is it working fine in xp? if so, leave xp on the system. are you using the pc for camera monitor and using it as a day to day pc? i dont recommend doing that, it will get you in trouble.
-
this seems to be a very common issue. VNC should NOT be used to remote view the cameras. even if you do get it to show your cameras, viewing them in vnc vs the proper program/browser is probably going to consume more bandwidth and produce lag.
-
login to the IP camera via web browser and rotate the images in there, assuming you can see the individual camera views in the browser. however, be careful because doing that might change the way it sends it to GeoVision, i am not sure how that works, but nothing to worry about, you can change the views back to normal.
-
for starters, dont use VNC to view your cameras like that. i have VNC on my geovision DVRs, but i dont use that for remote view, i use it to make changes to the DVR, reboot, etc... to view them, remotely, use the proper tools/software. web browser mobile apps multiview

not sure why anyone would try to use hardware/software for an OS that is -not 100% released/launched -not supported by geovision (at this time)
-
no problem, glad to hear that everything is back to normal.

do you see the geovision program in your start menu under startup? if you go to start, run, type 'msconfig' w/o quotes and press enter and click on the startup tab, do you see it in that list with a check in the box? yes it is in the menu with a tick in the box i can start the application manually from the start menu without a problem but i want it to start up automatically after any power outage , with or without a UPS hooked up to it . It had rebooted without a problem for ages. any other suggestions ? you might have overlooked 1 thing (although, i dont think it will matter since you said it is ticked in the msconfig screen). i was asking if it is in the startup folder in the start menu? if it is, great that is good. here is what i would do... delete it from the startup folder, go to msconfig and uncheck it for startup...apply, save, dont reboot. launch geovision and change the auto startup setting...disable it/uncheck the box. save, stop recording and close the program. reboot (it should not start up, due to the settings you changed). launch geovision, enable the auto restart setting in geovison, stop recording, close the program. before you reboot, check the start menu and see if the program put itself back in the startup folder and check msconfig and see if it auto checked the box for startup. if not, manually do that and reboot and see what happens.

this is one reason that i am puzzled by GeoVision and their software. scenario... user has a PC...off site not connected to any networks (via VPN) that i am trying to connect to site 1 site 2 site 3 site 4 site 5 on the users PC, i have installed and configured the geovision multi vew program. all sites can connect w/o any issues when i double click the program and select them from the drop down menu (i logged in initially with site 1 and went to the add server option and added the other 4 sites, host name, ip, ports and i clicked SAVE. for anyone who is familiar with multiview you know that on the right hand side you can expand your hosts and normally you can double click on any host and the cameras for that host should launch in the window. this is not my first time setting this up and i have triple checked the information (which i know is right because if i launch the program and choose site 4 from the drop down, it loads w/o any issues. when it does fail, i see the following message in red in the multiview program. "password error....login failed" again, not sure how this is possible, when i select from the drop down menu when i first launch the program it connects and i see all the same. very, very strange. also, login from Internet Explorer works w/o any issues. thanks.

update i deleted all of the hosts from the setup/config screen in multiview and added them in, again. everything worked for one login attempt (connecting to each location one time) and after that i get the same results. and just to confirm, i have the latest gv software (i think it is the latest, i got it from their site a few months ago). when i test it on another computer, i get the same issues. this doesnt make any sense. i dont even think i have dont any windows updates on the other geovision systems. what i cant figure out is how it stops working (on multiple PCs) when nothing was changed? very strange. thankfully logging out and logging in, selecting a diff site, still works (with the stored credentials) or else these owners might start to move away from GeoVision. actually, i have already started moving them away from GeoVision, but some of the sites won't be upgrading for a long time, so we are stuck with GeoVision at those locations, for now.

