i am wondering if i have all of the ports open for the mobile device/app (swann dvr for the iphone), maybe i missed something? has anyone setup a swann dvr for web/iphone access? here is a pic of the router settings i am logged in, off site right now, and these are the settings i see on his DVR service port: media port and web port:

I hear that. Geo and multimonitors still present a challenge after all these years. You should be able to just slide the app around from monitor to monitor. Instead you have to run that little app (DMPos.exe) to move Geo from one monitor to the other. I've never liked how Geo is locked into their screen layouts with no customization either. I keep wondering when Geo will improve some things. I should write to them. I've read a few reviews of Exacqvision Start and it seems impressive. Has there been any in depth reviews comparing it to Geovision? comparing it to GeoVision, i cant say i know of any. personally, i dont even have geovision and exacq on the same level. i am not calling myself an expert with GeoVision or Exacq, but i feel that i know more about exacq and i have only been using it for a fraction of the time. both are PC based and both have hybrid servers available, but something about exacq clicked for me. alot of the integrators i have worked with have never heard of geovision, and i know that doesnt always mean anything, but it isnt even on their radar.

Phasing out GeoVision? Great Dastardly Dongles! What are you phasing into if I can ask? I do have a DMMultiview connection question as well. Does anyone know what .ini commands are available to add to both multiviewhostinfo.ini and multiviewcustomize.ini? For instance, when I connect to DMMultiview, I'd like it to remember that I want Resolution displayed on each panel (presently I have to right click on each panel and select it manually per Multiview seesion and that's a pain in the elbow). I'm guessing the multiviewcustomize.ini might have a way to make resolution be listed for all cams, and other nice items. converting to Exacq Vision too many things that i cant do in GeoVision. with exacq i can do the following: -rapidly deploy the client -launch multiple instances of the client on my screen (if i have 3 monitors, i can launch the program 3 times and put 1 instance on each monitor and once i do that i can --adjust each monitor to whatever layout i want) -lock the computer that is recording (cant do this with GV). with Exacq, the 'recording server' runs as a windows service. as long as the computer is on, it is recording. i know you can set GV to auto launch and login or even minimize, but once the computer is locked i have had issues with GV locking up/freezing. -better options/programs for remote viewing.

yeah, that makes sense (your issue) there was a layer of security not allowing the program to connect. my issue isnt a/v related. it isnt really a big deal, we are phasing out GeoVision and it isnt a huge deal to close the program and connect to another site from the drop down list. it saves the creds so aside from some extra clicks, not worth it to look into. glad to hear your issue is resolved.

i have been having issues with dmmultiview as well, i even created a post in this forum. my issue was that it didnt let me auto connect to site 2 if i initially launched multiview with site 1 credentials. -all my sites have the same creds -for the past 3 years i never had any issues, just started in the last 6 months. -the odd thing is that if i close multiview and reconnect with the site that it wasnt allowing my to link from within the program (giving me the authentication error) it works just fine. -i have never updated my software, so i cant blame it to anything that is buggy/beta software -i also tried reinstalling the program, it worked for a few logins and then it came back to the same errors not trying to hijack the thread, just giving some information. have you checked the server/login settings to make sure there were no typos? i know this is probably very unlikely, but it is a start.

with the 360 degree camera i am using, the NVR sees it at 4 separate feeds (only 1 ethernet cable from the camera to the network switch) so i have camera 1, 2, 3, 4. so yes, i am able to capture/extract just 1 view if i needed to. EDIT- i dont know if the camera i am using is compatible with GeoVision. i dont want to get off topic in a GeoVision forum, but i am not using this camera in GeoVision.

i dont know more info about the OP or his setup, i guess i should have asked that before i made my comment. i use geovision cards at work. we probably have about 15 DVRs spread out throughout or company properties. i dont have a spare geovision card to use for testing. i suppose if the OP does, then it is a different story. i would never take a production system and try to get windows 8 to run on it. i am not saying the OP is doing that, just stating my opinion.

Well, as groovyman notes, from an administrator's perspective, there's always benefit to figuring out what will and won't work, just because you don't know what you're going to run into. But you're right, until GV comes up with some software features that specifically takes advantage of something Win8 provides, there's little point in getting too excited about it. GV will still run fine on Win7 *or* XP, and a DVR should *ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS* be run on a dedicated system, so even on a new machine that comes with Win8, there's no excuse to not just blow it away and start clean. As it is now, the only advantage Win7 has over XP is the ability to use >4GB RAM (and that, only with Win7x x64)... and I have yet to see a compelling case for needing >4GB RAM in a DVR in the first place (matter of fact, I have old Vigil boxes out in the field still running happily on W2K and 512MB RAM). And of course, there NO cause to get so worked up about something NOT working in a pre-release OS when there's no official support for that OS. New OS, not on the market, and hardware that has no manufacturer support for that OS yet... again, it's the EXPECTATION that it WON'T work. right i agree. from an IT/administrator perspective, figuring out the bugs is critical, but there has to be a reason/need for it (in my opinion, in order for me to spend time on it). if it is an application that my co-workers need then absolutely start testing. but for a DVR system that records video....if it aint broke, dont fix it.

and what is bothering you ? nothing at all just giving my opinion. has geovision announced that their cards are compatible with a non released OS? if they have, my apologies, i hope someone can help you ad i hope that you find an issue for your problem. good luck.
