Can I use a external hard drive instead of a NVR?
Boogieman replied to Tnek's topic in Computers/Networking
If you are happy with blue iris and your pc has enough power for the extra cameras you will be fine. Blue iris is much more flexible than a standalone NVR. -

Are you looking for pc software or mobile. Are you trying to view live video or recorded video? -
Stay away from the GW systems, they are subpar. Consider this http://www.costco.com/Lorex-8-Channel-IP-NVR-with-2TB-HDD%2c-4-1080p-Cameras-with-130'-Night-Vision.product.100153164.html or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881183059&cm_re=laview_1080p-_-81-183-059-_-Product Rebranded dahua and hikvision respectively...

I did not try to attack you, in any sense. It is your problem that you think you are being attacked. Sorry to say that I do not have any other languages to please you, except English. But I do ask you please. 1. Do not bash all other products that you never had experienced by yourself. If you have to, you make sure whys be explained. If not, you will not be respected. 2. Almost All the IP Cameras and NVRs are based on the same Chip/ same SDK, possibly same materials and components. When you put scarlet letters, or junk on those unbranded, you must bring on solid proof. If not, you will not be respected. Why ? Because we have to watch on "Monopoly Being Formed" all the time. We have to avoid any chances of being limited in our selection. 3. Please stop promoting 3 MPs /4MPs/5 Mps IP Cameras unless you got confirmation these cameras are not using the same image sensor as 1 MP (720P X30 FPS). That's cheating and over charging. That's horribly bad for industry developement. You may read: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47534 . Losing credit one time, costing 100 times to re-build. 4. Writing American is OK. But Writing English needs Logic which is borne with. Feeing sorry but I Do not blame you. Again stop attacking me. The escams had to be replaced, because one had a stuck ir filter and the others led burned out (probably because they were over driven)....THEY ARE JUNK. I will recommend what every I want. I will keep telling folks not to buy low resolution junk simply because you sell it and therefore recommend it. CAMERAS ARE NOT ALL THE SAME. That implication alone shows that you are lying and/or have NO idea how cameras work. WE are not blind. We have youtube we can see the difference between low resolution and high. You know nothing but keep faking about how you do. Anyone who says the image is the same on a 720p camera and 4mp camera is a liar and a fraud. Not surprised though.

Lock your patio door. Costs you nothing. If someone can open it to let your cat out then they can open it to come in and steal your property. Your hundred dollar budget does not give you a lot of options. As Boogieman pointed out something like Hikvision 2CD2132F-IS or Dahua IPC-HDBW4300E with a micro SD card for local recording will give you a capability within your budget. Ignore Sunnykim. He pedals obsolescent technology. Can anyone explain details to me ? So confused by you.Or do you have any good recommendations ? If the information confuses you, you need to spend more time learning and researching.

Good job you did report me to the moderator. You never beeeen logical or convincing or based on facts. You are not forgiven just because you did recommend some other makers'. Let me tell you one fact: Almost all IP cameras/NVRs in the world are based on the very same chip and the very same SDK, if you check on the board, breaking its boxes. IP cameras are using TI's DSP and NVRs are using HiSilicon's. Then what does factor into "Junk" from "Excellent"? Please let me know. You must know this fact already, just because you have been peddling Grey Market Products. Smart enough to be justified from Crimes. Why pay more if they are, in fact, of the same products? Again stop attacking me. I did not report you. Please learn to read and understand English. It appears that your understanding of the English language is on par with your understanding of IP cameras. The admin SENT US BOTH THE SAME MESSAGE. I dont need to be forgiven by anyone, particularity you. I simply pointed out that I recommend various camera manufacturers to PROVE that I have no skin in the game. I recommend what is BEST for the end user. There is more to the ip camera besides the chip. This is BASIC knowledge which you dont seem to have. The fact that you said this speaks VOLUMES about your lack of understanding of basic camera development and building. All cameras are not the same. Look at the videos, the images are different. The build quantity varies greatly. The lens quality vary greatly. I strongly advise that you go study up on cameras before posting this nonsense. It is obvious to anyone reading this that you have no clue. I further recommend that you enroll in some remedial English classes. Please respect the moderators request. Stop attacking me. I will offer my opinion and you will not stop me. Please follow forum rules or you will be booted.

those are junk cams and junk nvr... You dont need a gigabit switch for a few ip cameras... you can use a cheap 4 port 10/100 poe, or use a midspan injector.. When you call certain products "junk", you mean you did experience with those product. Or you are just lying? Or you just heard somebody is talking that way??? What are you founded on? Stop bashing others just because you are peddling HikVision Counterfeits. The moderator messaged you to stop with this nonsense. I will call junk, junk. Enough. Please see my posts, in the last week I have recommend dahua and qsee, laview...as well as hikvision. Finally, yes, if you must know, I have seen ESCAM installed. Its pure junk. Please follow the moderators instructions and dont attack my posts. Thank you very much.

