  1. Hikvision will not allow ftp upload of video....the HD video will use tons of bandwidth....if the user is concerned about theft of the NVR, the simplest solution is to hide a second backup NVR…you can record 24/7 to this NVR as additional backup.
  2. You dont need to separate anything out...its a network switch... It should plug directly into the NVR and work...if not, connect it to your router or any other switch on your network, it will certainly work (you will have to manually enter the IP address of the cameras in your NVR)... If your cameras are poe, use this for a clean install, http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1008P-100Mbps-8-Port-802-3af/dp/B003CFATT2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1446210654&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=poe+switch&psc=1
  3. Yes only two pairs are used if you are using a standard switch/poe switch which use mode A...if you are using a midspan injector many of those generally use mode B which will not leave unused pairs. If you have power at the shed, use a switch as suggested above, its the proper solution and cheap.

Help Needed CCTV for my Building

There is NO need to playback 16 in 1080p..the space on the screen is too small to see the difference. 100 dollars to you (thats probably one months salary for you) via paypal if you can explain why in the world I need 1080p x16 playback if im using a regular 24"-50" monitor/tv? Makes no sense. You keep saying that like its a good thing, its not. Do you undestand that when the image is small, like when a screen is divided into 16, you dont need full res? How is d1 any better? Its low RES ALL THE TIME AND YOU CANNOT ZOOM IN on D1. Last month you were ranting and raving that D1 is the same sensor as 720p. Make up your mind. My point was that this unit can playback all 16 channels at once via the substream. Then if you need more detail you can bring it full screen and zoom in. With D1 you CANNOT zoom in, it looks like crap. Listen to me very carefully, I could care less about your objections. I have already demonstrated that there is a difference between 720p and 3mp/4mp. You can rant and rave from china all day here, but one look at this video and everyone can see you have NO clue. You can rant and rave all the way from china, but we can see with our own eyes. The "problems" you listed to are non existent and completely fabricated. I dont think you understand what a crime is. There is NO perceptible increase in power consumption ...my dahua 3mp cameras draw UNDER 3w during the day. There is no extra heat (even if there was who cares). Monitor resolution is not improtant, you keep making this same amateur mistake over and over. You can benefit from 4mp even with a vga monitor. FYI here in the US everyone uses 1080p monitors...get with the times. There are no hardware compatibility issues. There are no reduced frames 1080 can be had at 30fps and 3/4mp at 20, which is WAY more than needed and WAY more than many analog junk systems can produce. Please stop making things up. Its is VERY obvious that you dont have an understanding of IP technology and security in general. Please stop spreading your nonsense. So I will say this again, if you cannot explain the youtube video and what I see with my own eyes every DAY, I have 720p, 1080p, 3mp and 4mp cameras, then you need to go learn a thing or two. Sunny, I will keep pointing out your lies until the mods ban you. This nonsense has gone too far. STOP recommending D1 for system upgrades, its malpractice.

Its not tough at all. First i think you have a basic misunderstanding of spot monitoring...this can be done with any NVR. As far as simultaneous playback, there are lots of NVR's that can do 16ch simultaneous playback, though I dont see the need for it. I have never seen anyone use that function. Remember this is for a building association..they will not be sitting there reviewing footage every day...this is to record in case an incident occurs...remember always look at the needs of the end user, this is a common rookie mistake. D1 and 960H should not be considered at all. Makes no sense. Funnyboy, I do not agree that any NVR or DVR could playback(simultaneous decompressing) 16 Ch X 1080P for spot monitoring. I would appreciate if you kindly provide the model that can do that. It is OK if you list up very expensive solutions. Tricks could be to decompress subtreams not main streams, I know. Why in the world would you need to simultaneously view 16ch of the main stream? Do you would need a movie theater screen to view all 16ch in 1080p and see the benefit vs the substream. Makes no sense to playback all channels in 1080p. Another amateur mistake on your part. The substream is D1, lol. So you can still view all channels AND also have 1080p video for DETAIL. So you have the best of both worlds. This can be done on inexpensive NVR's. Since you are from china, we have different opinions on what expensive is. For you 200 is expensive...so im not getting into that argument. Bottom line is D1 should never be used in 2015 NEVER! This cheap 250 dahua nvr can playback 16ch simultaneously. https://www.123securityproducts.com/ctw-nvr7216.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwwbyxBRCS74T049iEp0wSJACkO5v1wIyxWyEBRT3fGLpYjjq1LdnyXPnM0O1hLnX9GWPRUxoCl_Tw_wcB Sunnykim, I am glad I can help you understand NVR's and ip cameras systems. I know this is a new field for you as you have only used DVR's and low end analog cameras. Please ask any questions you may have, I will help you understand.

