  1. Next question.. can you split a PoE signal into the screen and NVR? CAT5a or CAT6 for the distance required? No. Some cameras come with a video output along with the cat5. that would require 2 cables coming out of camera, cat5 and coxial. But the coaxial will probably only give you D1 resolution, not what you wanted. where is your NVR located? Can tv be used as monitor for NVR?
  2. Not positive, but capture may mean take a picture (a snapshot) of whats currently on the screen.
  3. get at least a 2mp 1080 (or better) camera and a 1080 HD TV.
  4. Probably wont hurt anything but its always best to shut down DVR properly. You do take some risk in damaging the hardware and software.

    New member looking for advise

The amount of choices out there is pretty intimidating. If I were going to buy an all in one system today, I'd look at something like this https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/4k-ultra-hd-ip-nvr-security-camera-system-with-8-ip-cameras/HDIP88BW-1-p Its a higher end lorex system, not the stuff found at walmart.

    remote viewing

Get the exact model if the DVR and call Dowson. There are numerous ways to remote view. From looking at their website it looks like they offer QR code scan, so that you dont have to open ports in the router.

Need security for farm with just electric

If you find a camera that uses an SD card, it should work fine without a network. The catch is you need to view the cameras settings through a network to set up things like motion detection and quality, etc. So yes you probably should get a router that you can connect a laptop to in order to view cameras settings.

    4k camera compatible with Q-See 8816 Nvr?

When I google Q See 8816 I get different specs on the NVR. Do you have an exact model number? Or a link from where you bought it? It will tell you what resolutions it is capable of and if you can do H.264 or H.265.

    Help in connecting remote connection

from the network that the DVR is on, go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ that is your actual IP address

    Help in connecting remote connection

From your home, you are using your public IP address correct? Not 192.168.1.192. That address will only work on the same network that DVR is on.

Geovision VD-122D advice needed for wiring

I would just buy a different Geovision camera that has no pigtails. I use Geovision EVD3100 3MP alot and it works great. The cat5 jack goes directly into the camera. Holes in walls only need to be big enough for cat5 cable to fit through. https://www.amazon.com/Geovision-GV-EVD3100-H-264-Super-Vandal/dp/B019S45A7Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487006758&sr=8-1&keywords=geovision+evd3100 You can use your current camera somewhere else where wiring isnt such an issue.

    Camera System Upgrades

Some cameras offer nightime color view. Never used one, but it sounds promising. https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/4k-ultra-hd-ip-nvr-security-camera-system-with-4-hd-cameras/4KHDIP822-1-p

    Camera System Upgrades

You already have a nice camera setup. I think the biggest fallacy of the camera craze is that cameras are the answer to crime. Yes cameras help immensly, but cameras only show what has already occured. Your stuff is already gone. Even if the police catch the person, your stuff may have already been broken, pawned, traded, lost, thrown away, etc. They may sit in jail but you still lose your stuff. And thats IF the police catch them. I use cameras mostly in a perfectly lit retail store. I get a great show of their face as they leave. But if no one can identify them, a face is pretty meaningless to police. Police need a name, address, or license plate. havent used 4k cameras yet, but that seems to be your next step if you want better video. Your lighting is already very good. I think 4K 8MP cameras require H.265, which means you'll need new software and NVR that is H.256 compatible.

Cheap but good analog cams? and source?

What DVR do you use? If its not TVI or AHD, getting a new analoge camera will probably give you the same picture as your old analoge camera.
  16. I'd look at something like this https://www.lorextechnology.com/fall-sale-save-ten-percent-site-wide/security-camera-system-with-2k-recording-12-cameras-and-nvr/LN10804-1612W-1-p

You are right that it can be very confusing and overwhelming because there are so many choices. If I were starting from scratch today, I'd get something like this https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/surveillance-system-with-16-cameras/LN10804-1616W-1-p
  18. tomcctv, I wasnt quite understanting what he was trying to do, but I get it now. you'll need to find out the public IP address that your cameras are on. From a computer on the network your cameras are on, go to http://www.whatismypublicip.com/ that will tell you your public IP address. You will also need to open up certain ports for each camera on the modem/router that your cameras are on. Then you tell your NVR at second location to look for that public IP address with that open port. For example, lets say your public IP is 12.345.67.89 and the port is 80, then you tell your NVR to look for camera 12.345.67.89:80. I think this is correct. You may need your manufacturer to help you with the exact details. I used GW Security once and it was ok. For DYI probably not a bad brand.

    Longest range?

motion sensing is what records the intruders. But thats a standard feature on cameras. I'm not aware of a camera that can accomplish what you want. If there is one, its probably super duper expensive. I'd try and use multiple cameras. One on driveway area near house, another zoomed in about 30X on driveway area midway from house (about 500 feet). Getting the next 300 feet is tough, especially at night. You might can use external IR for night vision. Maybe someone else more experienced can offer advice. I'm thinking this is going to be a very costly project. Might be cheaper to run conduit and wires to have cameras at point of use.

    Longest range?

Are you wanting to cover the entire 800 feet of driveway? Or have a camera on house cover the entrance 800 feet away?
  21. POE switch and NVR need to be on the same network (subset). So for example both would need to be on 192.168.1.X.

    4g internet

You'll need to provide your location. Does no good to recommend Verizon if Verizon is weak or not offered in your area.

New to CCTV - Some questions!

Most of what you want is pretty basic these days. POE, motion sensing, smart phone viewing, weatherproof. Audio is really the only premium feature you want. Just find cameras that do audio. You want 5 cameras, so get at least an 8 channel system, that way you can add 3 more cameras as you need them.
  24. Since you've already got coaxial cabling in place, I'd get the first system. The second system would require you to run cat5 cables. As far as seeing faces and plates, that all depends on distance and angle to target. It can be difficult during the day and almost impossible at night (unless you get a special plate camera). As you zoom, the picture will get less and less clear. You have to get a very high MP camera to be able to zoom with no loss of clarity.
  25. Dome camera. Typically the camera will use a special fastener that requires a special tool to unscrew it. However, if you have all these people dead set on destroying your stuff, there may not be much you can do. If its within reach, its not hard to take a bat, crow bar, spray paint, etc to the camera.