Has IP gotten cheap enough to replace budget analog?
Boogieman replied to hubjeep's topic in General Digital Discussion
That's what i thought too Boogieman..What would be a good dome camera to go with this Qsee package? maybe something direct from china, I need for domes. I want to upgrade to HD as ive been on analog for years. Most dahua ip 2mp/3mp amd probably their new 4mp domes should work with that NVR... -

If the old computer fails you loose all your cameras, if the old hard drive fails you lose all your video...if the power supply to the cameras fails you loose all your cameras unless you have a separate supply to each camera. The old computer will be a power hog and cost more in the longrun...its a terrible idea. Why pay the electric company instead of simply buying a better kit to begin with.
-
Running an old inefficient pc 24/7 will cost you a fortune....100-300 per year depending on the system and your electric rates... Buy a single IP camera and record to sd card.

Is it out of date and worth fixing?
Boogieman replied to My05stang's topic in General Digital Discussion
Toss it in the trash...if you want to upgrade the system to tvi so that you can reuse your old cable you will need both new cameras and a tvi DVR...these are relatively cheap..look at hikvision TVI systems. You can get a 16ch tvi dvr for under 250 and the cameras are about 50-120 depending on design and features...if you dont mind running ethernet, which should be easy on an open space like a gas station, an ip system like this may suit your needs. http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel-IP-NVR-with-3TB-HDD%2c-12-3MP-Cameras-with-100'-Night-Vision.product.100220054.html -
A 4 camera system for 100? That is not going to happen...you will end up with a super low resolution system that will only give you problems...save your money.

That is quite tempting. What do you think about the Swann kit? http://www.costco.com//.product.100144944.html?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default I wish these systems had better reviews, the Swann looks decent. That kit is way overpriced...The 3mp are not the greatest when it comes to night vision...you need to disable wdr (or keep it low) and turn up the noise reduction.. -

Consider the Hikvision 2DE4582-AE 2MP This injector puts you just over budget..its POE+, which that camera requires (as opposed to standard poe) http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Gigabit-Ethernet-Injector-TPE-115GI/dp/B00BK4W8TQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441684833&sr=8-1&keywords=poe+plus+injector&pebp=1441684935014&perid=0S4Z20RGT8FK9Z6R5N99 -

One camera setup
Boogieman replied to daednoise's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That camera is varifocal, but is fixed at the time of install, there are cheaper options..how far from the mounting location is this activity occurring? You dont need NVR software to operate any camera with an sd card slot. I was hoping varifocal meant some kind of zoom, but google has corrected me, should have looked up that first. Thanks for the correction. The activity is happening about 40 to 50 feet away from the location I'll be mounting it from. Varifocal is basically a manual zoom at the time of install..the do have cameras with motorized varifocal that allows you to adjust it via the web browser/mobile app...If you want to id the folks at that distance you will need a 12mm lens...If you just want to see that something is going on, the even a 4mm will suffice. You can get a 12mm lens fixed camera, but it will be easier to re purpose the camera later if you get some sort of varifocal or ptz...what is your budget? -

Has IP gotten cheap enough to replace budget analog?
Boogieman replied to hubjeep's topic in General Digital Discussion
Thanks. Their videos say ONIF-S compatible. Does that mean that I can add cameras by other manufacturers? Adding a HD is no big deal. Do you see any reason to spend over twice the price of this system on the Lorex? My thoughts are to keep the price as low as possible when dealing with electronics since a couple years from now there will likely be a much better product out. I searched around for Costco's return policy on electronics... it's 90 days. I have heard it used to have no limit, which would probably scam them a lot. Dont rely on onvif from any manufacturer..its not a perfect standard...often features like motion detection dont play well with other brands..it varies. As far as costco, its a personal choice..the 90 day limit does not apply to security cameras..its very specific..it only applies to certain electronics likes, pc's, digital cameras, cell phones, etc..you can return the ip cameras anytime.