Wish I had only 1 reason to be puzzled by GeoVision software. Multiview is a shabby piece of code. They really need to upgrade it some day. I tested out GV-NVR 8.5.4.0 Multiview and was amazed to see they still don't have multi-monitor support (web version at least). Maybe some day. rather than saying this is one reason, i should have said this is another reason... i am glad that it is not just me. the really sad part is that it was working at some point and one of the sites that i monitor/admin has a savvy user who called me for some help and i am having a hard time convincing that person that the code is having issue when it has been working fine for the past x months. haha, those are the things that make me laugh. we literally changed 0 settings. oh well...that's life.

i guess after i think about it (and briefly speaking to him) he doesnt mind if he has to view the cameras one at a time. in fact, he told me he mainly cares about two cameras. again, i really wanted to make sure i wasnt missing anything. it doesnt look like i am. if the proprietary app has flaws, i done expect 3rd party apps to work any better. i guess the point is, the software/router are configured properly. -

what other apps do you recommend? i am not going to search and starting trying them one by one. if you recommend one or a few, i will try them out. however, the main purpose for this thread was not to find a 3rd party program, but to make sure i did everything right with the native program. -

ok here is what i figured out after some more troubleshooting. the issue is the crappy app. i just installed the app on my droid device and i had no issues adding 4 cameras to the first 4 view screen 1,2,3,4 and i can get all 7 cams to connect, but on the droid app, i cant get to the second screen that shows view 5,6,7,8. on the ios device, even though i tell the system it has 8 cameras, i still see 4 screens with 4 views on each screen. when i cycle, i have to go through 4 screens of 4 views. with the droid app, i can see that there are only two screens, but i cant cycle through them, it only stays on the first screen. i see the button that has an arrow over to the next screen, but it doesnt change my view. unless there is another button i am not seeing, i just think this app needs some work. i guess i set everything up right and i am not missing any ports, which is good to know. -

not sure, i am not on site. when i am connected to his wifi, on the same LAN as the DVR, i can get all the views to pop up in the correct places. but when you are connected to the LAN, ports dont matter. this is why i think it has to do with ports, but after reading the PDF, i have confirmed i have been using the correct ports. thanks. -

i must have done a bad job of explaining this. the program gives you 4 screens with 4 views on each screen. to my knowledge, swann sells 8 and 16 channel DVRs. that means that if you have a 16 channel dvr you can view 4 cameras on each view. double tapping a camera in the quad view takes it to full screen. since my friend has 7 cameras, he should be able to view 4 on 1 screen and 3 on another screen. the problem is that i can only get 1 camera to pop up in the 1,2,3 or 4 square view. lets say i get it in spot 3, i have no problem viewing all other cameras in that spot, but only one at a time. i highly doubt that is normal behavior after seeing it first hand and reading the PDF above. -

thank you for posting that PDF. unfortunately, i had it configured the same as the PDF and i am still having the same issue. i can only get one cam to pop up on the app. i can cycle through all the cameras, but only in 1 window in the app. i have tried adding a camera to spots 1,2,3, but they only pop up in spot 4. not sure what else to try if the port information is accurate. thanks. -

yes thats right. all this needs to be set on the app before you can connect. port 80 or 81 is no good for iphone. 18004. ill find a old spec for you the iphone is asking for: 1 device name 2 address 3 port 4 user id 5 pass 6 max channel what i have tried: 1 business name 2 ddns host name 3 18004 4 hisname 5 his pass 6 8 i am using 18004 read above yes, i have set this info in the DVR. -

i take it you missed my first post. i phone you have to use port 18004. and the manual also tells you. so my first post you need port 18004 did it work ??? nope, not working. the iphone is asking for: 1 device name 2 address 3 port 4 user id 5 pass 6 max channel what i have tried: 1 business name 2 ddns host name 3 18004 4 hisname 5 his pass 6 8 sine i am using port 81 instead of 80, which is open, i tried ddns hostname:81 and that didnt work, either. its funny, every other system i have worked with that has proper documentation is a breeze to setup. -

the app for the iphone is made from swann. i have not tried support, trying to avoid that if i can. i can only get to his shop on the weekend and i'd rather not have to call support. however, if nobody on here has worked with swann DVRs, directly, then i might have no choice but to call support. -

exactly, which is why i made this thread. ok so did it fix it ?? what? i have a swann dvr w/o documentation. in the first post i took screen shots of all the settings i configured based off of what i was able to find in the system. since i dont normally work with swann dvr, i am trying to see if someone has worked with them, more than i have, and can guide me in the right direction. thanks. -
