what kind of DVR? what kind of router? if there is no router, that isnt a good thing, but you wont have to open ports, so setup will be easier. i highly doubt it isnt connected to a router, but i have seen it before, so i figured it doesnt hurt to ask.

Networking through mobile hotspot - Sprint????
tomdlgns replied to need2shave's topic in Computers/Networking
1. you dont need a static IP address if you have dynamic addres, you can use ddns service 2. it depends on the device 3. sprint is true unlimited if you are grandfathered in. i have 15 sprint devices on my network (not the exact device you are asking about) and 5 of them are true 100% unlimited. the rest are capped at 5GB/month. i have seen some mobile wifi devices that allow you to open ports and i have seen others that dont let you open ports. -
i just finished the upgrade. when it came time to install the new drivers, it told me that there was also a firmware update. 1.4x to 1.55? or something like that? i didn't pay attention to the numbers, but it was successful and asked for a reboot. i installed the software and tweaked a few settings. what didnt stick from the old system: the specific settings for the users. it saved the users, but not all the specifics (network stop, monitor stop, etc..) no biggie, there were only a few options i had selected. the video mask for one camera (i only had it set for one camera). i had to go select the area of the camera that i didnt want it to monitor for recording...that only took a few seconds. i already opened ports in the router (8866 and 5511) for gv-iview and i tested it on my mobile device...works great. the only thing i have a question on...CCS (i assume control center server/service) service starts running in the systray, and i see CCS in the geovision side panel (right), but it is not checked to start with either of the users...only the web service is. i can press c to stop/end it, but why is it starting in the first place? i must be missing a check box somewhere...? thanks.

gotcha. i have noticed that old settings are saved. in some upgrades i did a while back, so i know what you are talking about, but yes, simple setup. i think a fresh install is always better, but i was just going off of what someone posted above. although, they havent been back to post...so who knows. i was just curious. i will probably go with a clean install next time i am on site.

ok, thanks i will try/read this. 1. why do I need to backup? i only have a handful of cameras and i can easily rename them and enable/configure the web server...very easy to set this up. 2. can i simply install the mobile phone package/feature? that is what i care about the most. thanks.

no, that is not the right way to do it. you should not be viewing the cameras over a remote desktop program. enable the geovision web server and open some ports in your router...you will get better results. I'm Sorry for the confusion. You are right about your advice. Except in my case the customer is using a MAC computer to view the cameras and the only way to view multiple cameras at once is through remote desktop software. My bad for not explaining that at the begining. If you know a way to do this without remote desktop software, I would be happy to learn how. When I last checked with tech support they said I could only view one camera at a time and viewing recorded video was not availible for MAC's. ok, got it. since the safari browser can only view one camera, you are having them remote in to see the actual desktop which shows whatever view you want. not ideal, but it looks like it works for them. the only down side is that some remote programs will change the colors/not display everything properly so you might see something that doesn't look right/normal. but i do understand what you are talking about.

I agree 100 percent. I don't bother with dhcp reservation, I just statically assign it an ip address that is outside the dhcp range/scope.
-
exactly...this is where it gets a little tricky because: 1. some routers have different phrasing on port forwards 2. some all in one routers/modems from the ISP dont give you alot of port forwarding options 3. sometimes the easiest step is forgotten... turning on the webservice in geovision. also, you dont need a static PC on your LAN, but i recommend it, especially since you are opening ports. if you open ports to 192.168.1.108 (geovision PC) and the IP changes to .109, your DVR wont be accessible over the internet.

i am trying to help a friend get this card working. quick story. a friend of mine purchased a used PC from a friend of his for cheap...not sure the price, but he needed a 'shop' computer so something basic that could get online is all he needed. i have done some work with GeoVision cards/DVRs and when i saw the back of the PC i spotted what i believe to be a legit GeoVision card. of course the PC was given to him with every program uninstalled. i have to assume it wasnt a reformat because the D: drive had one folder in it...'history' which i have always know to be a GeoVision thing (maybe i am wrong...but didn't GeoVision name their storage folder history?). all of my GeoVision cards have a sticker on them identyfing the hardware/card type, but this one doesnt have it. these are the quick pictures i took, but i am not sure if they will help. i have the 8.5 software and i tried installing 600, 600b, 800, 900, 1120, 1240 (the numbers might be a little off i am going from memory), etc....and when i launch the program i get the 'this card doesn't match with the software....' error. could it be that this isnt a geovision card? my buddy did put a call into the person who he bought it from, but all that person could confirm was that the cameras were working when the computer was disconnected (business closed down and the owner was selling parts)... any help is appreciated. i can try to take a pic of something specific if someone needs to see a more detailed image of a certain part of the board. thanks.

be careful testing with a short cable and assuming it will work with a longer cable. not with geovision, but i have tested with short runs, maybe 15-25ft and had great results. i extended the run another 50 ft to get to my destination and i didnt have signal. i had to buy a long range cat5 to x converter. in my case it was cat5 to vga. the convert works great...a really long vga cable didnt work so well. however, i am still confused on what you are trying to do. isnt the dvi on the geovision card for video out?

