  1. The center pin contains the video signal and the shield is the ground/return. Your crimping tool should have a spot to crimp the center pin. Be patient and accurate with the stripping, and you will be rewarded with a nice compact connection...

    Wiring an IR illuminator

The power connector on those IR illuminators are standard 2.1mm DC Power Connectors with center pin positive 12 VDC. Do not connect to power source greater than 14VDC or you may damage your IR illuminator. The IR illuminator should be protected from polarity reversal. Get a multimeter if you don't have one!!!

    IR Illuminator

Cheap IR Illuminators use low specification IR Leds. Don't expect any long life or even a decent half life from cheap IR illuminators. Do expect to change out cheap IR illuminators often, so keep your ladder nearby... I prefer Bosch IR illuminators. Not cheap though...

Need advice on type of camera

Pelco manufactures NEMA 4X rated enclosures for use in hazardous environments. Can a approved sight glass/window be installed in the wall of the filling station?
  9. Some Axis cameras include both clear and smoked domes. Most IP cameras are not good in low light conditions, so a smoked dome would reduce overall sensitivity...

    External HD & DVR

Most commercial external hard drives contain regular hard drives that are not rated for continuous duty 247. Also, some external hard drives are not adequately ventilated for heat dissipation. USB Cabling Limitation (without repeaters) USB 2.0 cabling max = 5.0m (16.4 feet) USB 3.0 cabling max = 3.0m (9.8 feet)

  16. Your power supply may not be sufficient to power all your cameras when the IR leds turn on. Try unplugging your working cameras and power your suspect camera only.
  17. For exterior/outdoor cameras, ingress protection IP66 is recommended. Not a big fan of Panasonic cameras, good WDR, but overpriced and not reliable... Have you set a budget for this camera? What is the lighting conditions for the location of this eaves mounted camera? Will this camera be facing the sun most of the day? What is night-time lighting like? Do you have street lighting nearby, or motion activated lamps?
  18. Indoor dome cameras are not designed for external/outdoor use. External dome cameras usually have ingress protection (proper seals), fan/blower and heater assembly. Here is internal pic of IP66 rated Samsung SNV-5084.

    location of DVR

If you need to extend your dvr display output, some hdmi repeaters/extenders include IR remote extension as well. http://www.startech.com/AV/Extenders/HDMI/HDMI-over-Cat5-Cat6-Extender~ST121SHD30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G2179147

    location of DVR

Most attics are not conditioned spaces i.e. hot/humid in summer and cold in winter, so locating the dvr in the attic is not recommended. A hidden, well ventilated, and conditioned space is a better location for the dvr. Use a IR repeater/extender for the remote. http://www.homedepot.com/p/P3-International-Infrared-Repeater-and-Sensor-in-Black-P3-P8620/204511972?N=5yc1vZc652Z5qj http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=109&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011009 http://www.amazon.com/Nextronics-Infrared-Remote-Extender-Repeater/dp/B00C5PNW5S
