Elevator company charged customer $8000 (added on its own at mid-point.) for 2 cabins ThyssenKrupp Elevator want $20000 Elevator installation and repair..now that is a racket...that is where the real money is ...

The NVR doesnt care if its wired or wireless. It just needs an ip address. In general match the cameras to the NVR manufacturer.
-
Yes you can use a wireless camera with a wired NVR...but you are WAY better off paying someone to run the cable in the wall for you. Wireless is a waste of time. Stay away from acti...there are tons of great affordable options..look at hikvision and dahua...lots of threads on this.

Conned by Swann?
Boogieman replied to shaynealanoconnor's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Why do you jump to the conclusion that you were conned because you are missing a cd? Makes no sense to me. You were conned though by purchasing a 960h system in 2016. You should be looking at 1080p minimum. Even 720p would be a significant improvement. You need to return that unit and do some more research. -
Need help setting up a last minute CCTV system for my home
Boogieman replied to riley3245's topic in System Design
Do not buy the netgear battery operated cameras. They are JUNK and cannot be integrated with any other system. PAY someone to properly run ethernet outdoors. -
+1...could not have said it better myself.

No one called anyone silly. All that was said is that he is going about it in a "silly way" big difference. Are we all in third grade here? Everyone is looking for an excuse to be offended and complain to mods. They need to man up and take the proper advice that was given. Let's be honest here. Saying someone is approaching something in a "silly" manner is a passive aggressive way of inferring they are silly. We're not all in third grade but, I agree, someone still is. No that is not the case and others agree with me. Its only offensive if you are looking to take offense. To many super fragile folks in this day and age. Read his post again, and you will see a pompous member who "believes" a bunch of nonsense. Remember this is a person who could not be bothered to do this http://lmgtfy.com/?q=security+camera+invisible+ir or this http://lmgtfy.com/?q=security+camera+hide+ir the latter of which would yield this website in the first result, then has the gall to tell us he did "more than a quick google search"...Please. The fact that the user contacted the mods because he felt so offended speaks volumes. Maybe there should be a safe space on the net for folks like him...

4 Camera system options - NVR vs. PC vs. Standalone
Boogieman replied to syvman's topic in System Design
You dont want wireless for your cameras, particularly not for your NVR. Its going to drop out. -

You did not do a google search. Please dont lie here. If you did a basic search you would find your answer. Heck, its been discussed on this forum multiple times. "consultant" lol...

There is absolute no point in acting in an arrogant manner. Your entire response to my question was an arrogant "I believe" rant when you obviously have NEVER installed a camera in your life and thus know nothing about perimeter security. There is a reason why there almost no cctv cameras with 940nm IR..its weak and pointless in almost all cases. Dont get offended so quickly. This is not a college campus. Stop playing victim and act insulted when someone tells you your idea is silly. This is not an internet "safe space". The advice dispensed on this forum is free, you dont get to dictate how polite anyone has to be to you. You didnt even bother doing a quick google search on the subject, just want to get spoon fed a how to.
-
You are simply wrong and going about this in a silly way. Do you thing thieves dont operate during the day? Do you think they dont go by the property and scope it out first? Do you think you cant see a camera simply because there is no IR? The camera is still visible. You can mess around with external ir in 940 but you are wasting money time and effort.

Why do you want to hide it?

Daryl, do you honestly think that folks installing IP cameras in their homes have to worry about a tech savvy hacker tapping into their network by disconnecting a camera? if so you are an idiot. Your advice to use analog cameras in 2016 is simply wrong and foolish. The concern should be focused on securing the NVR from outside attacks. It sucks when people like you deliberately mislead folks and point them to inferior products. Now go put on your tinfoil helmet.

Network Cabling Questions For Outdoor IP Cameras
Boogieman replied to th3bloody9's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This is a dumb idea. Wifi is not a good solution for cameras. You have a misunderstand of IP cameras and POE. There is NO signal loss as long as the cable is 100 meters or less (many have gone much longer). If you have never installed cameras before its better to hold back improper advice like this. -
Any cameras with NO Cables to run for installation?
Boogieman replied to kokich's topic in Security Cameras
There are other VERY severe deficiencies with the arlo system aside from having to replace the batteries. First, they cannot display video on monitor 24/7 or for any length of time because the batteries would drain. Second, they dont get any pretrigger recording because the camera relies on the pir sensor to turn it on. You actually miss some recording. Third, hefty perpetual monthly fees to store any decent amount of recordings. Its cheaper to hire someone to pull wire and install a system in the long run. Forth, its wifi. The arlo should never be used. -
Stop making stuff up. Lorex sells rebranded dahua. They are not all plastic -even if they were, there is no reason to believe plastic is any worse than metal outdoors. Costco also has a lifetime return policy. Dont buy the dahua off newegg. At least not at 150. That is authorized distributor pricing not newegg third party seller pricing. Keeping doing more research.

Looking for advice on IP cameras recording to NAS
Boogieman replied to Simkill's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions

Connecting to the back is optional. Some NVR's only have a single lan port. With either type you connect the NVR to the lan and use a separate poe switch to power and transmit data to the NVR. This is basic IP camera knowledge that is why I suggest you spend more time learning about the cameras/technology before spending your money. -

You do not need a homerun connection to record to an NVR. That is the beauty of network cameras. Start reading and learning or you will end up buying junk. -

The ip systems at costco from lorex and swann are not junk. They are mostly lorex rebrands dahua and swann rebrands hikvision. With costco, if you EVER have a problem, you can return the entire system. -