How do I got about setting up remote view without a static I
tomdlgns replied to MRWHITE35's topic in Geovision
what rory said will work, but the other thing, about dyndns.org, is that you can get a hostname for 20/year (i think, maybe 30...?) a few dollars a month isn't really a big deal, is it? pretend it is another tank of gas (or half tank, depending on where you live/what you drive. ) -
took the card/pc back to my friend and told him that i couldn't really help him. i showed him some pictures of a legit card i had and once he saw the pictures he started to realize that something wasn't right with his card. i figured i would post back to end this topic. thanks for the help.

are you at one of the two sites right now? i have a small LCD monitor that i use for troubleshooting cables AT the geovision DVR. if GeoVision displays lost video and the camera has power, the first thing i do is unhook the video cable from geovision and plug into my LCD monitor. if i get video there, then there is something wrong at the DVR end. if i dont see any video on my LCD, then i know the issue isnt with geovision. at that point, i start checking power and video connections. in the past, a cut cable, for me, usually means a blown fuse as well. so if power supply looks ok, then i either have a bad camera or a bad video connector. but i know hardware setups are not the same for everyone. for example, i have used power supplies that dont have fuses, so you'd need a meter to see if you have voltage coming through on the other end, assuming your cable isnt cut.

can i get some guidance in upgrading this geovision software? either the entire software or just the portion i want to enable for mobile phones...? thanks. this is a legit system and the last thing i want to do is install a software package that isn't compatible with my card.
-
Not that I want to do this but I have to ask....how do they get clone cards working? I only ask because I know the first thing my friend will tell me is that the previous owner had it working so it must be real... do they use generic camera software? Thanks

ok stick with your 8.01 and download the updates i.e mobile. it just would have been alot easier to have followed what GEO software was telling you to do. you will find the patches on the same site i am trying to keep this easy, but i must have missed something because i didnt see a link to download updates. also, i didn't realize that i could download/install just the mobile portion of the program. thanks.
-
hi. yes it will also give you the link to the software 8.01. i know you say you have that but it has new features. plus it will verifi your card .... then run it again and see if you can use a pen to update further. What? I don't follow what you are saying. I ran the program and it tells me my card is legit and that I can upgrade to 8.01, but I already have 8.01. Thanks

is there any way of telling? let's assume it is a legit GV card...does it matter which version/type i select to install? if it does, there has to be better way to determine what type of hardware i have here. thanks also age can tell. your cards must be over 3 years old (you have no geo holigram) also geo mark there matrix chip with which card it is. if you reinstall the card and run this on the system you will know if you have a clone or not. http://www.remote-security.com/update/Detection_Tool_en8010.zip i missed the part about the matrix chip in your post. are you saying geovision marks the chip, regardless of age, or they started marking them in the last 3 years. all legit cards i have worked with have had a sticker identifying the type of card it is, but it has been a while since i have had my hands on a card that was older than 3 years. i have been working with geovision cards for about 5 years, i just cant remember the exact layout of the cards off hand. thanks.

i just ran this file on a legit system. in order to run it, i had to drop it into the GV directory. the computer i took this ? card from doesnt have GeoVision installed. how can i run the program to see if it is a legit card if i cant drop it into a geovision directory that doesnt exist? thanks.
-
it says i am eligible to upgrade to 8.0. is that right? since i am already running 8.01? also, the directions said, "i can upgrade to 8.01" again, i am slightly confused since i am already running 8.01 thank you.
-
ok, i am on site now so i will run it. and yes, i already saved it to my dropbox account. i didnt think to use it, i assumed it was only for identifying bad cards. thanks. also, can you fix your post (for future visits to this thread)? it looks like you did a copy paste of the link, which the forum shrinks (i think) so it is trying to use .... in the url.

8.5 MultiView and windows 7 64 bit
tomdlgns posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
client purchased a new PC: win 7 pro 64 bit pc is running w/o any issues. he had multiview on his old PC, xp, that he would use to connect to his two DVRs (not on site) that worked for a few years w/o any issues. on his new computer, win 7 pro 64 bit, i tried installing ddmultiview.exe from geovision 8.5 pack. it installed w/o any issues, but when i attempt to login to one of his sites from the w7 pc, one camera loads and the program freezes. not only that, his entire network freezes. even after i end the process of the multiview program, i dont get internet connection until i power cycle his modem/router from the ISP. a friends office is located next door to us with the same ISP and modem/router and he doesnt have any issues with dmmultiview (he also has a camera system he monitors, off site). any ideas? the 8.5 software appears to be win7 64 bit ready. i actually have it on my PC, i have a location of my own i am viewing and i dont have any issues. i tried viewing this clients two locations from my PC and i can connect w/o any issues. i am beginning to think it is related with hardware in his PC, but it is a fresh built PC with nothing but the OS. i realize that even fresh installs can have issues, i just want to make sure nobody tells me to reformat/clean out viruses, etc... thanks. EDIT- i forgot to include a pic i had.
