    CCTV Test/Portable Monitors

Don't just google. Use the search on this forum for lots of useful information. I use a 5.6" test monitor for my final lens adjustment on the ladder. I've used everything from portable dvd players to 32" lcd tv. Not all IP cameras have a bnc test connection so out comes the laptop, tablet, smart phone... The nicer IP cameras have motorized lens, so adjustments are done by software. I usually test, adjust fov/focus and pre-aim the camera on the ground before I mount the camera.
  2. Axis has joined the growing list of manufacturers such as Bosch and Samsung who offer low light cameras that feature high frame rate. Axis has recently announced their new 720P 60fps frame rate box camera. http://www.axis.com/corporate/press/releases/viewstory.php?case_id=3163 Axis will offer 60fps frame rate in new encoders and finally dome cameras in 2014 with the introduction of the ARTPEC-5 chip. http://www.axis.com/corporate/press/releases/viewstory.php?case_id=3242 Bosch NBN-733V Shutter (1/30s to 1/15000s) http://resource.boschsecurity.com/documents/NBN_733_Data_sheet_enUS_9736863499.pdf Samsung SNB-5004 Shutter (2s to 1/12000s) https://www.samsung-security.com/SAMSUNG/upload/Product_Specifications/SNB-5004_Datasheet.pdf So many cameras to test...

    New IP Setup

The server used to run your vms should be dedicated to that task only. Sharing your cpu and hd is not recommended if you want a reliable and robust system.

    New IP Setup

You need to set a budget for the outdoor cameras and software first as prices vary greatly. What is your night time lighting like? Do you have motion activated lighting or other ambient lighting to help?
  7. New Axis Q1614 720P 50/60fps box cam specs, manuals, ordering part#s are up. http://www.axis.com/products/cam_q1614/index.htm http://www.axis.com/files/datasheet/AXIS_Q16_Network_Camera_Series_Datasheet.pdf Looks like shutter speed @720P 50/60fps is 1/43500s to 2s.

    Camera Advice

Facial ID under low light @ 50+ feet distance is difficult for most MP cameras. If you can add additional lighting near target or reduce your camera distance, you can make the task easier. Otherwise, look at increasing your budget alot...
  9. Most MP cameras look great in the day. The ultimate test for any MP camera is: 1. under LOW LIGHT conditions with MOVING objects (cars/people) 2. under BRIGHT LIGHT with MOVING objects (cars/people) Thieves/perps do not usually stand still..

    outdoor wireless infrared?

The IR leds and the camera itself draws quite a bit of current when in use, so a battery would not last too long. A wired solution is the most cost effective and gets the best image possible. A small outdoor rated Bullet CCTV camera with IR leds would be sufficient for your needs. This camera can be mounted to your tree and wired using pre-made (comes in 25', 50', 100' lengths) siamese cables (power&video) to your house/office/school. Don't forget to weather-proof the connectors using silicon tape or heat-shrink tubing. Also, screw camera to piece of wood first then strap wood to tree branch using cable ties. Once you have found a way to get the cabling inside (thru crack in window, door, etc), the camera must be powered using an approved +12v wall adapter and the video cable connected to the video input of a TV or monitor. Happy deer viewing...

    Camera Advice

If you want facial recognition in low light. You need to source a camera that works in low light first. Look at cameras with 1.3Mp or less. If you must have a bullet style camera with integrated IR leds, source a camera that has adaptive or smart leds to help reduce the glare/over exposure caused by the bright IR leds. Separate IR LED illuminators are still the best way to get the image you want.
  12. In general with cctv, you get what you pay for. In general with cctv lens, you definitely get what you pay for. That Arecont lens will be a little soft. If you want a sharper image for your 5mp camera, you will have to spend more.

    Security camera suggestions

The Bosch REG-X-816-XE LPR camera is a little bit above your budget but will meet your needs. http://products.boschsecurity.us/en/TAMS/products/bxp/SKU17317619312955182603-P1 A choking point is required to slow down to 50mph or less. The LPR camera should be mounted no more than 5 feet above the ground (lower the better), face the licence plate directly, and be around 20 feet away. You will also still require a colour overview camera to capture other details such as make, model etc.
  14. To capture the detail you require, a true macro lens is recommended. I use the Computar MLH-10X with any fixed box cam lying around on a daily basis to help remove splinters from my hands. It's manual with no IR but great image! http://computarganz.com/product_view.cfm?product_id=601
  15. If the computer monitor is the only light source, what is the diagonal size and the back-light type so we can gauge an approximate lighting level. Also, are the bars color or grey scale/bw? If you have a larger LED monitor than you may have sufficient backlighting to use a sensitive fixed color camera with macro lens. Raytec 950nm IR lamps are visible to the human eye. Bosch 950nm IR lamps are invisible to the human eye. Although mice are nocturnal, their eyes are worse than the human eye. So 850nm might be sufficient for your experiment if you prefer mono images.
  16. Low Voltage wiring such as Cat5e/6, twisted pairs, coaxial is permitted in non-metalic conduit such as pvc, abs for burial exterior applications. Make sure that you clean and sand all surfaces to be glued and use proper primer and solvent rated for your conduit. Proper cleaning and prep will ensure that your joints remain water tight. When backfilling the gravel and sand, take care not to place large stones that may damage your conduit when your do your final tamping. Also, go big with the conduit. I use min. 2" diameter conduit for most of my burial runs.
  17. Hacking a newer HD PTZ camera supported by your VMS software would be much more economical. You would save the cost of encoder and get pelco control for your zoom function. That Sony and encoder will be very costly!
  18. Mounting your cables to existing poles is not recommended if those poles are not yours. If the road is not too compacted beside your driveway, a narrow motorized trench digger can be rented at your local building center to dig a shallow trench for direct wire burial. Your long driveway will be quite a chore though. Don't forget to contact your local utilities to mark your buried gas/water lines first!
  19. Axis just announced their new Q1614 lightfinder 720P camera with 50/60fps frame rate. Should improve low light motion blur problems. http://www.axis.com/corporate/press/releases/viewstory.php?case_id=3163