    No audio in recordings?

Try mp2l2 encoding.. If you werent impressed with blue iris, then you were not using it correctly. For 60 dollars its by far the best value in vms.

Setting up a home CCTV system in Jamiaca

are you going to have access to that pc when you are away? if not dont use it...use a standalone NVR... There are lots of threads discussing various options...go with IP, 1080 minimum...look at dahua or hikvision. best bang for your buck...are you going to purchase the cams in the US?
  15. Simplest way to do this is to buy a IP camera with sd card slot, this way you dont need any other equipment...What is you budget?
  16. The webserver does not allow you to make settings changes...it simply allows you to view live and recorded video...the developer is working on a full client interface. the solution is simple, just use teamviewer or any other free remote desktop application.

Hikvision and dahua make TVI and CVI hybrids and tribrids which will allow you to use your old cams as well as easily replace cameras with TVI or CVI cameras that are 1080p hd without running new cable. These units can also support ip (new cable will be needed)...

    Best HD IP security camera's?

What is your problem? He works for a chinese manufactuer that assembles low end analog dvr cards and D1 analog cameras...so any mention of hd makes him go crazy.
  19. The blue iris mobile app is 10 dollars not 15. It is far superior to zoneminder...60 dollars is nothing for a vms... The zoneminder app is 4 dollars if you want remote event viewing... I just installed 3 Hikvision IP cams and am building a rack server that will run Zoneminder. Although I'm open to running Windows on it and something like BlueIris, I feel much better if it runs Linux. Although $60 is pretty cheap for VMS, I've developed an expectation over time that software should be free. The nice thing about a PC-based DVR is it can do anything and be anything, unlike a off-the-shelf NVR/DVR. If you are willing to live with the limitations of zoneminder then its fine...

    Best HD IP security camera's?

You are making an incorrect assumption that more megapixels means its a better camera.Start reading the forum..the best camera depends on your needs. Boogieman, you took my words. Wooops I got wrong. You have to promote 4MP, not 5MP, Poorman. I dont think you understand the English language......a higher megapixel count is not always better however it depends on the application and depends on the BRAND and specific model. My point was that 5mp junk camera is not necessarily better than a 1080p camera from a reliable brand. A 1080p dahua/hikvision will ALWAYS have a higher pixel per inch count than a 720p camera(PPI). Stop denying it. It is FACT. But according to you, lets all go back to D1 low res because the sensors is EXACTLY the same as a 4mp camera. LOL NOT. We have youtube here. Sorry if your government in china banned youtube for you. Must suck. Proof is in the video. End of story! Busted! Sorry if china blocked the video for you...

    Best HD IP security camera's?

Ill do some more testing, only got them up and running Saturday. edit: just did a test, in 0 lux, full IR, little to no motion blur. this was just a test in my living room. Where the cameras will eventually be located, there is some ambient light during the darkest parts of the night, so I should be fine Indoors is a different ballgame because you have ir reflecting off walls so it will be ok..You will not have the same result outdoors with asphalt and grass absorbing the IR light...I assumed this was installed outdoors because most folks dont install bullets indoors in residential installs.

They want better resolution..why in the world would they use 4cif when they can get 1080p...they are ripping this guy off. Probably asking for more money for old low res technology... Sunny why cant your decide who I work for, hikvision, dahua? costco? newegg? Amazon? If I work for hikvsion why did i recommend a qsee system in my other post? BUSTED. OP can see for himself.

New system design thoughts - PC based NVR

I have never said 720p is junk. I said analog D1 is junk and that your company sells junk since they only make analog. Assessing image resolution quality is subjective? Did you not watch the video? with one you can read the numbers with the other your cannot..there is NOTHING subjective about it. Explain how the higher res cameras produce a better image? WE ARE NOT BLIND. Have you ever held a 1080p camera in your hand? I doubt it. My suggestion is to walk down the block and pick one up from hikvision. From many threads, I noticed you live on promoting 4MP cameras, these days. And I expect you would for 5MP as soon as your Master directs you to start. You bet. You need to read my posts more. I actually recommend 1080p and even 720p for low light...read my posts, you will learn a lot. Stop defecting the question. Why can we all see a difference in the youtube video? Why can I see a difference in my cams? Busted.

Those are no good. they mostly support low res analog. If you want to reuse your coax cable you have now...look TVI or CVI systems from hikvsion or dahua. They are cheap and easy to swap out. Tell the contractor that you want at a minimum 720p (not TVL) or 1080p Dont settle for low resolution DVR/cameras that they are offering you. Get more bids, talk to others..these guys are selling old gear. The second unit will allow HD ip cameras but you will have to replace the cables.
